Don't discount the Awoken Augment Officers - they'll enable a new currency called transporter patterns for you faster than just about any other method which means yet more officers you can pull, eventually. You will however need to get through the grind of getting all the possible shards for them but pull them daily if you can.
Yes, I am aware of the TPs they can eventually yield. It's a very long journey, but once the faction reputation is maxed out, it's a bit easier to convert credits to shards. :)
