"Wau Bulan" Traditional Malaysian, arr. Tracy Wong • Strathmore Children's Chorus

Sung by SCC Preparatory Chorus with soloist Annabelle. Translated "It’s fine leading the way," this describes the beauty of the Malaysian traditional kite (wau) with the rounded bottom shaped like a half moon (bulan) as it flies high up in the sky. It is in the style of Dikir Barat (traditional chant), which is typically performed at competitions in Malaysia. Dr. Wong is originally from Malaysia and developed her love of music singing in children’s choirs there. She came to Canada to pursue her Masters and Doctoral degrees in music and is presently Assistant Professor of Choral Studies at Western University in Ontario, Canada.
SCC provides a pre-professional choral experience to students ages 7-18, from diverse backgrounds. Founded by Artistic Director Emeritus Christopher G. Guerra and led by Artistic Director Michael Wu, five performing ensembles promote self-expression in singers, celebrate the diverse musical traditions of our residents, and engage talented youth in joy-filled and uplifting music-making.
