I have a Korg ARP 2600, and you finally gave me a reason to take this 100-pound monster out of its case...this channel is amazing. You were the synth/music teacher I always needed.
What I love about Anthony's videos is that he assumes the audience has some basic knowledge of synthesizers, and these days, a lot of people do. These mods make a lot of sense, especially in the context of the time. It would be interesting if one of the companies that make virtual 2600s would come out with an "Anthony Marinelli Signature Edition" with his mods, and some of his sounds.
Super convenient mods. Those envelope ranges and the separate trigger for the AR are also available on the behringer clone I own. Wish I had the octave swithchers and fine tuners.
My older brother past away 2 years ago, and I've been learning piano ever since. I bought a Roland Fantom keyboard which has a Jupiter 8, Juno 106, JX8-P, and SH101 expansion pack. I was a kid in the 80s... when my brother would listen to Thriller, 70s/80s synth pop/rock... Sometimes I dial in a sound on my keyboard that really transports me straight back to the 80s... and it's such a nostalgic experience. It's such a pleasure to watch somebody with such a profound level of experience openly share his knowledge for synth sound design. This is fast becoming my favourite channel.
One of the reasons why I always was a Moog guy and not an ARP lover, was the reason that there are no octave switches on the VCOs. You‘ve solved that issue beautifully!
Clever and handy. Would love to see a studio tour video sometime in the future....maybe some stories about acquisition of each synth. Cheers and keep up the good work.
Very usable, musical mods! Speaks to your intuitive sense as an audio artist and technical master. Question: Who performed this mod or, alternatively, who are some of the people in the late 70s who were performing these mods for musicians? Thanks very much.
I feel like this is how synthesisers like these were meant to be used, they were all about experimenting and creating different sounds. Modification is just an extension of that.
Amazing mods. Octave switching and offset are so useful. Got 1/2 1/1 2/1 on behringer 2600 envelopes but will extend the long now! Was going to add Sync and EG switches to Model D.
Wholes are drilled as i write this - mini jacks sockets are installed as i , write this - all my 25 + Synth`s are getting there own clean stereo channel , and each mixer are getting a dollop of pedals in Insert sub mix channels - and all my FM synth´s are routed into Arp- Dreadbox Typhoons, And Eurorack - all kind of Filters are getting Incoming FM - "IM not going FM without FILTERS !" 😂 You - sir, are not only a lengend - youre a genius Legend !
Smart mods! I have no prob doing mods to stuff, because I'll never sell them! I put a hard-sync and PWM control on my old MS20, and VCF control and external audio input on my SH101. I could care less about the resale value, those mods are amazing! Unfortunately, my 2600 is a re-pro (all SMD technology), so I don't think I can do any mods, or I probably would after watching this vid!! Love your channel!
I have a lovely 2600 which is unmodded and if I could afford to, I'd grab a second and have it modded. Some excellent additions to a great synth. Great example video btw..
Fantastic mods! I got the Behringer grey one a year ago or so, and love it. ( i have no other modular of any kind except software or internal mod matrix in menu diving eg inside the Alesis Micron) Anyway, it's got a 1X and 10X option for the evelopes and that's really useful, so it's interesting to see you have the 10X option here. But the preset oscilator octave switches, and two custom frequency pots per oscillator - that's just brilliant. Part of the whole charm of it I've found is tuning the oscillators and maybe having one a 5th above another then using the duophonic mode to have a separate playable pitch above. But changing the pitches around in a live setting would be the slowest part of the 2600 by far I think, so it makes sense you did that mod. It's pretty quick to get around otherwise. Anyway, cheers for the video :)
I remember a video with Vince Clarke with a ARP 2600 playing live. Today I think he live close to you why not a video with both talking about synths. Yes I now is a dream but who knows.
that's some amazing mods! Thank you for sharing, your videos are always inspiring. By the way, I'm curious about the mods on your Minimoog, I always wonder what are they for when it's shown in camera. A video about that would be awesome
Awesome! Ive been waiting for this video! Thanks so much! I need to figure out how to add that 10x pink switch mod to my Korg ARP 2600FS. Thats a game changer!!
Didn't expect the 2600 so incredibly short ENV-times. If a present synth had that I'd order twice to control if that behavio is "normal". Overall those mods are a must to any original 2600!
I seem to run out of mults, so 8 more is great. Adding oscillator sync and envelope time mods on the Behringer was a good idea, obviously inspired by ARP 2600 mods.
Hi 👋 😊 there is indeed an interest in this Synth. Especially with all dee clones out there. And yes, I own a 2600 clone, along with Korg, Auturia, Moog and yes.... the 2600 is a Behringer. But still a joy to play with . And why wouldn't you if you could! Thank you for sharing, I would love to see 👀 what kind of Horse Power your rig has..... perhaps when you feel up to it.... would you showcase more of this unholy power?!!!?!
Awesome!!! Such great mods! Anthony, could you make a video on your modded Mini D as well? Haven´t found any videos (or audio demos) showcasing how sync sounds on the Mini. I have been contemplating mod my Mini D to have sync.
