Its really easy to take for granted Andrews videos and how much work they take to make. Its nice to hear the process and understand that this person has dedicated so much of himself over the years to make and produce these highly entertaining food videos. And not only has raised up himself as a person but has also used his platform to raise up others. Expressing this, I know I don't even know half of the whole story but its special to hear from Andrew his experiences, it makes me appreciate the show and channel and individual videos even more. Andrew/Babish you should be proud and thankyou for your contribution to society

Andrew, don’t be so hard on yourself. There’s a lot of us that just like your content for who you are without anything else. Enjoyed all the Japan vids, but hope 2025 brings you all over the place regardless of content or not. You are deserving of love and admiration regardless of whether it’s making Babish a profit or not. Go to Italy, chill for a bit, and maybe come back rejuvenated, but the audience will support you while you figure ish out. We got your back like a sweater.

Honestly. Andrew is one of my favorite creators because of his candor. This interview with you made me an instant follower because it’s just as honest and real as his interview with Josh from MK. Really well researched, poignant questions, and a lot of depth. He’s a phenomenal chef and a relatable guy. SA is difficult to talk about, but especially for a guy in the public eye…same goes for mental health and addiction struggles. He’s a genuine human and I love him for it. Haven’t found a video with him where I didn’t find him relatable or fun to watch. Great interview. I think you, Josh and Sean Evans are up there with the amount of care and finesse you put into your line of questioning…honestly, awesome job.

I think a lot of that magic in a bottle was a combination of the music, the high quality video, the charm of Andrew's personality and humor, the way it was shot with a focus on just the hands, and the real star of the show (besides the awesome food) Babish's silky smooth voice. Seriously he could make money just doing ASMR. Even in this interview I'm like "I could listen to his voice all day."

This was a great interview, I appreciate it a lot. I've always been a fan of the Babish channel, he is genuinely funny and that aside from food that has always been my favorite part. It was one of the channels that motivated me to pull the trigger on starting a channel myself, which is very nerve wrecking for sure as anyone who has done it knows. Everyone has struggles, even those who seem to have the world in the palm of their hands. I can definitely appreciate setbacks, he mentioned a few himself and it resonates as I am still very much in the "struggle bus" stages of trying to get my stuff more exposure. There are days of self doubt and discouragement for sure, there are times of feeling like I am losing my mind just trying to solve it all. There are also optimistic days for sure. And like he said, you never know what is around the corner. Again, I appreciate the interview and Andrew has definitely had a great impact on me. Keep up the great work, and merry christmas to everyone here

This was a wonderful interview. I have subscribed to many cooking channels over the years. Some have failed to evolve. Some have become very popular and changed so dramatically with fame and money that they have totally forgotten who they were and lost their soul. BWB has somehow managed to evolve, yet keep its soul. Andrew seems like the same guy he always was, just with a nicer watch.
As a more casual fan, I wasn’t aware of Andrew’s hospital incident. That is a tough thing to hear and watch. As a much smaller creator, I look up to people like Andrew who have managed to be transparent yet private simultaneously. If you ever read this comment, I appreciate you, Andrew.

im early on in the video at the part where you talk about formats, and (idk if you do later in the video) i wish you guys had talked about being with babish, an old series that honestly meant so much to me. the final episode he put out was absolutely heartwarming and it revolved around helping a family with cancer while also tying in beautifully with Andrews own experience with cancer. That episode came out just before covid happened and id hoped it would return after but it never did. I know andrew has been through alot (ive read the reddit post and seen other media where he talks about it) and id love to see his own experiences to help pay goodness forward through revisiting that series.

I hadn't realized that he scaled back his content to feature himself primarily again. I might have to go and sub again. I was one of those that unsubscribed and stopped watching after the 2020 shift, because I subbed for his personality and voice over. Once that took a backseat, I eventually found myself no longer interested in his videos until I just unsubscribed.
Now that that's no longer the case for the most part, I'll have to give the channel another watch.

I've always loved your content and how you present everything, absolutely inspiring. I watched the Last Meal you did with Mythical Kitchen and i felt it when you talked about your major mental break and losing your fiancé at the time to things going on and whatever you were willing to share and it made me apprecaite you more not only as a content creator but a human being. I'm happy to see you succeed now more than ever. My gf and I watch your videos as they come out as we eat dinner lol. This is the video I've been looking for, but been unable to find anywhere on the platform.
Thanks to all involved for making it happen 🙌
Hearing the discussion around introducing changes to the channel after the viewership has become acustomed is an interesting concept that ive not seen laid out like this before.
Reading comments here from people who dislike these changes, regardless of how unsustainable for the creator the status quo was is eye opening.
Nothing changing ultimately leads to the channel ceasing to exist due to the toll on the very creator you want to stay the same forever.
It's a bit like Lenny & the mouse
That Kodak discussion at the begining feels more salient...
Love the insights into the industry your videos provide, thanks for making them 👍

