“There is but one man in all of Spain who could humble a King, but give a leper to drink from his own bottle. May helping hands be extended to you wherever you go, my Cid”......and Jimena got to watch the whole thing, and reflect on how unfair she has been to the poor guy.
Many years ago in the mid 1970s this film was premiered on Easter Holiday British TV's BBC channel, which has no commercial breaks, but there was a virtually unique 15 minute news intermission in middle of the well over 2hour film. About a dozen million people who had been watching took the opportunity to simultaneously put the kettle on, and the unprecedented surge very nearly overloaded and destroyed the UK's electrical power grid.
Great Movie, I saw it at the Balranald Town hall about 52 yrs ago and I still think from time to time what a great movie it was and what a great story!
El Cid the greatest of all time. Immortal movie. Charlton and Sophia it can get any Better. The production value thanks to Samuel. But the music expresses the Soul of El Cid. Love you Miklos. Such immortal Being. The Music is forever.
That was Jesus in disguise , as Lazarus. Read the Good Book. The three crosses and the name, "Lazarus". It cannot be anyone else there to bless the "Cid".
MIKE HILL Charleton has quite a few literal “come to Jesus moments” in movies (Ben Hur) ;) that are also great scenes. This was made back when society had at least a modicum of reverence towards Christ.
According to the legend of El Cid, in his youth Rodrigo came across a leper sinking in quicksand crying for help, but none of the bystanders dared touch him. Rodrigo pulled him from the bog, clothed him in his cloak, housed him in a barn and went to get him some food. When he returned, he found the leper had transformed into an angelic figure that identified himself as St. Lazarus. He said "For your bravery and kindness you will enjoy success as a warrior. You will win battles upon battles and never know defeat". In a nice nod to the legend, the film contains a scene wherein the banished Rodrigo encounters a thirsty leper who begs a drink. After unhesitatingly offering his own pouch, the Leper thanks him by name. "Who are you?" asks Rodrigo. "I am called Lazarus." The leper answers. Then he crosses Rodrigo with his staff. "May helping hands be extended to you everywhere you go, my Cid."
where the knight rode he was not afraid to bleed never was the king of kings disapointed by his seed since Christ did say to buy a sword justice was the highway he took to serve his lord

She was Naturally the Most Beautiful in the World.
This scene defines who is El Cid.
Momentos sublimes y unos actores insuperables, pareciese que fuesen los personajes históricos los que expresan sus emociones

Actually, if you notice, he is next to the Cross in the center, which is was supposed to be the Jesus one

@@granron23 Now that you pointed that out, yes, you are right!!!
I think it was the Lazarus who was raised from the dead by Jesus.
If you're ever in Miami visit the shrine of St Lazarus
Beautiful
Very moving.

Is it just me or does Lazarus sound like Patrick Troughton?
Funny. I was trying to find out who played Lazarus because I thought he sounded like Boris Karloff.
I agree it sounds like Patrick Troughton but haven't been able to confirm it
godis very very very very good
0:56 What a line. 🤯
Does anyone know the name of the actor who plays Lazarus?.
In my former life I was a leper. God is Great.
Sophia Lorern está brutalmente hermosa en esta escena.
I hate these stupid commercials.
I like how they romanticized this highway criminal who worked for whomever paid the most and now is all of a saint Lol.
Sir Francis Drake, did you mean?
You're probably talking about John Hawkins…true?
YOU Mahometan...
