just a heads up, death grips are chill as hell with copyright. the only song ive seen people have a problem with is lost boys for some reason but all their other albums theyre chill as hell about cuz they went independent after this album and the one before this one technically wasnt even released properly cuz it had too many uncleared samples lol.
They've had a guitarist on tour at concerts recently and he plays the vocal sample in the hustle bones chorus. The crowd went crazier that song than the rest of the entire show except maybe for Hacker. They're on tour until mid October see them if you can it's wild
As long as you go into death grips with the openness of their music growing on you beautiful things will happen. I would encourage you to check out some of their live performances it elevates their shit to a whole new level
loved this video so much, you warring with yourself whether you could enjoy it or not was hilarious, I’m glad you liked it and I definitely second everyone else saying exmil is a good next album. if you wanted a one-off track to check out from another album of theirs though, “Streaky” from Year Of The Snitch is a super catchy one I’ve had in rotation a lot recently
i saw these guys live this year and couldnt tell you what song was playing at one time haha shit was chaotic but the beats were loud and immaculate and he be screaming into that fucking microphone like he was a prison inmate. it was incredible
DG concerts are _unhinged_ , you rarely see a fan recording of one that doesnt end with the camera suddenly flying across the room from an errant limb flail 😂 I saw one that ended abruptly where the camguy explained in the description that the cam was fine, he just didn't know stage diving was allowed until everyone was rushing the stage so he quickly stashed the cam in his pocket to join the mob, cause he got priorities 👍 1:09:00 fun fact: the melody for this track (and a few of their others) is sampled from a collection of ringtones for an indian brand (iirc, i forget the name) of flip phones
If you like the higher energy stuff off this album just know that this is the "accessible" one, so get fuckin ready for the rest of their catalog you're gonna love it.
Death grips not comparable. They’re their own. Real as fuck. This is good example to separate fan base stigmas from music. There’s a reason why a lot of people like it cause theres good shit. The people that hate usually don’t listen deeply into discographies and rely on singles and hits.
Bruh, i´m telling you you´ll love bottomless pit, shit´s a lot more intense than this and there are a few hits over there, i think that it´ll be a good follow up to death grip´s discography.
It's dope to see a first reaction to this album like 10 years after it dropped. It took me over a year for it to click with me cause I thought it was just some hipster shit and I kept resisting to it but I let my curiosity take the wheel even though the shit felt like a car chase with the wheels falling off. You really gotta read the lyrics slow and try to get the big picture for each song. Like sometimes it's a vibe but it fits with the other concepts. Money Store in my eyes is about living the lifestyle of scamming/hacking and being addicted to the power but also getting crazy paranoid as the price you pay. It's also about being lost on the darkest parts of the internet and that shit negatively affecting your day to day but you just gotta learn to live with it. Like you start to feel too different and feel like you relate to people less and less. But the upside is you can find your tribe of people who really get you after all that Also the part about relating less and less to people connects to heavy drug use especially shit like ketamine, dmt, molly and a bunch of other shit. Every album has songs about tripping heavy on drugs
i pretty much would only listen to the same type of music before i found out about death grips, they introduced me to the concept of experimental music and it changed my world forever
It's so funny cuz the first time I listened to the album I wasn't really vibing with it until Hustle Bones and now I love this shit lol, reacting to that track didn't disappoint it goes so fucking hard.
Also man, I don't think you gotta see it live in order to like it, but maaaaaaan if you do, it's a fucking life changing experience I saw them after they released their double album The Powers That B, I can't even explain how much shit was going around with them at the time but one of the things was they had cancelled several shows on that tour right before showtime so everyone in there wasn't even sure if they were actually even gonna play, and they started almost an hour late When i say the pit was so intense and packed that there were times i was moving without even moving, as in i am 6 foot 5 and i was literally lifted off my feet and moved several feet over essentially being lifted by my waist because it was just a massive wave of people moving, i lost my shoes 20 minutes in and my feet was getting stomped on repeatedly but I was so filled with adrenaline I didn't even care, the show was like 2 hours long and i kept trying to take breaks but by the time I got to the door they'd be playing another hit and id be like aaaaaaaaaagh fuck 😭 and turn back around and dive back in, I've never been to a show where literally the entire floor was the pit, greatest show of my fuckin life man

if you’re into Death Grips and want to listen to them without the annoying BS (i personally like Double Helix but i understand songs like that aren’t everyone’s cup of tea), i would recommend listening to No Love Deep Web, if you prefer their more minimalistic instrumentation and MC Ride’s traditional-style rapping. i’d also recommend Year of the Snitch, which was my personal introduction to them and is their most melodic and accessible album imo. all the people who keep saying that TMS is their most “pop” album are fucking weird or lying lol. i honestly thought you’d hate The Cage since it took me multiple listens to appreciate it. a little tidbit about The Cage is that the weird synths in the background are police sirens spelling out an anagram for “cage” (E, A, G, E, C#)
