    I have a 17 month old Shiloh Shepherd dog, and I just love her! She's an amazing family dog, and so, so smart!! She's also incredibly beautiful, and gets compliments wherever we go! She's a black girl with tan bars behind her ears, under her elbows and along her bum, and a white spot on her chest.

    A very interesting video!
    I believe, I’ve just adopted a 20 month old male Shiloh Shepherd. I’ve had German Shepherd Dogs most of my life. He was advertised as a GSD needing rehoming, and he certainly looks like one to most people, but I knew he was different. I looked up several diff types & I’m pretty certain he’s at least most, if not all Shiloh. He has the long silky coat, & not much of an undercoat, if any that I can detect. I’m told this can sometimes be the case w/ Shilohs. He’s stunning, w/ a huge plush tail. He’s mainly red & black, tall, straight backed, large bones, what appears to me to be a heavier jaw & teeth a bit larger.. or more substantial perhaps than the typical GSD? He also has the wider, shorter-toed front paws they look a bit more like baseball catcher mitts, whereas GSDs tend to have the skinnier, longer toes.. I’m assuming again, that this type of paw better supports & balances the larger bone structure. He’s not anywhere close to having the high energy of my past GSDs. He’s pretty mellow by comparison, which is fine as I’m a bit more mellow myself in my older age than I used to be. He wants to please very much, & is a love monster. Stubborn, but very bright. I use positive reinforcement & consistency when I train my dogs. When he sees something unfamiliar, I’ve observed him stand very quietly, & just watch… not moving a muscle or making a sound. Its like he’s in “stealth mode.” It’s then that he very much reminds me of a wolf. He has that look about him.
    He’s playful, & truly a sweetheart. Happily, he has already bonded to my brother’s 17 lb chill little dog.
    My unofficial Shiloh is scheduled to be neutered in a month. He has no papers & I wouldn’t consider breeding him, thereby risking the healthier bloodlines Tina Barber worked so hard to create.
    I’m going to have a battery of genetic tests done as well to discover exactly what he is, & if he’s predisposed genetically to any diseases. Then I’ll know in advance & it’ll help me be a better Shiloh Shepherd guardian. I’ve had him for 10 days now, & he’s become quite bonded to me & my older brother (lives on the same street as me). He a giant love monster actually. Loves to snuggle. Keenly aware of his surroundings, & alert to any unusual sounds. Already being protective of his new home. He’s 88 lbs now, 25” in height at the withers, & appears to have a bit more growing to do. I’d guess a couple more inches at most in height, & a bit more filling out to do, maybe reaching 110 lbs at most, by the time he reaches 3 yrs of age.
    He’s been a delightful bunch of surprises as I see the differences in his behaviors compared to typical GSDs.. he’s quite the comedian, likes to nibble on my arm like a 🌽, with a very gentle mouth. I’m leash training him now. When I got him, he knew how to sit, & was potty trained. That’s it. So he’s learning manners too bc jumping on people or kids in excitement is potentially dangerous. He’s a big gorgeous goofball that wants lots of reassurance. I’m happy to give it. He’s adjusting very quickly. The other night I jumped, bc he howled in his sleep😂. That was a new experience for me. Woke himself up, lol. He doesn’t gulp his food down quickly either, which makes bloat much less likely. I think I got very lucky to be able to adopt him. I recently lost my little female GSD 3 weeks shy of her 13th birthday. It crushed me. I wasn’t expecting this big love bunny, but I’m very glad we’ve come to be together.

      From what you said, it really sounds like a Shiloh. Make sure, that the genetic test you will make include Shiloh Shepherds, not all of them recognize them. And no matter what breed it is, you are great for adopting!

      @@OdditiesOffcial We got her from Animals Rule Rescue in Long Beach when she was about one year old (she’s 5.5 today). Her story: She was found wandering the streets of San Pedro, CA and had really bad hip dysplasia. She had bilateral hip surgery, then they rehabilitated her before putting her up for adoption.
      She’s about 65 lbs and the family loves her very much. She’s super smart and always aims to please!

    We have a black, plush Shiloh and she is absolutely stunning. We were not told about wearing a heart monitor by the breeder. 😳

  • @jamesbono771
    @jamesbono771 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Our Shiloh grew out of his heart issue but he will not be a breed forward dog. They are very strict on breeding issues out of the bloodlines. Ours is also a bit bigger then most as his mother was massive at nearly 120lbs. As far as some of the facts - Its like having a giant cat and they are very affectionate. The video outlines everything you need to know. Ours swims and is heat tolerant. He's good around most dogs but has some issues with one of our pyrs and our regular GSD. They are very easy to train but their attention span can be limited so plan accordingly. While his father can grab a frisbee , ours is clumsily so its a mixed bag on balls and chasing and catching. They're great dogs and we expect to get another one soon.

    • @Nil-tz6gy
      @Nil-tz6gy 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those wolfdogs ten to have 20-25% wolf, so it would be easy enough to breed out the wolf dna -
      Those wolfdogs would be from the original german shepherd lines, which I assume is why they used them and only used pups with low wolf percentage to create the new breed
