You can tell by the way he strummed it when he pulled it out of the box that he's played one before. He's experienced with a lot of instruments. Really talented.
He probably plays guitar so he is experienced. Also, ukulele is not a very hard instrument to play, and if you already play another stringed instrument than it shouldn't be hard at all.
