The biggest difference between a high-end and a cheap guitar nowadays is the prep work for the finish, as well as the setup/final assembly. The cheap manufacturers tend to put on a thicker finish to hide small imperfections, rather than sanding the instrument properly, which allow a much thinner finish. Similarly they just put the hardware and strings on the guitar and calls it a day, rather than spending the extra hours leveling, crowning and polishing the frets. Then there's, of course, the less important cost savings, like multiple pieces of wood in the bodies, cheaper woods and cheaper components. These factors, however, does very little to the quality of the playing experience, look and sound of the final instrument comparatively

The blacked out hummingbird model would have been really cool if they added a Raven or another blackbird on the pick guard. The Raven could be just a white outline of the bird to really pop.
I mean, when I last looked into it, the prices are about equivalent to what they were when you adjust for inflation. There is an argument to be made when you compare custom shop vs USA. But for the most part, pretty sure Gibsons have always been expensive. And guitars in general are a lot cheaper compared to other working musician level instruments that are like $10,000-$15,000 for a good one.

As much as I love Gibsons they can’t hold a candle to anything above a Martin D18. Like Hank Sr. said “ I play the martins at the opry and the Gibsons in the bars because they were more durable against beer bottles being thrown at it”

Martin QC has been an absolute nightmare, every month on Reddit and the Acoustic Guitar Forum and the Unofficial Martin Guitars Forum there are new threads and comments complaining about loose bindings, shrinking bindings and neck resets being a common issue way too early. It seems every D/OM/000 Martin guitar acquired brand new between 2014 and 2023, have the chance of binding problems within months. With a few more extreme cases needing a full-on neck reset straight out of the box. And don't you go thinking this only affect the cheaper models, there reports of 9,000 dollars Martin D45's with these issues. Some of the people with these issues are international buyers. Outside of Martin's warranty, imagine saving thousands of dollars to buy your dream guitar, just to find out it needs the binding to be glued again or the entire neck to be reset.
there are so many better acoustic guitars out there for 5-7k than something Gibson threw some black paint and binding on and decided it was suddenly a high-end model. Such a disgrace.
I have the Epiphone J45 Studio, only paid $349 and I bet it gets at least 80% of that custom sound, but mine is just acoustic, with no electronics. Everyone was saying you should have an acoustic in your collection and I figured it would help my practicing.

Since they are all sprayed in a gloss black, it allows Gibson to use lesser-figured wood, saving them money. For what they are asking, I predict that this whole line of guitars will not be a success.
I'm not fond of the prices or the black finish. With Martin openly admitting they're using lasers and 3D printers to cover for "cosmetically inferior wood" I can't help but to question it when a much less transparent company drops a blackout guitar. As much as people hate/hated Richlite...I'm super glad I managed to pick up an AG Parlor before they disappeared (again, RIP J-165 regularity).
I would like to compare the sound between the Hummingbird guitar (24.75 inch scale) and the Dove ( with a 25.5 inch scale).just to see if there is a noticeable difference, in person. Have a good day.
Back in 2013, a Les Paul Goldtop Tribute Gibson J-45 Acoustic was released. Please bring that back. Can't even order the Goldtop finish on a Custom Shop M2M order. This is the Black Beauty Les Paul version applied to every Gibson Acoustic model/body style. The Les Paul Custom neck and headstock are gorgeous on a Acoustic Guitar.

