question: trying to pull out a M54B30 from a E46. But I'm a little worried about the wiring. Everything is good to go, except for the wiring. I've disconnected all the plugs from the ECU, but some of the wiring from the engine harness goes underneath the ECU to inside the car. What to do with that? EDIT: nevermind. Found it. It were wires from the O² sensors, which could be disconnected on top of the engine. So all good here!

Question: 1) I just bought a 323 Ci 2000 with 121K Body in good shape, two owners...came with the intake manifold in the trunk, because the previous owner took everything off to replace the CCV...never did it, car has been parked for an year but was running ok when parked (supposedly) Oil looks good, valves too, but I want to do a quick compression test to make sure that the engine justify the time to start putting everything back, and replacing hoses, etc. Can I crank the engine without inatake manifold, with just the starter connected or the computer won't allow me to do it?? 2) If engine is bad, I have a solid M54 2001with 107K Could I use it as a replacement? I have a 99 328i and a 2000 323ci 5 speed manual it has a hole in the block, the 328 is auto and is only cranking right now i heard the injectors can rust out if it was abandoned for a while but thats something i havnt checked, would it be worth trying to fix the 328 motor and putting it the 323ci with the 5 speed, and basically all electrical stuff is compatible right? Besides the dme flash to make it a 328, just dont want to keep throwing money at them if im juat gonna get deeper in the hole

depends how complete your donor is, how good your local coding guy is. short answer is no, long answer is yes with a bunch of module coding. MS43 and MS45.1 do not play nice
Hi, I am looking at doing a m54b22 replacement (head gasket over heating problem) I'd like to know is there anything computer wise eg injectiors that have to be programmed when installing the new donor motor into the car. Or will I get problems from the EWS, DME, key or dash as the engine is different or different mileage?? Thanks
generally speaking you can just plug any M54 in as long as you retain everything from your old engine. 2001 330i stuff works if you get a coded MS43. I dont typically ship those overseas, but could consider it.

Is it easier to pull then engine with the transmission still attached or does taking the transmissin off make it easier? I am going to do it in a one car garage so not too much room to maneuver.
Ovalbore. Could you please explain to me how you set up those ratchet straps to keep the engine centered as you lifted it out? I'm a little confused as to where the tension is being applied. I plan on taking the engine and trans out together on mine, but I have benefit of using my non BMW dealer's equipment. So my condenser is already out as well as radiator support assembly, bumper and headlights Etc.
I'd spend the $40 on a proper load leveler. I use straps because I know exactly what I'm doing and am willing to risk the engine coming crashing down on the car. I don't recommend you do the same.

I didn't have the room to lay a pallet down and set the assembly on it in conjunction with the crane behind it. But as of now I have it down to the block awaiting its trip to the machine shop when I get the head back.

I have less than 500 miles on my fuel pump, radiator system, and belts (200 328i). Would anything be able to bolt on from one engine to anothee like some Honda engines?
unfortunately a lot that won't work straight out of the box M54 vs M52TU. as long as you put absolutely everything from your M54 on to the M52TU, it'll work.

Did you succeed with the swap?. If so what things where done?. I believe the easier swap would be to go M52TU as the m43 and m52 are both drive by cable. Also iirc they both carry Siemens ecus .

AWD E46s are completely different cars unfortunately. since I don't work on AWD cars, you won't find any relevant material on my channel unfortunately.
@Hunter Johnson check out bimmerforums theres a lot of guys on there that have done xi swaps, the oil pan is a bit different and you have to work with the front diff, other then that I've heard theres not much difference
@@OvalboreCars clusters on these cars are known to fail. You just replace them with a used working unit and live with the tamper light. I did it for mine. Some people might try to open them and resolder joints
it will physically bolt in. there's a lot you need to have done to make it an actual 330 though, and even to make it run without CEL, etc. you can use a 323, 325 or 328 engine probably worry free if you leave all the manifolds, sensors and computers from the 323 on there.
I really don't want to dispute this, but can't you put an '03 M54B30 engine into an '02 530i or 330i without recoding the DME (ECU) in the '02 car? I mean an M54B30 engine is the same in in '01-'03 330i & 530i, right. Use '02 car's wiring harness and coils

we didnt get anything under a 323i here in north america. chances are it's just an oil separator and cheap gaskets.

these transmissions, like most manuals aren't designed to be down shifted into first unless standing still. If you're rolling at all, start in second.

you have to bring along most of the 3 liters accessories.

throw the automatic transmission in a dumpster and get a real gearbox.

should be. thats the wrong engine for that car though, so you'll want a set of 323 injectors and a 323 tune.

I've done it, but yeah getting the trans on a stand, getting the engine out around it is just a huge pain. not worth it IMO.

almost always.. you will have to loosen the rack, and be very careful of the AC condenser though.
