Another great thing is that this deck is very affordable if you are not going the "cEDH" route (as in not playing the most expensive cards like the opals and LED). So if you really like the deck or are playing casual, you can build this deck somewhat on a budget and then gradually upgrade it if you want to. The core itself is very budget friendly.
Gotta respect the players that love and play the hell out of a single/their fav commander (even if they’re not top tier). They’re forces to be reckoned with
That is one of the big reasons he won. A player in the final game removed a stax piece that made Magda win in instant speed. And the player and even the commentators didn't know magda could win in that situation.
I’m definitely going to make a Magda deck now. Your $100 toolbox Yisan deck was what got me into this format, and this seems like it’s right up my alley!
The whole spiel of getting Xorn out can just be skipped by going for Academy Manufactor instead, just tap the clue and the artifact dwarf to generate 3 more tokens (one of which is an untapped treasure)
Great video. I don’t know why every id surprise by Magda winning Marchesa. Ok, is not tier 1 deck, but last year Magda made top13 in Marchesa 2021. I don’t find that strange that the deck reach finals and won by an opponent mistake. But it has been a year since Magda is a real cEdh deck. For my the most surprinsing thing is how different Koibito’s built is from the other Madga built. A lot supposed staples from Magda deck are missing. So, incredible fine tuned deck
Another unexpected strength of this deck is that whole Clock of Omens combo works at instant speed. Reminds me of some versions of Sisay and other decks where sometimes the best way to respond to another player is to win on the stack on top of them.
The line I always go for with Magda is Grinding Station after I make infinite tapped treasures because then I can keep doing the clock loop and tapping grinding station in between to mill out my opponents and then get memory jar and have everyone draw from an empty library. I did put Utvara Hellkite and Maskwood Nexus in recently after seeing this deck, just to have a good midrange card to grab when I'm not set up to win with clock from a Magda activation.
Someone in my local group made this deck. I was playing a pretty casual squirrels deck and tutored up Plague Engineer before he got to 5 treasures to activate Magda. He had no answers and the Squirrels got the W. Funny stuff.
I've been playing and fine-tuning a Magda deck for a long while now. Finally found some cEDH ideas to draw from. It is definitely a deck that needs a blue player to stop it from going crazy.
Great video Mons. As a relatively new player, this kind of deck tech is what I need as I generally struggle(as apparently Marchesa palyeds did too) to figure out what they are trying to do. Combo descriptions were short, but well explained.
The combo isen't that super complicated. You just need to see it to actually see it. And you go. Ahhh thats how it works. I really like combos like that.
Academy Manufactor replaces maskwood+xorn, and there are a total of 11 Dwarves that count as artifacts and vice versa. Highly recommend trying this deck out, by far my fav.
You still want to have xorn because you can play him from your hand on turn 2 or 3 and make double treasures to get to your goal faster. But I see your point
the comboline while correct is way more convoluted than needed imo. Wouldnt Grinding station work perfectly in this deck in place of say memory jar? Even if naturally drawn it could act as a sort of staxx piece against tutor effects that put stuff on top and it will end the game insta if the clock combo gets online.
One commander I've been testing for cedh has been ragavan and I'm not gonna lie it feels so good to exile thassa's oracles or underworld breaches , also I've found that ragavan is also good for disrupting land drops from exiling them off top 🤣
Sounds cute but I can think off better. I mean, sure you get a kinda card draw and ramp at turn one. But it is not guarantead. But I could see it hit good stuff. I think I rather play mono red grenzo tho.
Oh man when I get grenzo out it becomes a party for sure! I understand the reasoning for sure! But this video helped me so much with options for the deck so I very much appreciate the upload ! Keep up the awesome content
I run cards like key to the city and goblin smuggler and break through the line to make ragavan go through haha , I swear I hit sol rings and mana vaults all the time haha
What do you think about vehicles? Does that go well in the deck or it doesn't need it? And why does he have the skirk prospector goblin? I'm trying to understand why
I have to say I don't know why skirk prospector is in there. But Vehicels are good in Magda I have seen other magda players play them and the feel like they fit well. The good ones tho not any card can go in.
magda can simply poop on ad naus: put naus on the stack, fetch clock of omens, play the loop on the stack with an artifact dwarf, assemble your wincon and go off, then allow ad naus to resolve..magda is one of those decks that abuses the stack..koibito won his games because of his perfect timing
@@cedhtv yep..two factors that made magda the dark horse: 1. the bad habit of every format happened - not paying attention to fringe or non-meta decks..seeing hermit all over the place was nauseating (no pun intended) 2. they were under the impression that magda only knows one trick - curio which is clunky per magda experts
Isn’t there a way to cast infinite forks/reverberate lightning bolts too with dualcaster mage and flash speed?? Thought I saw it’s lines in another Magda build before?? Thanks to all for posting :)
I've been playing Magda since release, and it's honestly so strong, while sometimes I miss the interaction gained by playing blue (before this I played blue farm and grixis piles pretty much exclusively) this deck is just as strong and often just outpaces them, and also despite the lack of blue, it's actually rather difficult to interact with in a meaningful way

I suspect it helps if nobody really knows for sure what your deck is trying to do. Homebrew is usually worse, but you can gain an edge if nobody else's deck runs like yours does.
The deck is quite terrible, but it benefits from cEDH basically not having any form of mass-removal in most decks. So all the trash creatures are not going to die too often, and someone on the table hopefully has no creatures as well so you can just attack into them all the time.
I would say yes. This is a good start. BUT! There are a lot of cards this commander play that only this commander play. If you start with a different commander you have a bigger option to change to a different commander.
@@wojciechpiotrowski6183 yes, the question was: how would it do it without an opponent making a mistake? There's some options to play through it like the curio way or the beatdown way, but any possibility of clock combos? idk
I don't want to take anything away from the deckbuilder & pilot but having played Magda a few times, people probably dismissed the deck at first. Once my group saw the strength of Magda, they made sure she wouldn't stick. Then, you realize you are playing bad cards and you need Magda out asap. It's really easy to stop once you realize what the deck does.
probobly OK. I mean you can swap combo for big stompy dragons. So yeah she should work decently. I am not that good at 1v1. I stopped playing when they started to ban everything for dual commander.

under the radar commanders can definitely do it sometimes using very niche lines of play. this was just a REALLY good example of it, because it was so unexpected by everyone else. they all likely expected the clunky curio combo and didn't think magda would've been able to assemble something like that, at instant speed no less.

I'm glad that I could help you make this episode by giving you some insight into magda!
Yes big thank you. You helped out a bunch to understand this deck.
I wonder if part of Magda's success is due to just how unexpected the deck was.🤔
But regardless, it's great to see a deck defy all expectations!
That is one of the big reasons he won. A player in the final game removed a stax piece that made Magda win in instant speed. And the player and even the commentators didn't know magda could win in that situation.
Kinda like the OG Heliod that made it into top 4, pregame knowledge of lines that should be stopped is a weakness of common cEDH decks.
