It’s actually so tragic they’re doing it to us, one of the main reasons I play the game is for my friends but I was so hyped for a full on PVE for the lore, the story, the skill trees. But now it’s all in shambles, idk what Blizzard is cooking up but I truly don’t think we’re going anywhere but downhill.

That stream reminded me a lot of that Final Fantasy XV stream where they announced, on the anniversary of the game, that they're cancelling everything and Hajime Tabata left Square Enix.

That stream was a surreal experience.
To be fair, FF XV as a whole was a devisive shitshow as a whole, and Nomura wanted to be a musical at first. All in all, it was kind of on brand for a game like that.

Activision is pretty high up there two, they literally sold MW2 with a 2 year content life span just to go back on it not even past the 2nd season, I never wanted to refund a game faster in my life, thank god I ditched this shit shortly after season 2

The 343 slander is crazy. The games though rough, are not BAD! Halo 4 has a (although weird) great campaign. Halo 5....well I can give you that one (though i like the multiplayer and forge), and Infinite has a great campaign! Though the multiplayer is lacking. The games are mid, but they could have been worse overall!
Well that's one way to kill a wonderful game that's been struggling. OW2 has been steadily losing players because the seasonal model isn't enough to retain them. The big thing keeping most people playing was that we knew PVE was coming soon, but now it's basically going to be nothing more than what we get for seasonal events. It's really sad to be let down like that by the company

The kicker... the "2" in OW2 was the PvE promise... all that "It's not 1.5" "Its not just patch." Turned out to be B.S! It is just a patch, it is 1.5, lol. RIP OW. We'll remember the good times.
You know what's kinda funny? If they announced back in 2019 that they would be adding seasonal archive style PvE missions to the game to expand the story I would've been pretty excited about that. I think most of the community would've been too. But it was the 4 years of no content, over promising, and having no payoff to the waiting that has left us all outraged. If they had just done this from the start instead of trying to hype up a "sequel" there would be very little anger
I’m still confused because of the way PVE is used. Is the story mode for Overwatch cancelled or is it something else? I’m a casual gamer so forgive my lack of gaming terminology.
I remember when OW1 came out, the promises of live updates and not money gouging the players... so they had to kill OW1 since there were official promises about it, so they could go in to OW2 with their new "great" ideas. Paid battle pass and shop... and events that are just geared around trying to sell skins.

Honestly, we should all uninstall for at least a week. The higher ups seeing a bunch of people uninstall will make PVE a priority. Even better, set a date for everyone to uninstall, like the 25th because people will hear about the mass uninstall at different times/days. Seeing everyone uninstall within a 24 hour period would be scarier than seeing everyone uninstall on different days of the next couple weeks

The problem is gamers don’t boycott like that in large enough numbers. Why would blizzard care if you quit for a week? If you really want to make a change enough people need to stop playing to impact the quarter, that means at least two full seasons. This isn’t going to happen so the boycott idea doesn’t work. If it outrages you to that level you just have to quit the game and not care what they do with it, if it gets better you can always come back

Sure, the new archive missions are gonna be fun.. but it's not the actual full PvE, and that's what sucks.
They went from Overwatch 1, made the game worse, made comp worse, made matchmaking worse, made rankings worse, made lootbox/Battlepass system worse.
AND then to top it all off they scrap PvE (imo the ONLY THING that could redeem this damn game).
It's like they're trying to kill this game, but hey at least they finally got the balancing pretty good, just a shame no one will be left to care.

@@Hyde472 I wouldn't doubt with time after a ton of people leave they'll just do the Hero's of the Storm thing and just have it on life support with no updates besides bug fixing, but I feel like they'll be desperately trying to pull people back since OW is a (failing)E-Sports that could make them money besides monetization.
You know, I just went through my “Last Crusade” games.
Favorite heroes only, 2 games on tank, 4 on dps, 2 on healers. One final one on Reinhardt only.
This was my last goodbye to the game I loved for 7 years and game I wish wasn’t ruined this bad.
I wasn’t scared about changes of Overwatch 2, I was exited. But 4 seasons in, and I just see a game that tries to copy other titles, completely forgetting it always was far beyond them. A game that has fallen apart on its own greed and stupidity.
Overwatch franchise died with Overwatch 1, sadly it took me 4 seasons to realize that through pink glasses I so hardly tried to keep on.
But I was still hopeful for PvE, I wanted lore and absolute enjoyment of heroes I love.
And even that hope is gone now. This is not a goodbye to the game, it is goodbye to entire era.

