    I really enjoyed this informative series! I am looking to start a save with the philadelphia union and I had no idea how any of the league specific rules worked and I had no idea where to look for advice. Thanks for posting this series, I now can't wait to get involved in a new save and continue learning the rules by actually playing. Thanks so much man! :)

    Can you tell me precisely how to use TAM? Not conceptually what it is for, but actually what do I need to click on? I have a player on a DP contract that I should be able to bring down, but I can't figure out how to use TAM to do it. I just had a DP transfer fall through because of the DP limit, and I wasn't given the option to use TAM. Also, I have similar balances as you in TAM -- $3.9 million balance at start of the season, $0 available now. Thing is, I just finished my third season, and it has always said $0 available now but some millions available at the start of the season. I can never figure out what is happening.

      Hi - just bumping this question ... I'd love to know how to actually use TAM. When I try to sign another DP the option is not available ...

      @@kabirbostrom8401 I found a way to fix the TAM issue once and for all. Stop playing MLS and never look back.

    I like to learn something new and something different…. But in the back of my mind, I always get to the same conclusion: It’s unnecessarily complicated!

    What qualifies a player to be eligble to have their cap impact brought down? Since I noticed that you cannot bring down the cap impact of some players. Great video by the way.

      I honestly don't know, as in real life the only stipulation is that a team cannot reduce the contract of a non-DP more than 50%, which seems to be accurately represented. The player must also must have been in the league for at least one year.
      Here is my best guess: In real life, Targeted Allocation Money is used for players who make beyond the league maximum salary, but you can still use GAM on those players if you want. It appears that in FM you cannot use GAM on players who make above the league maximum, so it looks like SI didn't code this part correctly. I admittedly have not done an extensive amount of testing on that theory, but I am yet to find a player making about the league maximum that I could use GAM to reduce their salary on.

    I have been given GAM for selling players to clubs outside the MLS before, and other times I haven't, what's the rule for how this is awarded?

      Wikipedia says transfer fee must be over 750,000$ to receive general allocation money

      It definitely doesn’t work as smoothly as it should. It’s main use is buying down a DP contract to a Senior contract so you can sign another DP. You should be given the option to do it when you are signing a 4th DP.

      @@unclesamfm2821 I've got millions in TAM and it won't let me sign a 4th DP. Doesn't give me an option to buy it down or anything just gives me the message that the transfer is cancelled. Is this your experience? It's driving me crazy.

    Question for you on the salary cap. What would cause the Salary Cap IMPACT to be higher than the salary itself? I have one player on an SMS contract at $70K p/a, yet his salary cap impact is $118,000 p/a. Any idea why that would be? Does it have to do with signing bonus? I gave this player a very small signing bonus it certainly wouldn't account for a $48K p/a difference?

    • @unclesamfm2821
      @unclesamfm2821  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The salary cap impact can also include transfer fees, signing bonuses, etc. Anything you spend to bring the player in will affect his salary cap impact, unfortunately.

      @@unclesamfm2821 wow...transfer fees hit salary cap impact? I just bought a USL player for $300K on only a $88K p/a salary and his cap impact is $447K! This will drain my entire GAM to squeak him under. I was thinking this was a great deal but I guess it was actually horrible. Honestly, this doesn't even make sense though.....Even if I buy down his cap impact in Year 1 - it has the same super high impact in Year 2? That's like double charging me for the xfer fee? Given transfer fees impact salary cap, I guess it becomes pretty much impossible to buy players then unless you can somehow leverage TAM? I had no idea the constraints were this severe. It seems like the only way transfer fees don't hit the cap is if you buy someone and put them on an SMS.
