That's pretty cool. Very nice job. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge On. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Making. God bless.
Would look great either way, I was thinking wall hanging at first, but a plinth opens up a bunch of options from log to simple box or even a geometric shape, depending on the room it will grace. Great project.
You should be pretty "chuffed" about it. It looks great. it's interesting how the gaps just sort of fade into the background with all of the holes in the nuts. You really have to look for them. Looked like a fun project. Well done.
I think you’re nuts! LOL Great project. Unique, for sure. Would look cool backlit with color changeable LED lights and a white diffuser to equalize the brightness. Cheers! Whipple
There are people who pay an enormous amount of money for one of unique sculptures like you have made. Your talent and problem solving skills are outstanding please keep posting.
Yes! I totally agree. I was about to pay over $400 then I said wait a minute lol looked it up on you tube since I love making art so I will be trying to do this on my own, fingers crossed it comes out nice.
NICE! After watching n reading all the comments thru, I just get this idea. Could possibly be the lid for a chest! Or cask. Or perhaps better a wall mounted recessed cabinet, perhaps for sports and perhaps backlit behind the bottles. Ones mind can go in so many directions in creations here. Very nice! I've wanted to try something like that for ages, but never get around to it. I think one of the tricks would be to use different sizes of nuts in different areas so you have a bit of contrast to accentuate the lines.
I've been thinking for days how I could make a metal torso and especially the mold. A few hours ago it hit me, use a mannequin. I've had so many complicated thoughts about it so when I thought of the mannequin I felt so dumb for not having thought of it before. And here's your video, it's great to see how well it turned out. Great job!
My god the double entendre was strong in this video. But, i think wall mounted with subtle back lighting would look good (think some one else mentioned this which i upvoted.)
I’m very late for this party I’ve been trying to figure out how to make one of these for a while Very very cool Definitely wall hanger So since I was so late Could you explain to me how you made your torso form Thank You
I am surprised at how well the paper mache held up. I am doing the same right now with plaster strips and found that while it works well (and is a lot of fun!), it burns through the plaster in some areas, leaving actual holes. I am, however, using stick welding, maybe that generates just too much heat. I am currently waiting for a concrete form to cure that I made on top of a layer of plaster, I'll see how that works. I want to keep the form reusable, but if your paper mache holds up this well, I might switch to using that
@@garyhuston. I recently watched a video where the welder turned the frequency up to 200, he was working on a car engine block. It penetrates fast without the heat removing the temper from the surrounding area, it might work for you with the paper mache on your next project. Worth a try on a test piece.
After making the form, I used automotive fiberglass, with a few layers of tin foil on the inside. It’s a bit more robust than paper, and holds the weight of the nuts or washers a little better. It does have its messed drawbacks but it’s re-usable! Edit: I also try to use stainless bits, as it then needs no special finishes. Some raw steel stuff I actually had a friend who works at an auto body place clear coat it.
That is a wonderful project. and result! I am trying to learn metal sculpture. Where did you attach the ground clamp? I assume the table frame and top are all metal the arc is sparked that way even through the mold? Thanks for your reply.
@@garyhuston Thanks for replying! I have two Mannequins just for the purpose of making a metal version of them. I just wasn't sure what to use for the mold.
Been wanting to do that for years bought plaster of paris bandage to use on the wife so it was an accurate model but she wont let me display it if i do and i cant find a mannequin.... whats the postage on that one Gary ? :-) , o also sold my mig welder bit of a problem lol
@@garyhuston the uv radation that come off the arc of the weld are the same or even more harmful than the sun's and can cause severe burns (been told its worse than sunburn) and with exposure over a long period can cause skin cancer, its just best to be avoided at all possible 😇
@@irishbaytree6981 I’ve been doing this for over 40 years, I’ve had radiation burns that make your skin fall off, and I really don’t care about skin cancer so why would you?
yes mig would be the easiest and arc/stick welding would be fine, its just playing about with power settings and type of electrode you are using and jobs a good un.@@Bmanfresh
Wall hung with some nice subtle lighting 😉 👍🏴
There were tons of opportunities for " that's what she said" in this video. But I'll behave. Awesome piece Gary. Thanks again
Really cool. Reminded me of your horse head project. I'll say wall hanger but either way would be awesome. Great project. Beautiful lady. Thanks Gary

look great with an orange light inside it
Paper Mache was a great idea. Maybe a couple coats of High heat BBQ paint would help prevent the paper from catching fire.

