I applied over 5 times. Didnt match. Did early morning rotations along with my job to get a US letter of recommendation and some experience but did not match inspite of trying everything I could. Now I work in regulatory affairs. Minimal regrets. Wish I had given up sooner and looked elsewhere. Came from another country as a doctor and just focused in one one career path.

It's insane to me that you guys need to pick a speciality right out of med school. We get 2 years of working as juniors in different rotations before we apply to speciality training and you can totally just take an extra year or two if you don't get in or you just want to take a bit of a break, it's so much less stressful. And gives us time to actually work in various areas before we decide.
Where are you? That's how it works in New Zealand where I live too. Two years as a house officer with various rotations, then you choose and apply for your specialty area.

Let me just tell you. I have been practicing in healthcare for almost 20 years. Ivy League educations do not impress me. Some of the worst doctors, PAs, NPs, and RNs I have worked with have come from Ivy leagues. Not only are a lot of them bad they have arrogance that hinders their ability to learn. I’ll take a state educated and trained provider any day of the week.

You can go through the SOAP process if you’re eligible (try to match into open residency spots) and then you could either match into a residency or a prelim year (prelim has to participate in the match again next year), or you could not match out of the SOAP process and thus you have to participate in the match again next year