got a used E20SS for 800e myself. I don't think acoustic Gibsons are worth it, I'd say the Eastman probably sounds better and is better built than a J45. I do own a '21 LP Custom which is great though. But I don't play acoustics enough to put 2k+ in one and Eastman is killing it, shame their LP style electric looks weird
Keep in mind that Gibson acoustics aren't made in the Gibson USA Memphis factory anyway. They're made in Montana where apparently the humidity is better suited for acoustic guitars. I've been led to believe that the Montana factory is higher attention to detail than the Memphis plant is. So not sure how much better the custom shop is unless they also use more premium materials as well. For example Martin will charge you $1250 to use hide glue over Titebond or whatever "modern adhesive" is in vogue currently. Losing the inlay and pick guard details makes it a no go for me.
@@lovesgibson you are correct that higher cost ones have nicer materials and better build. i am talking about how it plays, feels and sounds. back in the mid-80s, i got a cheapish Yamaha acoustic which sounded and played as well as any guitar I have tried. I gigged with it for the next 15 years until someone 'borrowed' it and i never saw him again. I think I paid 200 which would be like a 600 guitar today. i highly doubt thost 5-8K Gibsons play and sound any better than a 2K (name the brand). it my sound slightly different as they all have different sounds but it is hard to say one sound is better than the other as that becomes subjective once you get in the 1500-2000 range.

Hmmmm.
A black guitar is the worst colour you could own . They show up every fingermark when you touch them , you have to forever be wiping them down . Back in 1975 i had the option to buy a Black Custom or a Cherry Brandy , i took the Cherry , and was glad i did .
I'd NEVER pay $5000. for that acoustic guitar. I've have a 1952 and a 1997 Gibson L5 ces. But I think Gibson is out of their minds with their prices now.
Bought one, and love the guitar. It is different than my standard J45, and my 42 banner. I like them all. 65 years to be able to get to own them, and totally enjoy playing them for as long as I can. Gibsons are awesome!

I only wish your sound samples you play at the end could use a couple modes, respectfully, a Chorus, a Dirty, couple of clean amps to play though for variety. I don't expect amp reviews, you are great at what you do, better than anyone i can find. Maybe a Jc120, Princeton, anything you would see workable. Just ABC with foot switch, just want to hear more guitar. Thank you, be well.
If spending more than $500 on a guitar, QC should not be an issue at all, especially at the $5k dollar level. That binding is unacceptable and the specs aren’t even nice enough to warrant more than $1k for an acoustic like this. Sad that the same instruments as years ago are priced so much higher and quality has gone down as well.
Nice. I must admit I prefer an acoustic to have some nice wood grain on show but I like the headstock. A few years back I got a J45 Custom which is quite different to this, it's sunburst with gold tuners and rosewood back and sides. Gibson models can certainly get confusing at times with so many variations on specs of different instruments with similar names!

My $500 Sigma Martin-knockoff came with less QC issues than this thing. If you can afford a Gibson, God bless.. But holy smokes. For the price you pay you'd think a little more care would go into it.
Is that a new truss rod cover? Different strings, different pick and the way you play will change the sound of it a lot, I’m sure you could brighten it up a little bit. I had the same issue with my custom shop j185, eventually sold it because I just never fell in love and got a Martin with a cut away and it’s great

Humidity matters when you move the guitar not when building.

My $350 Yamaha FGX800 sounds better than this 3k thing and does the exact same job very well. And if it gets damaged or stolen, im only out 350 vs 3k

Prices are absolutely ridiculous, but I love the idea, I wish they would do custom V's with the open book headstock, like the Zakk Wylde ZV had.

You really don't strum the guitar hard enough to really bring out the sound. Use a heavy pick and BANG that thang to get the sound it is capable of.

I've learned to use Martin Retro monel-based strings, works great on a J45
My acoustic is a PRS Se Tonore parlor size. It’s all mahogany with a natural ebony board in black to with a cream pickguard.
You should put that headstock up against a LP custom and see if it’s the same, looks kinda different but idk

One of my acoustics cost a little over $1000 ... it's nicely appointed ... looks good and sounds GREAT ... I just can't believe these could sound dramatically better for those prices !

My $500 Sigma Martin-knockoff came with less QC issues than this thing. If you can afford a Gibson, God bless.. But holy smokes. For the price you pay you'd think a little more care would go into it.

Is that a new truss rod cover? Different strings, different pick and the way you play will change the sound of it a lot, I’m sure you could brighten it up a little bit. I had the same issue with my custom shop j185, eventually sold it because I just never fell in love and got a Martin with a cut away and it’s great