I used a plaster of Paris mold that was thicker, fireproof and can be reused.
Looks awesome. Wall hanging would be best i think
Looks awesome Gary.
This was one of your videos where I was thinking …”Now what is he doing?!?” Beautiful and so enjoyable and to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing! I have always wanted to attempt this and you made it look fun!
The opening line is fucking hilarious "I've stolen a mannequin from my mother's garden...she's dead, so she'll never know!" Had me howling at 4am 😂
It turned out great Gary, I think it would look amazing hanging on a wall.

I love it! Make a dozen.
Lovely piece and I would say plinth as against a wall you won't get the light playing through it or be able to see the inside to see how it was done
I`ve recently done one with washers, probably going to put 2 or 3 tealight holders behind it
That's nuts!! Well done! inspiring! I would like to see it fully formed, as in 'her' back done the same fashion as well. on a plinth.

It took me a little while to figure it out, a plaster cast rather than papier-mâché might work better.
@@garyhuston absolutely, I couldn't believe your papier mache survived. I don't know how you did that :D
Another winner Gary … Great project .

That looks really good and would look good mounted either way!
Well done and such a cool idea.
Awesome video great work thank you Gary
AMAZING!!!!!! 😍😍😍😍I love it 🥰🥰🥰🥰Thank you I am going to try it.
I have a question can I do the welding on a soft plastic one?
I've always wondered how these were made, you've done a great job there - Personally I would wall mount it.

Nice Job. Oak plinth.
... great job, mate.
I bet there are 1,000's of young models out there, volunteering to get sculptured... 😁
Pretty cool!
Create a plaster casting of the bust and then you can weld with zero chance of fire.
I think you did a great job!
Thank you!
Lol 😂 u made me laugh when u said you don’t want the paper burning too early lol 😂

Could you explain to me how you made your torso form

I thought I explained in the video but can’t remember. Basically I just used papier-mâché over a fibreglass torso then used the inside of the mould..

Mine wouldn’t have stood up to stick welding, way hotter than TIG. Mine only lasted the one piece.

Think it would look great hanging up, if you did I washers you’d have a lot more air gaps. Perhaps just drop down one size in nuts

make a stand so that it will set on a shelf or table.

I'm late to the party here, just wondering how heavy it is once it is finished?
Not that heavy. I guess about 8kg

Hiya mate wanting to make this but will I get away with soldering this?thanks
Unusual. How did you think that up?
I saw one years ago on Pinterest.
I have been thinking of doing something similar just can’t find the right model the wife said no🤨
i want it
It will be for sale when it's finished!

How many bolts have you used for this ?
no bolts but about 1300 nuts!

It has been clear coated.

@@irishbaytree6981 how does it affect YOU.
Hi, what do you specifically call that kind of welding machine or tool? Thank you so much!
Hi, it’s called a TIG welder. Tungsten-inert-gas. It uses a tungsten tip shielded by an inert gas, in this case Argon
How does this work without using a filler rod?
@@nikok1444 its called fusion welding, just melting metal to metal but the joints need to be super tight for a good weld.

I couldn't do that without going nuts. Sorry. But looking at all those nuts while assembling .... No.
Were you using carbon steel nuts?
No, just normal steel nuts. No point using anything special!
Thanks Gary, I know to do plain nuts but was wondering what you used. Nice work.