Interesting, regarding why people when to First We Feast (16:34) and why people go to BCU. Very much reminds me of Kodak (calling back to his tattoo). I'm a fellow Rochesterian, and any Rochesterian knows that Kodak's biggest problem was not that it was a film manufacturing company that missed the boat on Digital. Kodak was a CHEMICAL company that made its money on film PROCESSING. THAT is why it passed on digital--it was as if you went to a car manufacturer and said, "Why not make RC cars? They're cars, after all. And you guys make cars, right?" Knowing what your strength is, as a company, and what it is that draws people to you is often the hardest part of running a business.

Audience expectations are always gonna get you eventually. The same way concert crowds always want to hear your one hit 4 or 5 times in one show, the online audience is gonna lash out when they stop seeing X recipe from pop culture recreated in the same style they were when the channel started out. Creators and their audience inherently get separated by that problem, because you can't just do the same thing every day of the week, or be the same person you were 5 years ago.

This was a very good piece, but there was something I found troubling that is not limited to one channel or two. It is the showing of people that are high on the food chain, but ignoring the people that are doing many of the tasks that allow those on the higher rungs to do and be who they are. Crew is IMPORTANT. Like he said, it allows him to get back his balance, but yet, in the same sentence is being treated as nameless, faceless worker bees that are not worthy of having their credit shared. It takes a village, not just the leaders of the village. Some crew work for peanuts, in the hope that someone will see there work attributed to them, while others are in it for the creative outlets. Whatever their reason, they are just as deserving of credit. It is how many, if not most of us got our start. As we make it up the channels, giving that spotlight time to bask on those people making what we do possible is part of the responsibility of leadership.

That’s the wrong impression about Kodak. Kodak was an early adopter and investor in digital cameras. They made partnerships with Nikon, Canon, and Fuji to create digital SLRs long before the modern age of digital cameras. Kodak created the sensors, processors, etc, and stuffed them in SLR bodies from Nikon, Canon, and Fuji. Kodak’s issue is they couldn’t maintain the pace of innovation necessary to be a player in digital camera space after Nikon and Canon produced their own without Kodak.

Lately someone he had on their.. forget her name is all pissy about him now and calling him a sell out... but she literally goes on people podcasts to spit on other cooks/chefs faces like she is superior....😒 Andrew taught me things and I've learned. He is the best!

Kodak, by the way, is looking to re-expand thanks to the consumer boom in single-use cameras as well as Hollywood picking up their film products again! They're acquiring more production equipment for next year.
    Who would've thought?

It's tough to get a foot in the door now. Andrew and his channel was a big inspiration for me to start my own channel, but there's nowhere you can post your content outside of TH-cam anymore where you'll get any sort of real exposure. It was funny seeing Andrew posting his early vids on r/Food and getting positive traction, all of those subreddits don't allow video posts anymore.
I'm not trying to say i'm as good as Andrew or my content would ever be as good as his, but starting out now and trying to get noticed by the algorithm is really tough 🥲 Aside from just getting lucky and hitting the algo somehow, it's hard to not feel like the boat has sailed for new creators.
And yes, I know this is a pity party 😅

@@Tamajyn I wasn't aware you're in Australia. Can you make business cards about your site and hand them to people, make a flyer where the bottom is your website can l be ripped off many times by people, maybe stores will let you hang your website flyer, you can put post card flyers on car windshield, can you speak or give out flyers at a town meeting.

I'm glad he respected Adam Friedland's wishes to not be mentioned as his inspiration to create videos. Adam has his own career and doesn't wish to take any shine away from one of his closest friends.

The ironic part is an Kodak Employee created the first functional Digital Camera. Kodak literally funded it's successors creation. Yet they did not adapt fast enough and take credit for it.

Crazy to hear how things come to be. Imagine being so obsessed getting the most karma you can on a food subreddit that inevitably leads to a full blown TH-cam career, and a successful one at that.

"Babish is a company and a person" yeah this is a huge problem with content creators in general. Because people refuse to take criticism *at all* because "well they're a person you should never EVER criticize a person!". Once upon a time, you could say "Hey, I don't know anything about the person, but it's really annoying when the content does [this thing that the person in the content is doing]" without getting jumped on that you're hating on the content creator. Even from creators who wave the flag of "you can like something and have criticism for it" - you suddenly can't do it that if it's about them. (And this is criticism, not hate. So this isn't "he sucks, he's terrible, he's an awful creator" it's just "I don't like this thing in the content")
