The story of how this song came together is a living definition of why you never give up. This song is a classic. There are a lot of gems in Will's book, along with the story of how Summertime came to be. I've loved this song since a kid, but the way the song almost never happened makes it even more special.

@@prottentogo long story short, Will wasnt going to do the song because he already completed the album and his voice was completely burnt out because of recording all the other songs in a short span of days, but decided to do it once he heard the beat and the hook. Its the reason his voice sounds much deeper than it did on any of his other songs. He ended up writing it at the airport while waiting for his flight. He almost didn't do it, but it became one of his biggest hits of his career.
