In my experience, it depends on what your role is. If you are a damage dealer, but want to avoid aggro from bosses, sniper rifle is good. A mini gun is also good as it deals continous damage, but it builds aggro very fast, making you the target. The Grenade Launcher is the least preferred heavy weapon since it is specifically designed to wipe out mobs. If your on the Support role, Biotic rifle is best. This is just my observations so far.

You can earn more expertise points to use for upgrading expert skills the more you invest your regular talent points into other skills in the Talents page (the one with the hand grenade and turrets and passive skills) On that page you should be able to see your "talent" level and an orange bar on the top right hand corner. let me know if theres any problems ^^
