Europe is used to getting non-liquified natural gas via pipeline. US LNG is liquid, and requires ports and de-compression stations to cope with tanker compressed gas. However, unloading stations are being rapidly being constructed - the issue is with landlocked European countries without seaports.
Mostly a problem for Germany as its economy is totally reliant on manufacturing fueled by cheap Russian gas. Not to say it doesn't affect other landlocked countries, but Germany's economy is the most beholden to n-LNG.
The main problem with a trans Atlantic pipeline is the central rift, which is very volcanic in nature (and is pushing the Atlantic a few cm per year wider). It could be possible but flexible very strong pipes would have to be used over the rift. Depth is also a big issue.
Ok guys , in your comparative analysis you're constantly mixing up LNG and natural gas. Liquified Natural gas is a value added product to natural gas as it goes through additional process for better storage and transportation. LNG can be transported by sea, as opposed to pipeline delivered Russian natural gas. So you gotta compare apples to apples.
We need to differentiate between military and humanitarian aid. The military aid, through the defense dept. has largely already been allocated. It is the humanitarian aid through USAID and the state dept. that has been paused. This aid is also vitally important for Ukraine. Hopefully, the EU can pick up the slack in the meantime.
Yeah, China declared a few years ago that it is an Arctic nation, that international law must acknowledge it as done, nonnegotiable fact. Well they're not, physically, so that's a momentous claim. More of Siberia than historical, perhaps? It's no secret that they would retake Northern Manchuria, including Vladivostok, so why not everything east of the railroad bottleneck? Russia couldn't do anything about it. I've considered it a clue why China encourages the war in Ukraine, claims to be best friends with Putin. Russia sends Siberians to die, destabilizes. China steps in saying, "Oh, let me help you with that. We'll be taking our tax, first, of course." Meanwhile, it tests the mettle of and saps the resources of other international powers siding with Ukraine that would also side with Taiwan. I suspect China granted permission, per se, for North Korea to be training troops in real war; because if they go for Taiwan and anyone tries to come to their rescue, letting loose North Korea to pursue its own reunification would guarantee the rest of the world is stretched too thin. China plans long term, won't be doing all this immediately, but getting closer. They'd prefer to appear too big of a challenge to bother, in order to come as close as possible to a peaceful grab for everything they claim to be historical China. Taking Siberia would neutralize Russia in the Arctic and eastern Asia. Longterm strategy as well as economic. They have 20-30 years before the shores are ice free year round and permafrost subsidence more understood and predictable, so nothing need be rushed.
@Jambonhead847 yeah, Chess is a nice game, until one is punched in the mouth. The analogy was exhausted years ago with "Putin playing chess while the USA played Checkers". Sounded nice, right? And Russia had a better hand than China has today.
You could do a pipeline from Canada to Greenland to Iceland to the UK to Europe. You cannot go from America to Europe direct, it's just too deep, it'd be crushed. By hopping from Canada, Greenland, Iceland, and then the UK or Norway you remain in relatively shallow waters.
My thoughts exactly. One possible issue with a pipeline so long would be tectonic shift and how this could potentially cause a problem. I say this from a chemical engineering perspective where we have to consider everything we can possibly think of, even if it is absurd. One other consideration would be the size of the pumps you would need to force the gas through the pipeline.
@@neilbadger4262 A pipeline there does not make sense. We have enough tankers to deliver oil around the world, e.g. all Arab oil is delivered by tankers to customers.
Happy Sunday, Goodmorning Enforcer and Enforcer Matt hope you both well breakfast again and what's the News from my favourite channel has Ukraine won the war ??
So here are some things about LNX. 1st - The price of LNG is 99% related to the price what suppliers ask for it and not the transport. 2nd - The Atlantic Ocean is constantly growing with lava bursts and very large mountains and valleys. 3rd - It would be an easy target for any enemy, as pipes would be huge and early detectable and disrupted 4th - some zones would be below 1km depth. Making the current technology unable to work. 5th - LNG like every fossil fuels is a "short term" energy solution. Not worth the investment. 6th - Europe has several other LNG suppliers from north and south, and via pipes. Just not as cheap as Russian. 7th - There are plans to start making LNG from solar, in south of Europe.
Pipeline across the Atlantic? Hell No. The depth of the water, the distance, the time and cost, the vulnerability to sabotage, .. No. Maybe, in stages, up the east coast to various ports, eventually through Canada, perhaps to Greenland, Iceland, and then eventually further. This would take decades to a market that may find cheaper alternatives.
You sound very bad when you talk about Greenland, USA have only interest in Greenland because of the money they can make there, USA is now running by billionaires and what do you think they are interested in, do you think they will invest in free hospital and free schools and education like Denmark
The US has bases there. China also has its eyes on Greenland. There is obviously a conflict of interest and it doesn't have much to do with investment or billionaires.
LNG is a chilled product created from natural gas. A great majority of the cost difference between pipeline gas and LNG tankers, is the extra cost for chilling the natural gas to a liquid state, then transporting it via ship to it's destination.
Transatlantic pipe line would be possible. However, it would have to be a much more expensive, much longer, circumatlantic pipe line. Across the Labrador sea, up to Greenland, through Iceland and across the Norwegian sea to Norway. Or possibly Denmark.
