Hi, new subscriber and new gardener also. I’m learning as I go along with watching others. I’m a believer of inexpensive ways to garden also❤

Morning Ms Iesha, I think sadly stores and others have found out we are a sucker for a garden item and so prices have skyrocketed. What used to be cheap or free to get now costs a fortune 😢. Up I look t it this way I don’t have any other hobbies or 😂😂 bad habits so spending money on a healthy hobby is ok. To give you an example cinder blocks here cost about $5 ea plus tax you used to find them free on Facebook marketplace before Covid.
Oh well enough of me gripping 😂, have a very Merry Christmas to you and your family, Ali 🧑‍🎄🎄🇨🇦

Using blocks like those sheilds your soil and roots from freezing and from scorching summer sun.

If you want to save even more money, just whenever you get free time dig deeper around that raised bed and toss the dirt uhhhmmm in your case sand into the raised bed. This will give you a lowered walkway which means less bending and later on in the future you can toss rocks down there for decoration. Creating that lowered walkway will also give you more soil to raise your bed higher before putting your good soil in the bed. Wont cost you anything but a little bit more digging.

Gardening has always been an expensive hobby.....the problem is the more you learn the better quality you want to put into your garden. Set a budget for each gardening year and increase it by 10-20% BUT....try to stay with the original budget. That way when you splurge on something you don't blow your budget.

@@rootelation486 I can save on garden beds and fruit trees. That's where all my money went, lol. I've learned to propagate my own plants, save my own seeds, make my own compost and fertilizers and so on. My one vego garden bed was nearly $400! I'm only buying fruit tree on sale and will be growing more from seed.

@champagnegardening5182 fruit trees can definitely suck you dry. I buy mine bare root and just wait. I'm in an HOA so I can't compost but I don't spend a fortune on dirt. I reuse all my dirt and just add compost to top off. I guess I spend about $200/ year on compost, and $300 on potting soil.....I do ornamental and vegetables so most of my budget goes to annuals.

@champagnegardening5182 it does but it doesn't. I appreciate not having to worry about mowing grass and cleaning my roof tiles. But at the same time i have to be a vigilante when the lawn service comes through to prune because they aren't allowed to prune any of my plants. I'm still nursing my Japanese maple after they dropped palm fronds on top of it.
