    I'm a current student going to school for associates of science in dental technology. We get request from dental labs seeking someone from our program who is about to graduate and willing to work full time and learn, ALL THE TIME. Dont believe when people say digital technology is replacing technicians, its only a tool. Its replacing those who only know how to do one thing and one thing only. My suggestion learn dental anatomy as much as you can as well as occlusion theory, focus on your area of expertise, also learn CAD/CAM.
    As for money depends on your skill and location. I've been working at an orthodontics lab, amazing lab, amazing people. Pay starts 13 during intern about to get a raise once I go full time. But I'm gonna head back into the dental realm at a lab I am told, from another one of my classmates, is an amazing lab with amazing people as well. Like I said depends on location, one of last years graduates of the program just got a job starting at 17, another person doing dentures but because she has experience she is making 22 an hour at a 2 person dental lab.

    DO NOT GO TO SCHOOL TO BECOME A DENTAL TECHNICIAN! Low pay if you work for a lab and chances are you'll have to sue your dental accounts to get paid if you own the lab. Recent survey showed dental technicians are in the bottom 7% of wage earners. Survey also showed people who stand on street corners with a sign make more money. In other words, I went to school to learn a profession that earns less than a bum on a street corner with a cardboard sign.

      In life you get what you put into it..You dont come out if school, making 50.00 per hour, you have to work your up until you gain experience..js..but i guess panhandling may requre less discipline, make your own hours and not even have to train or pay taxes..Keep up positive vibe👍

      @@jessesanchez9893 I didn't go to school thinking I was going to make $50.00 an hour when I walked out but I also didn't go to school thinking I was still going to be making minimum wage after two years when people with no more than 6 months of on the job training and limited skills was making more money.

    • @natlexus
      @natlexus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not sure about this all the lab technicians I know make between $30 and $45 an hour. Depending on where you work and state you live, you get paid $17 for the training program but once you finish they bump you up to at least $22-25 as a beginner. I'm sorry it didn't work out too well for "YOU" but it's not like that for all. I say search around and like the last person said you get what you put in. Sounds like they're looking for people with school training. Hope it works out for you.

    • @davidlaville6424
      @davidlaville6424 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@natlexus If this was true than why does so many technicians leave the profession in search of better pay? Right now qualified technicians are in demand because they can't be found and if the pay was $30 to $45 an hour the profession would be saturated with them.

    • @natlexus
      @natlexus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidlaville6424 True everyone have their reasons for switching professions such as feeling burnt out, however again it does depend what state you live in. I hope all works out for you.

    You don't need an education, but if you must ADA accredited is the way to go. After graduating your eligible to become RG and take only 2 CDT exams. Its your fast track there and you learn the full process as well as proper techniques. If you dont get your associates you have to have at least 5 years of lab experience, to be eligible to take all 3 CDT exams (comprehensive, specialty, and practical).

    and its so much more work for me rn, ig it's different at other places+she looks like she gets work from a singular dentist (which is not that uncommon btw). nonetheless i like the job so far, lots of cleaning for me though haha

    Dental Technician, one of the worst 'careers' there is (certainly in the UK!). Boring, very poor wages, treat like shit. Any skill being eroded by technology (CAD/CAM etc) and lab managers love cheap immigrant labour, or 'apprentices' they can make work for below minimum wages. Most galling is when the lab owner swans around his 'empire' every blue moon having arrived in a Bentley or the latest Tesla whilst you are forced to work for nothing !
