It's jealousy against good leaders that kill Africa. Mbeki is by far an intellectual who speaks educational paradigms that constitutes our ideal livelihood, always wishing to see him alongside Motsoaledi.

Don't argue with a person who refuse to accept your informed based assessment.
When TM was informed about the decision of ANC to recall him, infact when Mr Mantashe delivered that letter to recall him from office, he took his jacket from the hanger and leave.
The purse of the government was in good state. He knew how to generate funds for government projects.

Mbheki was removed bcs he was not too political.. But a leader.. A leader is likely to be hated by politicians... Like Mandela all South African politicians hate Mandela bcs he was not too political although he was operating in the political space.. Today Julius Malema hate Mandela with pasion.. Hate mbheki with pasion.. He's not alone even in the ANC they hate them with pasion.. He is a true leader.. Nothing more.. And in Africa we are not realy interested in honoring leaders but politicians..now we act as surprised Whn they loot the state intities..

He is talking about radical transformation of education, addressing the challenge of creating graduates with competences suitable for the 4th IR. The existing 'plans' are not plans but mere visions or wish lists because lack of real know how about education, and understanding of change management. Crises provide too many distractions. Now universities are just empty credentialing machines.

He should be ashamed of his ignorance. White kids, since 1994 have excelled in ICT and that because they had a good grounding. Because he wasn't better prepared as he says he wasnt, black kids became a list generation. They did away with mathematics and science. We have very few black scientists, engineers, biochemists, agriculturalists etc. All because of this man and his OBE education model. 30 years later and black people live in penury gathering and selling whatever they can to survive.

Its a tragedy that people wanted Zuma because they identified with how undignified and uneducated he was. People felt comfortable with a corrupt, dumb leader. They hated this man because he was like a real elder with wisdom and dignity. He's honest about not knowing things - now that's important - he makes the point that if you don't know about something, then you don't know that you don't know. Now we have people in this country who don't know that they don't know and they are our leaders and they work amongst us so we are doomed. The only solution is educating people and sharing skills. He did answer the question if you listen carefully. He's saying don't ask the people who don't know to make decisions on things that require specialized knowledge - that we should ask people who do know to advise and share their skills.

The last time the SA economy grew by 5% was during the Mbeki & Mandela runs. We have never reached 3% ever since he stepped down. I don't understand how they thought replacing an educated man with someone who never made it past grade 4 was a good idea. Look at where South Africa is now. We would be a different country today if all of that never happened.

I can't even begin to share my notes with you it's a lot, however take this with you, president said "the problem of unemployment needs to be addressed by correcting the education system". "If you don't know, what is it that you don't know, you cannot bring up any solution"... He further suggested what needs to be done.

@@bongiwematha5312 thank you for your interesting comment . I'm also taking something home from you . This one : "it is what it is" !
There are many different kinds of audience .
A political audience is a gathering of like minded people who share the same party or political ideas . At such a gathering the speaker must communicate his thoughts quickly by stating his sympathies or loyalties and by explaining his ideas and how those ideas could help the gathering .Examples are political rallies and party delegates conferences .
Another type of audience are religious congregations . People of the same faith assemble and ask a speaker to address them . A topic is selected and the speaker is asked to deliver a message . The speaker must stick to the topic , and he must take the religious worldview or morals , educational background and age group as well as other factors into account in his speech . And he must deliver his message and make it comprehensive , concise and compact .
Then there is the student or learner type of audience . This type of audience is usually made up of school children , college or university students and post graduate students . This audience is usually assembled to learn something they don't know . And the speaker is usually a teacher , lecturer or professor . Here the speaker is expected to transfer information or knowledge that he has mastered to the audience in line with an agreed topic . And topic may be how to solve 4th degree quadratic equations or how to conjugate irregular French verbs . Whatever the topic the teacher must try to hit the nail on the head .
There is the expert or the intellectual audience . With this kind of audience you're dealing with scholars , researchers , thinkers , scientists , and well educated people . A speaker does not really need to teach this group of people anything , as there is nothing they cannot easily learn on their own . What a speaker usually does in such a place is to share personal or professional experiences and insights . But even this sharing must be done in accordance with the agreed topic . Examples are seminars and workshops .
Then there is the market audience . Here the speaker is usually a seller who is trying to sell something to potential buyers . Once again no beating about the bush : say what it is that you're selling , state the price , and how the item might benefit a buyer.
Finally , but not the least , we have the entertainment audience . Here the speaker is trying to make people happy by , for instance , doing magical displays , singing a song , reciting poetry , or performing stand up comedy .
In all these and countless other types of audience it is necessary to pick up the nail , show it to everyone in the audience , pick up a hammer and hit the nail on the head , in full view of everybody . If you don't hit the nail at the beginning you must do so in the middle or at the end of your speech . No dodging , no avoiding , no hiding .
Humans are not telepathic which is why human language was invented. It's also why conferences , meetings and gatherings are held and speakers invited to address them . So if a speaker goes to a gathering and speak in parables on the topic "The problem with the educational problem in S.Africa" , without mentioning any problem in particular , I guess I found myself watching the wrong video .

There is the main problem he highlighted, the not knowing. My only issue with his statement is that it is guided by his era, making an error of erasing the progress made.
There has been progress, but what is always lacking is the political will and sense of urgency.

  • @AlbertSchram

He is not entirely right about his role as Chancellor. Indeed, a Chancellor has no executive responsibilities, and the only thing he needs to do once a year is to hand out the degrees. He can not, however, convene a council meeting by himself whenever he wants, without agreeing with the Vice Chancellor. That would be too disruptive.
