The actor who played Tony did say in an interview that he really struggled with this role but he's glad he brought awareness of things like this by doing this storyline
Apparently it ruined his career which is a shame, I remember hearing about how in the 70's playing a rape victim in a film or show was also a immediate career killer. Glad we're finally not only accepting these stories as ones that should be told but also not punishing the actors and actresses brave enough to take them on.
Yeah, people really couldn’t distinguish between an actor and character, and this role impacted his life and I think he got hassled because of the role.
Tbh he played a right good belter in my opinion showing everyone just how close a child abuser can be and how they manipulate the child and everyone else around them and how to watch for warning signs. In my opinion he deserved an award irl for it and Whitney and Bianca did as well ❤❤
@@abbieroseholden4174 I agree they did it very well, and i do wonder if it helped a lot of people who were suffering with abuse at the time and maybe even now
This storyline was really important to me. I was a teenager being sexually abused when I saw this, and it was one of the earliest indications to me that what was happening to me wasn't right.
1:14 Patsy's acting at that particular moment was just amazing! Just the sheer shock and devastation of finding out it was happening right under her nose. It's things like this that need to be made aware and it's a good thing that they did this storyline!
The penny finally dropped for Bianca she realised the man she loved was an absolute monster. Well done to the guy who plays Tony though must be hard to play a villian but his acting nailed this and so did Bianca and Whitney as well
He actually regretted taking the role he said he’s career massively declined after this role, but said he was proud to be part of such an important storyline
Chris coghill is so brave for playing such a dark role. He played such a great villain and I respect him for raising awareness about child abuse. He didn't deserve the shit he got. People should understand it was Tony who abused whitney not Chris he was a great actor and he derserves more respect than what he got
This was a riveting scene/episode. Gotta say, I have to give to Chris Coghill. He did a great job. Man he was he creepy. Who would want to play that role? Good job. And of course to whitney and patsy.
This got aired a few months after my abuser went to prison for what he did to me... exactly the same . Brainwashed me from 12.. thinking it was normal. Making me think it was love... only then I realised what he had done to me. It was very hard to watch though
It aired at the same time it was happening to my sister. We didn't know until a few months later and sadly he got away with it. Makes me sick to this day and because there was no justice it affected her years down the line.
Its utterly sickening to me how the abusers say that it was the victims fault when it was their fault to abuse them in those ways And make the victim do whatever they want and the victim is helpless to follow it I'm glad tony gets arrested thought he could get away with it well now he knows he cant get away with what he did and now he finally got what he deserved 😁 #savewhitney
This was when Eastenders was good. The soap tackles everyday issues that people could relate too. Now it's all horror music and badly scripted death scenes.
I’ve always appreciated Bianca’s role in this, even those she’s a total mess (understandable) And she’s questioning herself and whether Tony even loved her (again understandable) she doesn’t make it all about her and she didn’t blame Whitney, I love how clear she was at the fact that Whitney was a victim and Tony was an abuser, and she’s not falling for his bullshit. Amongst this chaos and confusion Bianca is the most level headed than many characters I’ve seen in this situation.
@DarzieP actually i thought it was really good...you wouldnt think someone sooo good looking would do it would you? Very good acting from all 3 of them!!! xxx
After years of watching I gave up when that Italian restaurant became a focal point. Anything that looked like real-life dried up and the story lines were getting worn out. It was the only show me and my cat would watch together. Maybe the theme song got her attention or something... I don't know. Maybe when she heard Bianca yelling "Rickeeeeee" she thought it was a cat howling?
C.O o Bianca was a consenting adult, she wasn't groomed and manipulated. Tony was with Bianca to get to Whitney. Dan didn't know Carol and Bianca were mother and daughter when he and Carol got together.
Why didn't Bianca take Ryan in aswell as Whitney? If she had her Brother around growing up she wouldn't have been half messed up as she was. Siblings should never be split up
''it was her fault she came on to me'' SHE WAS A KID!!! makes me sick when I hear people say those things trying to defend themselves!
I agree. It is deeply sickening.
See how quick he was to grass on her. Proves he isnt loyal/ ever loved her and is evil
I hate SICK people like this. THEY’RE SICK

ToughLoach Fella 101% agree,
I agree, so glad Bianca is returning. Even if it just for a short stint.

Patsy Palmer - especially - was incredible in these scenes. Absolutely believable.
OSCAR WORTHY I think
Back when eastenders STORYLINES WERE AMAZINGGGGGGGG !!!
And also helped a lot of people deal with alotttt of issues in their personal life
I agreed with you, nowadays they just recycle storylines which you have probably knew it from the classic episodes of EastEnders.
The penny finally dropped for Bianca she realised the man she loved was an absolute monster. Well done to the guy who plays Tony though must be hard to play a villian but his acting nailed this and so did Bianca and Whitney as well
I bet he got a lot of hate in real life for portraying a villain in EastEnders, but this is what I called good acting.
He actually regretted taking the role he said he’s career massively declined after this role, but said he was proud to be part of such an important storyline

Christopher Coghill
This is really heartbreaking but Bianca is the true hero here! 💝
I love how there was a comparison with Whitney locking herself in the bathroom to get away from Leo, when Bianca did the same thing to his dad
This is the soaps I miss great acting and storylines
Haha bianca's face at 1:27. Amazing acting from Patsy. xx

so glad Patsy Palmer (and Lindsey Coulson) returned to Eastenders, they need more talented actors at the moment,

She's coming back
Zameer Ahmed when? We all need to know
when Bianca found out why didn't she run to Whitney?? she has been through so much....
Probably because she's in so much shock she isn't thinking straight.
Pity Stuart and Mick weren't in it then. THEY'D have sorted Tony AAHHTT!
Yeah man
Stuart is just as bad as Tony
I wonder where Stuart and Mick were all those years ago and what they were getting up to before they lived in Eastenders

Absolutely!
And Chris Hansen comes out of nowhere

Yes but his character in Shameless was so boring, Fiona was better off without him.

Did he hurt her? Did it negatively affect her?
Yes of course it negatively affected her 🙄
Where is the episode where Bianca asks Tony about it?

I remember when Bianca used to fancy David..that one episode she asked him to kiss her and he kept kissing her on the forehead
