  • We know we aren't alone in the world when it comes to having an elderly or injured dog that needs help getting outside from our second story house so we are sharing our solution to this issue in hopes it will give others the help they may need for their dogs too.

What does it cost to love your aged pet? I wish there were more humans like you. I commend you for your love and kindness to your pet. It brought tears to my eyes when I viewed your video. Thanks you. You are more than an inspiration. I was researching on DIY dog ramp when I came across your article.

You are AWESOME for doing this for your boy!! Love knows no bounds!! Respect to you sir! I can tell your dog appreciates it!! My boy is 10, we just got a new house w 7 steep stairs to get in/out- I’m now seriously thinking of building one for him! I don’t mind assisting him up/down the 5x+ a day he’d need to go in/out BUT this looks to be more comfortable for the dog! Whatever it costs is small in comparison to the ease/comfort it can provide to our babies! An injury from time using stairs will cost more money and pain to our pet, this is a small price to pay! A ramp will do for now, until we build this!

I have the space to set a small elevator, but I don’t know if I can really place it inside. The next step is thinking about a ramp... oh gosh! More people like u! ;)

This is wonderful. I see this was a few years ago but I hope you still have your lovely dog. Also, although a while ago, I think a round peeping hole for him to look out would be nice.

It looks like it's been about 3 years since you posted this, at the time I am watching video that is. I am eager to know, how did your dog heal up?
It looked a bit difficult for him to maneuver the getting into and out of the elevator, he had to kneel down a touch, but I imagine that was figured out.
How is he doing these days?
Watching him walk around the yard his right back leg was so oddly wobbly. It was painful to watch. You are a truly good person, from all we've seen of who you are. It is clear that you care for and love your dog. There aren't enough people out there who can logically think through the reality that what you built was a waaaayyy better option than any ramp. It always amazes me at the severe degree of an angle some of the ramps that people provide for their dogs. Of course the dogs do use them. Our dogs would walk through fire if we wanted them too. Ever faithful and trusting as they are.
It brought tears to my eyes watching how he happily gets into the elevator sits down, turns and looks up at you.... with those eyes. Those good dog, old eyes. So sweet.
It is so beautiful that you built an elevator for your dog. I hope it's still being used today.
Compassion and kindness are becoming rare, glad to see such love here. Thank you.

Sure hope you did not have any issues with a winch designed for pulling not having any issues hoisting/lifting or lowering which it is not designed for as you were showing it was not designed for, as a hoist winch is designed for lifting-lowering as they have different braking system that will hold said load going up or down.
Anyone wanting to make something like this, get a made for hoisting type winch such as the lower cost ones offered from Harbor Freight or Northern Tool under various brand names capable of 250 single/500 double line up to 1500/3000 of lifting capacity and plug into any standard outlet with its own cord. These also come with an autostop bar which can not be bypassed but with some creativity with some metal tubing you can make and extension to said stop mechanism arm by typing the tube to it at one end and the lower end of the extension bent over for lift frame to push against and stop the lift automatically.