Thanks Anthony, very smart, practical mods. Does anyone know if schematics for these or comparable mods are available? My Behringer isn't precious - I'll drill some holes.
Great stuff, I should have never sold mine. It came from a radio and used to make weird noises for adds. The keyboard was almost unused but the synth was beaten up, did not sound as yours so I sold it 25 years ago, my envelopes were not snappy as are the Odyssey or SH 101, so was no good for techno ( or my unit I gues). With what I know now, it needed a full recap and refurbishing. Will buy another next year or so. I hope you get a lot of royalties my friend. I received a Distressor today, gonna try it! best from Spain.
Very cool mods! I would like to see how you actually use the Sherman Filterbank because people (at least on the internet) usually just crank the input knob to the max and call it a day. It definitely capable of more.
"Its okay. Its functional, but..." ABSOLUTELY. I had a 2600 during college daze when I worked at Synthony Music in Scottsdale AZ. Whether SW or HW, there's always the author saying, "Oh, just one more thing." Just one more thing. The difference between all those other snare drums and something falling off some shelves. N'est pas?
you sir are an absolute gem. thank you for showing us this. I'm a little hesitant to drill holes into my Korg FS 2600, but wow those are some necessary ones, especially those octave switches. If I were to consider it, who would be able to do this for me? Rob Rosen?
That is super cool, I've never seen one with that many mods. I want to add a few mods to a DX7 mk1 I have. Other than octave up + down, Upgraded chip, LED screen what else should I look at?
I heard the story told ARP went bust over their attempts to produce a polyphonic Avatar, the Centaur VI, while the Avatar itself already wasn't very popular.
I have a question about the very first sound you hear on "Beat it". I have a Yamaha MODX keyboard which seemingly has all the classic DX7 patches. There's a sound called "Beaten Gong" which is Exactly that sound on the front of MJ's Beat it. It's a kind of drone...was that an original patch on the DX7? because it IS exactly that sound...and I wonder what original name of the patch was because "Beat it" made that sound super famous. Just curious if you know ;-)
How about inviting Kevin Toney and showing us how to make that ARP sound featured on Mysterious Vibes by the Blackbyrds? I admit, it's because I want to use it myself, so it is pure self interest🙂, but still a lot of people here might find it interesting. Keep up those cool videos. I hope the guys from Arturia are watching your videos Anthony. They could learn a thing or two! Best regards
Ace add-ons that make it definitely quicker to work with ! But I wonder why you haven't got a mod for sync on at least one of the VCOs (or did I miss something ;-) ? I own a Grey Meanie (actually has the same mod as yours for the AR) and a Tonus 2600 that both don't have it either, but on my TTSH (that actually sounds really good) I had sync done for all 3 VCOs and that's an incredible source for new sounds 🙂 Love to watch your videos 🙂
I’ve been bringing my Korg clone of the Odyssey for over a year-and-a-half as of 10/3/2023. I love the sound, but I have to patch somewhat different sounds between a couple of the songs I play it on. I occasionally wish I had the old programmer built by Sequential Circuits before the Prophet 5. If something like that existed, it could alleviate my temptation/inclination toward getting another synth (I already own 7 keyboard synths, 2 modules and a Theremin). The memory issue is why I think Behringer may have blown it in their approximation of the Odyssey by including the sequencer instead of patch memory. I would prioritize patch memory over the sequencer anytime. Others would probably say that would offset the authenticity of the architecture, but I beg to differ. Like the sequencer doesn’t? As of October 2023, the two synthesizers that tempt me (for next year after a whole year of combatting GAS) are the ASM Hydrasynth Explorer and the Sequential Take 5. I might get neither of them, but both of them are kind of reaching out to me for different reasons.
I forgot i saw this before, a few good ideas for the ttsh... i got an opportunity to get an odyssey fs lately, i was thinking of trading it for something else at fisrt, but then, thinking the options out compared to the ttsh (2600), in fact i'm thinking about hacking the odyssey in the same way, getting thru those switches to catch mod and audio ins and outs, and make an external panel; a modded odyssey with mod/audio ins and outs, will be a great way to at add options to an Arp modular system, it'll add a bunch of functions to the system, an LFO, sync, options for having mores osc's and so program some polyphony with the proper controler or cv processor, highpass... that's gonna be some fun, now i need to find the time to do that... oh AND the odyssey FS has the 3 generations of odyssey filters... TBH, i dont understand why not done b4 because imo, it's a much better option that pilling up two 2600's, and addind options by "semimodularising" an odyssey with the way those switches are installed, is not that complicated of a task.
For the life of me I can't understand why all three of the most prolific cloners of the 2600 (Behringer, Korg, and Antonus) didn't implement some of these ideas. The lack of octave switching on ARP gear was always a bit galling to me, and an envelope time multiplier seems like a no brainer to me. I do like that some clones add hard sync and an additional LFO. But octave switching would be even more appreciated.
You just made that 2600 immensely more gig-able. Incredible stuff!!!
Gig-able, hahaha. Love it! 😁
Nice mods. Make sense.

