I absolutely love both of these episodes with Bronson. Please do more. Such clarity of thinking that i came back from the 2nd episode to watch this one.
Republicans and Democrats hating each other, not getting married etc. Is a pretty recent phenomenon. We all suffer from a horrid case of presentism. Just as he pointed out with people who seem to think the US started in 1945 and with human history in general.
So many of these jobs that people are worried about are jobs that could be remote jobs and they can stay in their home countries. And the word migrant used to be because people would migrate to a seasonal job, and then migrate their way back home. Stop giving companies welfare, stop putting your foot on the scale to affect the price of things. And Americans will find a way to harvest their own food or create tools that do it for them. Using essentially slave labor to bring in people from four countries is not the way to answer the question. Also, if the people were taking from countries that are struggling are so amazing, then we're making the countries they're coming from continue to struggle, if America is just an idea, then they can take that idea and do it over there... My responsibility isn't to do stuff for my grandchildren and their grandchildren only to hand it over to someone I don't know, someone who has no connection or ties to this land. And if you want to say what about the native American tribes they were affected by this, you are correct, that was definitely a problem that should be avoided... But we did not invade the United States of America and take over the United States of America, we came to territory where there were groups that fought within themselves and outside of themselves on the regular and then we conquered them. And made a country. Neither of those are good things to be conquered or to have someone completely demolished what you had previously. Just like the native Americans had the right to have the system that they had, we have the right to have the system we have. So we will defend it tooth and nail. We don't need cheap nannies and cheap lawn care... AI and automation will replace a lot of people's jobs, so maybe women can stay home with their children because they won't need a two household income, because we won't need as many people working. Systems tend to work out where people get what they need to get by, if you invent welfare, Walmart finds a way to pay you as little as possible so you still need government assistance to get by, but if you took that away, Walmart would have to pay a decent wage so you can still get by. Because when that isn't done, people revolt and fix it themselves in the streets. Our country and our culture is not an economic zone for people to mine and use with to get rich and do it as they see fit, just as many other countries around the world would feel invaded with the American army there telling them how to live their lives, so too should every American with people from other cultures that do not sync up with the founders of this country and their points of views. You can have plenty of people with different backgrounds who believe in what America was set out to be, and they could come here on limited number and be that thing. There are more than five types of Americans that have America in their blood, we don't need to bring in a bunch of people who don't have that in their mindset or in their goals of life. We are not a gold mine for others to destroy for their own profit. When people join the military, they're often people who have assumed the identity as an American, when you have people coming into your country then do not join the military, they do not sacrifice for this nation, they are left at home while Americans are away, they profit, they start businesses and change laws while Americans are off fighting wars that we have no business in. If someone comes to this country and is it willing to put their life on the line for what it is to defend America, then they don't get to come here. Because they're not willing to actually make the sacrifice for their bloodline to be able to be an American. Yet we keep getting involved in silly wars with other nations we have no business going to war with, starting wars with people we have no business starting wars with. But it's the same issues, pushed by the same outside group that has made their way inside. No brother Wars, and no cousin wars either.
As an Indian American, there's a big difference between Indians (& other Asians) who immigrate to the US versus immigrants from other countries. Frankly, I don't understand why people think the USA is the best country in the world & want to come here so much. My extended family who stayed in India are doing much better over there than my nuclear family who came to the "land of 'opportunity.'" My life has been hellish as a 1st gen American.

100%. This guys sounds like a spoilt, privileged, entitled white rich kid. I highly doubt he's a "successful startup founder". Actually, for all the worship of startups and founders, I've yet to see this podcast interview many/any actual tech CEOs or founders. Would someone like Nik Storonsky be found in 100 km of this podcast? I doubt it.
Bronson, go to England and visit a random town in Suffolk then come back, look me in the eye, and tell me that you're okay importing that mediocrity by the hundreds of thousands. We're much better off welcoming hundreds of thousands Indians, Nigerians, Malaysians, Israelis etc etc who are from cultures that require hard work and hustle, and shun mediocrity
My BS alarm went off many times in the interview. "It would mean people here have no control over their destiny". (Bronson on immigration) What kind of world does this guy live in thinking people have control over their destiny at all? In the real world, life always involves some degree of risk, change, adaptation, compromise. Such qualities actually make successful startup founders (who tend to be immigrants, which preselects for such qualities). He seems to feel more sympathy for 18th century settlers than people now living.
He makes some half decent points about unity toward the end. But if he wants unity, surely America, as it is now, needs something more than white anglo patriarchy. It needs an inclusive vision based on moral principles such as human rights, rule of law and equality.
@@jaythefox assuming what you say is desirable, none of that precludes a more restrictive immigration policy than what the uS currently has. There is no human right to immigrate to the US.

You should give Vivek and Elon a call or forward this to them because they are in so much trouble with America right now.

First time I get to understand what Indian bronson position is ...
Great podcast that was about 9 years too late. Still not fighting WW3
Let’s keep raising the fact that all merit-based visa applications STILL require a covid shot in 2024 😮
His entire thesis is he likes white people who speaks english. In his list of preferred countries he lists england twice.
He loves America, America at its roots is British. White britbongs built this nation.

As a white guy who speaks English, agree, you're 100% right. This guy is such a phoney.
Pro immigration people seem to love and want literally anyone to immigrate to the US but white people. Cope.

Noah Smith needs to been drafted to respond to this pod.
Why no push back?
Does he? He'll just make the same economic or "neoliberal" type arguments for immigration that this convo is already responding to.
Exactly same in IT in Australia
