Sukuma Bin Ongaro was a gifted benga musician. I remember as ayoung boy' how we would roam the villages from our Sagam in Yala of Siaya county all the way to Ulumbi, Khumusalaba, Ugambri (Ebukambuli) and sometimes to Luanda in Bunyore, just to dance to his and Owino Misiani's beautiful music. Those were the days when we viewed ourselves, not on tribal or ethnic belongings but as one people divided only by administrative boundaries!
I can't fail to add my voice to all those who love sukuma bin ongaro music. I vividly this great songs of his during the late 70s and early 80s. Still fresh in my memories
Translation verbatim. I used to love ladies who speak English At the end I used to think I will marry them I also had the education One day I found a lady She was a lady you could not ignore I used to think she went to school I Suku finally married her On arriving home she couldn't speak English I loved Madilaine The lady Madi used to be smart We went to dance together Ongaro Suku I used to love her Speech I am unhappy today, because I never knew I would marry a lady who does not speak English in my home. I am suprised that I am speaking with the lady Madi on phone and she's responding in Luhya (what is this?). I am not happy,I refuse. This lady I had secured her an office job. I am now realizing she cannot speak with the White people in English. This shows that as parents we should educate our children. I found her with files indicating that she was educated, I am surprised not. I have divorced this woman. I want to ask around to ensure that I found an educated woman. I personally went to school to the point I felt satisfied. I am lucky, it seems I would have found this lady kept my books in a basket. "Appluase".
