How much do you need to pay for rent in Buenos Aires, Argentina?

  • Hello everyone!
    This video is definitely longer than I expected it to be, but it's one topic that I've gotten many questions about, so I hope you find it helpful at least!
    Rent in any country can be one of the most important things that people take into account when moving or visiting, so I wanted to give a good perspective on the subject as someone who has actually been living here both working directly in Argentina and for foreign companies.
    Hope you enjoy!

    Thank you for this. For someone like me considering to relocate to BA, this kind of insider information is golden. Especially because Argentina seems to be a place of increasingly great interest to many in a time when Europe and the USA seem less and less apealing. Thnx again ;)

      If Putin gets trigger happy, based on the declassified cold war maps, the only untouched areas on the planet will be the southern half of South America, southern Africa, and a few select remote Pacific Islands.

    Do you think having A/C or heating in an apartment are needed? Also what are you thoughts about finding something on Airbnb and then seeing if the owner will let you rent off airbnb for cash? How much of a discount (roughly) do you think you could get doing that. Also do you think I could find an apartment off of Airbnb for 8-9 months and how would I do that being a foreigner?

  • @robertsmith2464
    @robertsmith2464 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @happytobemyself9100
    @happytobemyself9100 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That's a very informative video with detailed information. I'd add that there are way better apts than these. HOWEVER, because owners don't agree with having the 3 year long contracts and therefore remove their properties from the market and a lot of new apt are devoted to short term rentals, what happens is that these factors put a bigger strain to the apt shortage and thus you end up with these crappy apts.

    • @sabrinahuyke

      @@sabrinahuyke Yeah, the former worry about rents not keeping up with inflation (you can only raise once a year), the latter prefer the dollars or higher rates they can get from tourists. The government was toying with the idea of passing a law that prohibits having empty apts and push owners to put them up for rent. An even less popular solution.... smh

    In a nice place in Capital…I would need a 1 br for at least 600 USD per month, furnished and all included. With a remote USD salary, this would be super affordable. However, I also understand the displacement and gentrification this causes, and I’m a permanent Argie resident (but with a USD remote salary). Conflicted emotions here 😢.

    Awesome video. Proximity to subways does not guarantee a good neighborhood.
    - Blue Hill Ave, Dorcestor neighborhood of Boston
    - 63rd St, Englewood section of Chicago
    - Westchester Ave, Central Bronx in New York
    - Kensington Ave, Kensington in Northeast Philadelphia (this one is really THAT bad)
    All of these I have seen personally. My critical concern, again personally, is sure rents might be 400-700, but how difficult is it to earn ...say... 1800 a month there?

    Like in most countries, renting through airbnb is still very good. Other than that cheapest things in Argentina are public transportation, internet and personal services such as hair, nails, massage, some medications and hospital procedures. Food is all bread based, menu choices very limited, taste average and prices a dollar less than US for half portion. Side options always mash or french fries. No sauces :(

BUT it's true that sizes don't compare at all to sizes in The US.

      Hey there! So, a lot of people speak English here, as long as you have the littlest base of Spanish, I think you can manage well enough, body language helps a lot! Haha. There are also a lot of billingual schools so the girls will have lots of options that will help them learn the language as well but still feel like they can make friends. I personally love BA because of all of the things it has to offer me as a young person, I get to have my friends relatively close and we can do many different activities. Rent is most important for a 'favorable' budget ! -- $160 - $240 - $320 > would have me expecting not to pay more than about $200 or so for a nice studio - & - be happy there ! --?-- Fully furnished of course. -- Close by transportation good cheap food and shopping ? --- Argentina is '''supposed''' to be cheap (?) remember ? --- Not so sure it really is ??? --- Your rent is not so bad for 2 br.'s ?

    • @sabrinahuyke
      @sabrinahuyke  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Frank! Thank you for your comment!
      So you might be able to find some fully furnished options for along that budget, but in general terms furnished apartments are more expensive. Rent in general is a complicated subject, you might find some options that are ridiculously cheap and you might find some others that are way too expensive. It really depends on the arrangement that you are able to find.
      After living here for almost 6 years and having visited other countries, I do believe that Argentina is on the cheaper side when it comes to the cost of living and the type of life you can afford. But that always depends on your expectations! I hope this helps and that you enjoy the content! 😄

      @@sabrinahuyke Thank you for the response. -- $5000 for a visa so Argentina priced themselves out of my consideration given the expense of also getting there from the US ! -- Looks like either Cuenca Ecuador or Bucaramanga Colombia at this point. Both are cheap closer to the US and have good healthcare. Many more US expats and English speakers in Cuenca. A little cheaper and easier to get to Bucaramanga. > Buenos suerte.

      Hey Michael! I'm sorry the video wasn't valuable for you, I really do try to make them informative and helpful. How could I have made it better for you? My idea was to give perspective on what could be considered cheap or expensive taking different things into account, even if prices can be found online, without any context of the city, people might not know if they are getting a good deal or not, but I would love to hear how you think I could have improved the video Thank you!

      Hey Christopher! I'm sure it's rather easy, there are some websites that actually post bedrooms up for rent in shared apartments, and if there aren't you can probably post a bedroom in a shared apartment and people will contact you!

Residents have essentially the same rights as Argentine nationals, except maybe for voting and even then, as a permanent resident you can vote in some elections!