You re the Synth Goat !!! We need an Interview with Quincy Jones, Anthony! In your studio creating something..
Super convenient mods. Those envelope ranges and the separate trigger for the AR are also available on the behringer clone I own. Wish I had the octave swithchers and fine tuners.
Anthony is the realest!! Dropping jewels like no other..keep on!
My older brother past away 2 years ago, and I've been learning piano ever since.

One of the reasons why I always was a Moog guy and not an ARP lover, was the reason that there are no octave switches on the VCOs. You‘ve solved that issue beautifully!
Wow, the octave switches…genius! Wish Korg had incorporated your mods into their reissues.
Clever and handy. Would love to see a studio tour video sometime in the future....maybe some stories about acquisition of each synth. Cheers and keep up the good work.
This was brilliant. I hope your mods make it into production. Maybe as an extender module?
The Arp 2600 was never really on my radar. Now it evolved to one of the greatest synth out there.
it always was-
I meant for me :)
@@jerrymcpommes8473 sherlock,- 😘
Really cool mods! I absolutely love the envelope switch! 😍
Now you just need to mod it to time travel!
Anthony inspired me to get a 2600, well the one I could afford, got a Blue Marvin 2600 from Behringer and love it!!
Excellent video 👍. Behringer should do an Anthony Marinelli signature edition B2600 with these mods!
Very usable, musical mods! Speaks to your intuitive sense as an audio artist and technical master. Question: Who performed this mod or, alternatively, who are some of the people in the late 70s who were performing these mods for musicians? Thanks very much.

Amazing mods. Octave switching and offset are so useful. Got 1/2 1/1 2/1 on behringer 2600 envelopes but will extend the long now!
Was going to add Sync and EG switches to Model D.
Thanks for sharing the details of these mods. If a manufacturer made a hardware 2600 clone with these mods, I would buy it.
Thanks for sharing Anthony, very cool stuff! Hugs from Italy!

After looking at all these videos: it's so inspiring and a real thumbs up for a man knowing his synths inside out (y)

Extremely inspired, Anthony!
The outro tune reminded me of the Terraria Soundtrack, but much more analog :)
Thanks for the wonderful, insightful videos each week.!
This looks a good instrument.it’s an amazing synth. thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you Anthony, great stuff, cheers from New Zealand.
that's some amazing mods! Thank you for sharing, your videos are always inspiring. By the way, I'm curious about the mods on your Minimoog, I always wonder what are they for when it's shown in camera. A video about that would be awesome
Wow, the octave switches alone make up all the difference. Wish I could get a mod like that
Very interesting explanation. Humblest and greatest synthesist ever :)
Awesome! Ive been waiting for this video! Thanks so much! I need to figure out how to add that 10x pink switch mod to my Korg ARP 2600FS. Thats a game changer!!