I mean your not wrong but also not correct, this is on the same vein for me as when the devs got leaked saying they dont give a shit about wow, and do the least amount of effort per expansion. I feel them doing this so suddely and there whole dimenor about it. It feels too me that this just proves too me that they are not even trying too put acctualy effort/support towars the game. 300 people for what they are doing is pretty lackluster, so they probably have a really bad pipeline I'd assume

I am honestly thinking of deleting the game. I played through 3 years of nothing so I will have fun once OW2 came out. Then they say we delay PvE a bit but it should come out same year, just to now cancel the way that made it stand out. I only kept playing these last couple of weeks because I was still hyped for a good story with a great skill system…

If they release the pve missions 1 by 1, a LOT of people will just leave the game and come back when most of the pve is released.
So in the end, that terrible content drought at the end of OW1 was just so they could rework a couple heroes, go 5v5 and most of all, change monetization...

Going from OW to OW2, they:
- Reworked some characters. Fun but should just be rolled out as an update.
- Introduced a new game mode with the requisite maps. Fun but should just be rolled out as a major update.
- Got rid of a game mode. Interesting, but should just be rolled out as an update.
- Moved from 6-man teams to 5-man teams. Very interesting, but should just be rolled out as a major update.
- Introduced a scoreboard. Was debated, but nice overall.
- Killed the leveling systems, on fire system, etc. Dumb.
- Got rid of a rock solid play-to-earn system (25 credits per game unless you're a dps-only player) for a shop, AS WELL AS making old skins that were earnable via said play-to-earn system cost $20.
- Did the above point with a game that people bought. Yes, they changed the monetization system after we payed for it.
- Still haven't delivered on PVE, despite that being their best of their sorry excuses.
...I would probably still be playing this game casually if they just let me earn all the skins that were already in OW. Someday, I'd like to see their sales data on old skins in OW2.
So haters were right, it really was overwatch 1.5, W haters, at least they were honest.

It's very strange that we went from "We're getting PvE in 2022" to "We're getting PvE in 2023" to "Maybe we're not getting PvE at all." I have a hunch that their sales numbers are extremely suffering so they're trying to figure out whether to paywall the entire PvE as a single separate game or drip feed it as either F2P content or paid DLC.

@@GaussianEntity of course I have no way to prove this but I doubt that. Blizzard has been making quite a lot of new skins lately, bundles usually cost about 20-30 ea depending on your currency. Battlepass make a lot of sales too, pre much everyone I know has bought at least one skin from them. I’m sure they have whales buying all the content. Skins seem to be the most profitable form of sales for a game company atm
@@Absinthexx7 I have some evidence we can compare to. In Hearthstone, Blizzard's long-time F2P game, they tend to stick to price amounts when they work. Their bundles often come at a fixed price tag and rarely change. They can add stuff to the bundle but the price won't change. When something doesn't sell as well as they hope, they start to modify the bundle so as to make it more enticing until they find the amount where enough people buy stuff. We've seen this a few times with several products like diamond cards, pack bundle deals, and more recently, their animated portraits.
Overwatch 2 has had a similar pattern. Season 1 BP did decently but not good enough. Blizzard makes changes to the free version. Season 2 brings up a lot of complaints about the shop and deceptive business practices on top of unrewarding BP. Blizzard changes it again to allow players to be able to buy a legendary at the end of each season provided they complete the free pass along with some other changes. BP now looks more like the Hearthstone model. This part is important because it seemed to me like their original model wasn't working so Blizzard opts for stuff that works when things aren't working, classic Blizzard behavior.
Season 3 was also when they announced crossovers, something they were teasing back in the Hearthstone side several months back. I don't think it was discussed much in OW2 and it came very much as a surprise. Why though? To me it seems like a panic move. BP isn't quite working out, the shop gets constant criticism. They needed something so the shop didn't look silly since people really weren't on board. So many threads, discussion videos, etc made with disapproval on the state of the shop so why not try something that will surely land with a popular IP?
We have Season 4 now where they didn't announce many changes to the system. Seems like they found their equilibrium point. People are finally buying enough to consider the BP a success. The skins are also probably selling better now that they found a discounted price tag that people are willing to buy. I haven't played recently to see if the new event has more people buying the skins and using them in the various game modes but if you're seeing them constantly, then it is probable that enough people are buying which probably means we won't see more shop and BP changes for Season 5 and beyond until sales drop again.

