There is a mentronome or his foot keeping time in the 63 version and it makes such a difference in his performance compared to this so-so version. This sounds like he is trying to remember the tune. The 63 version has a tempo that is coaxing his performance to grow and grow. I've been listening to that one since the early 70s when the bootlegs were floating around. The extra instruments don't add to this later version. Just singing it solo makes it almost magical.

I thought he wrote it for Judy Collins and nico just covered it the year after because she wanted to.

This is all over the place and not nearly as and flowing and lovely as the Fairport COnvention version, but it has the raw awkwardness of a revival meeting

This is what happens with Bob songs. There are people that don't like him, and I can understand it, it's ok. But if you really like him he goes deep, so deep into your soul, beyond any possible imagination. That's how I like Bob Dylan music.