You´re a true wizard of the synthesizer. Excellent video!
You was brought to me by Dr Mix, so grateful. Sharing is caring thank you
Great video! Super useful mods! A little surprised to see no sync mod. Thanks for doing this!

Nice mods🙂
My MiniMoog Model D has a few, dedicated LFO, octave up switch , trigger switch that will let it drone, glide 2x.
Awesome!!! Such great mods! Anthony, could you make a video on your modded Mini D as well? Haven´t found any videos (or audio demos) showcasing how sync sounds on the Mini. I have been contemplating mod my Mini D to have sync.

I have a very serious question: Where do you get mini to 1/4 inch cables!??! I am in dire need of a dozen :O
Fantastic video, as always! I’d love to see how you integrate the eurorack stuff with the 2600.
Very cool mods! I would like to see how you actually use the Sherman Filterbank because people (at least on the internet) usually just crank the input knob to the max and call it a day. It definitely capable of more.

Hi Anthony, thx a lot for this very interesting video !!! Do you remember who did these modifications on your 2600 ? Did you sent it back to factory ?
Thank you Anthony! When I build my 2600 clone it will have your mods added.
Wow Absolutely amazing and handy! Thats an ARP-Stage edition :)
Really useful mods. Thanks for showing us.
you sir are an absolute gem. thank you for showing us this. I'm a little hesitant to drill holes into my Korg FS 2600, but wow those are some necessary ones, especially those octave switches. If I were to consider it, who would be able to do this for me? Rob Rosen?
Rob is My Man !!
Really nice! Now I have to get another one! 😃
That is super cool, I've never seen one with that many mods. I want to add a few mods to a DX7 mk1 I have. Other than octave up + down, Upgraded chip, LED screen what else should I look at?
Very interesting. Love Long delay ability. Hope I will apply it to others instruments by myself.👍
As always, incredible !
Amazing video and really interesting mods.
Love the tune which plays towards the end as background music. Where can I hear it in full? 😁 ♥ 🎶 🎹
Thank you for sharing the creative process! Love your videos. ⚡️
The master of the 2600.
Amazing! If Alan Pearlman had thought to include these mods in the original device, maybe ARP wouldn't have gone bust?
I heard the story told ARP went bust over their attempts to produce a polyphonic Avatar, the Centaur VI, while the Avatar itself already wasn't very popular.
Actual usable mods... a refreshing change
Thank you so much for sharing this!
I Like the sound track very much!

Fantastic stuff Anthony
Sweet mods, thanks for the explanation.
Loved the music at the intro!!
I was going to suggest a mod....paint the whole 2600 pink.
But seeing that you have that one pink switch-cover.....well, then never mind.
So cool!! Have you done anything to trigger the alternating switches?
cool mods. Did I notice one or more OG ARP patch cables?
This is very cool, so glad we have you make these videos and look forward to more conten
I have a question, why do you use such an old MacBook with Synclavier, the MacBook appears to mid 2000s model
Ace add-ons that make it definitely quicker to work with ! But I wonder why you haven't got a mod for sync on at least one of the VCOs (or did I miss something ;-) ? Your videos are always interesting, thank you to share with us your huge experience about those amazing instruments :)
what is an extender do arp2600 to ms20? its a treat to show us, the kids will be amazed.
thx for sharing this incredible knowledge to us
So, what contact cleaner do you like for faders?
DeoxIT D5
Forgive if this question has been asked and or covered. But what are the mods that have been made to your Mini Moog?
dude that’s a pimped up 2600!
Thank you 😊!
I want the same mods on my Behringer one! Do you think that it can be possible? 😎
Wouldn't the octave issue solve by itself having an extended octave keyboard?
I’ve been bringing my Korg clone of the Odyssey for over a year-and-a-half as of 10/3/2023. I love the sound, but I have to patch somewhat different sounds between a couple of the songs I play it on. Ty
Did you do the mods yourself or did you have a technician and do you have a secondary Arp 2600?
I see the sherman from belgium do you need this filterbank often ?
Super review..! Cheer's
Fun video to watch
I love your content. Synths
Hmmm how do I do the octave switch mods 🤔
Also, thanks for yet another amazing video 🎉🎉