I hate this all so much. Broken promises to fans, not over budgetary restraints, but from pure developer greed and laziness.
I hope whoever employee that was genuinely working on OW2 PvE gets their paycheck tripled, and whoever made this decision to scrap all their hard work and efforts gets fired.

You won’t get this from a lot of people based on the announcement, but i don’t think the game is going to die and I hope you’re enjoying the game.
Basically in 2016 overwatch came out was GOTY, really positive experience. Eventually the game was getting boring, 2019 they announce this pve campaign mode which will create a new game. This causes zero content until ow2 came out in 2022, then it announces without pve they say it’s coming asap. A bunch of cryptic messages (to be fair from reporters and not blizz themselves) how pve is closer than we may think, and out of nowhere today a bombshell announcement that the content we waited 5 years for isn’t coming. Very disappointing
My point is if you’re new it’s a really negative time now for the community you may not have been invested in, but I don’t think the game is going to die or that many of these people will stop playing. They’ve been playing all this time without a pve campaign, the idea of quitting just seems unlikely. With that said you’ll see a lot of people disappointed speaking in posts, myself included, but if you’re having fun don’t expect that aspect to change

I got a 2 week ban for saying moira sucks so now I know pve is never going to be a thing I have no reason to really care about OW anymore since the game was getting dry for me anyway.
It's gonna end up being like fornite where we get story lore every 3 months.

It's honestly impressive how badly they screwed up Overwatch. For how far ahead of the curve it was to the neglected, washed out, grindy and predatory milking machine it is now. OW1.5 for life!... nah.

Sad to see. The only strategy that they have for the game now is to keep “trickling” small pieces of content, that are just barely maybe enough to keep milking money out of the people that originally fell in love with the game.
I’ve played this game since release, very dedicatedly, with over 3000 hours. I’ve met a ton of people, some of them I still talk to, and consider very close friends. Had tons of fun with customs, PUG’s, and growth of the original game. There was a very dark and lonely part of my life that this game brought me joy, and sometimes it was the only joy I had. I’ve grown a lot as a person since the release of this game, and in that time, and since the release of OW2, I’ve felt that this was coming.
To see the direction they are taking the game, really breaks my heart. All things must come to an end, I just am sad that it has to be this way with this game. It’s time to move on, and put Overwatch behind me.
The world needs more HEROES, not more economic strategy. Blizzard aren’t the heroes anymore.
I hope those that are distraught by this news are comforted, and find peace.

At this point I’m going to play it only because of the golden weapons
I made my own game concept similar to overwatch with lore of each of the characters, more than three roles, variety, and more. I got bored since there wasnt really anything fun in overwatch and i wanted to work on characters and ideas myself.
The way i see it is this
A:They focus on PVE and PVP which will cost more money and time to make,adding the fact is probably hard ass fuck to code
Or B:Just cancel PVE and work on PVP because its more easier

This game died for me and my friends when they killed the tank Meta. I knew this game was screwed the second they willingly shrunk their lobby size. Claim meta this meta that but truth is a lot of casual overwatch players would treat it like a team deathmatch with objectives, shrink the lobby size= less kills, less action. I still have my copy of origins edition, I guess it’s bound to sit in that case forever now. fuck blizzard
I honestly feel scammed with them canceling it. I've been doing rank ect hit masters. But I didn't even care for rank like I did for PVE. All my friends just want to be able to play together again.

I think I have a theory. They stopped it cause they aren’t looking at the old players, they are looking at the new players, the kids that are playing the game. They are catering to them by making the amazing skins in the battle pass, by making amazing skins only able to purchase from the shop. This is possibly the biggest fuck you to the veterans of Overwatch. And the worse part is that people are still going to play the game cause this game has now been catered to children at this point. Making this game free to play was a mistake. I WANT MY 60 DOLLARS I SPENT ON THIS GAME BACK!

You know, i was honestly exicted about pve, not because i would play it (not a huge pve shooter guy) but the fact that i have been very hapoy with the balance changes example being junker queen, shes a bit overtuned but the idea is right, i think if they do 1.65 healing instead of 2x (maube between 1.65 and 1.75 is the sweetspot) so the idea of them following through with pve would have cemented that they gave a shit finnaly, but this just proves its not going too change for me. I live this game so much its honestly one of the only shooters i geniunly enjoy playing, but now idk if i can trust them anymore, this ove thing i think is a huge calling card for future updates be pvp or not. Sad days for us brothers.
