Prince was sooo flipping talented. Great choice JJLovesPrince! His passing was such a huge loss. Thank goodness we have all of this great music to keep him close.❤Thanks so much Nick for this reaction!

There's a posthumous Prince demo album, "Piano & A Microphone 1983", and one of his most unique studio albums, "Parade" is a piano-forward work. Finally, one of his most revered B-side releases is him at piano on, "How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore?"

Another great reaction. Thank you so much! Prince’s father was a pianist, but most of the stories I have read or heard about Prince playing piano state that he taught himself how to play and wrote his first song on piano when he was 7. Next up? Prince playing drums!
I’m looking forward to your solo!💜💜💜

Wow its amazing how many instruments he played! Yes I will learn the original solo and then add my own improvisation. I recorded 2 solos but they ended up sounding nothing like purple rain. Thank you so much for the support. Prince fans are going nuts with your requests!!

Prince looking and playing like Mozart.
i'm devastated that a person with such vitality, charisma, presence and talent was cut down in their prime. On the other hand what a life and contribution he made in his lifetime.

The movie Amadeus came out a few years before this performance, and Prince loved that film. There's a line from Prince's song "Y Should Eye Do That When Eye Can Do This?" from the early 2000s that reminds me so much of the relationship between Mozart and Salieri. He says, "To most I'm known as a lover. To others, I'm just a pain. The latter's opinion usually forms when mediocrity reigns." Although it wasn't intended in this way, I think that line is a phenomenal summation of the Amadeus film.
As always, I love your Prince reactions, and I'm excited to see what JJ requests next! 💜

Yes mate, I saw this version live in Wembley Arena in 88. Aw gets me emotional. I actually have this on Vhs. Man I'm so boring I know. The cross is superb. Just a heads up...the Santana medley is something you must seek out, trust me. Nice one.

Just a natural talent! All self taught. Incredible. This whole concert video is so great. There is a very nice guitar sequence in a song called If I Had a Harem where he sits down and does some lively jazzy guitar runs. Just amazing!

Herbie Hancock, the jazz legend, defined Prince as an icon, a legend, courageous, playful, wise, brilliant, "a fist for the eyes and ears", "Prince eponymises the word music"... Miles run out of words when talked about Prince to the point he influenced at least a complete Mile's album and gave his son Prince's records to learn from them.

Prince was not classically trained. Lisa Coleman, the keyboard player in The Revolution from 1981 to 1986, was classically trained (for what it's worth). Prince did take piano in high school, but his father had one at home and he learned to play the theme from Batman (1960s TV series) on it as a kid. And I would never disrespect David Bowie, but Prince was the GOAT. No one in music history (including Mozart) ever excelled at everything (including, as you said, dancing) as Prince did. Thanks to you and JJ.

Yep. He would also sneak out and listen to his father play at the burlesque and strip clubs, when his dad would play piano. Mostly from outside since Prince Rogers Nelson "Skipper" was only a child.

Prince was a great keyboardist. When he was putting his first touring band together which included Dr fink, Bobby z and Dez, Prince sat at the keyboard when he auditioned them. His first album was keyboard heavy and the 1999 album was very synth and keyboard driven. His last tour before his passing featured him on vocals and piano only. I like the comparison to Bowie. They were both innovative and they never looked back musically, choosing rather to push forward. Bowie played the guitar, saxophone and some piano although not as great as Prince!

I took classical lessons starting at 8 for a decade. It taught me to read music but I forgot the basics. Scales and chord structure.. so, couldn't jam. Wish I learned by ear like I started.

Question about T-shirt size, is 2XT, 2XL Tall?

    • @davehess1019

the reason I ask is I bought 2XT T-Shirts from a company for business T-Shirts and they were extra-long but very tight on my shoulders and around my neck
