First off, I love your voice. Next, this was a very well put together video. You have some great points that I completely agree with. Real talk, I legit don't know if I'm a furry or not. I genuinely mean that. I did the Brony thing (and still go to pony cons) but that's more for hanging out with friends and sentimental reasons. Does that make me a furry? I don't know! I also like animals and anthro characters a LOT. They're so much fun and they're great for storytelling. Ultimately, I went into anthro movies poking fun at furries in a loving way (though I'm sure some furries still don't like that and that's understandable). It's become an inside joke for my channel so I'm just running with it. For all I know, maybe I'm on some path where I end up a furry convention someday. I'm not against it! A few of my close friends are furries. Again, I don't know what I am and I hope folks believe me when I say that. I guess time will tell! I'll tell ya this though: I REALLY like weird stuff and Bronies and furries definitely fall into that category and I love it

IMO, a furry is anyone with an interest in the whole anthro animal thing, every other aspect of the fandom from having a fursona to going to cons is secondary. I completely understand people not wanting to take on the label due to whatever reason, from the fandom's reputation to not feeling like they're really a part of the community and being more of an outside observer but in my book if you fit the basic definition you're one of us. (PS: Love your videos, keep it up!)

Because like The Odd1sOut I believe Piemations has had videos on the trending tab, and idk if saber ever did at one point, but regardless if you watched each of these people's channels this isn't surprising at all, to say the least they're anthro-inclined. I'd understand Piemations more since he almost exclusively shows his fursona Pretzel on Twitter very frequently but still.
reasons why people don't mind furrys: they are chill people that like being weird, they make some blursed content, comics, movies, memes, etc. reasons why people don't like furrys: rainfurrest. literally every negative stereotype the community had is in this one word.
It really sucks that the furry fandom has such a stigma against it, but I do agree with Beta’s point: people can be furries but decide not to join the fandom itself: and it really sucks when people try to force people into it(we coulda had them-!) Heheh, joking- but for real, just because Saberspark and James may be furries by definition, it doesn’t mean they absolutely must immediately get a fursuit and embrace it the way others do: and even if they did, it’s their lives! It’s sorta similar to liking a video game: you still enjoy the game and what it offers, you just may not be interested in taking part of the fandom yourself, and that’s okay! You do what makes you happy, but just know on the other hand, there’s nothing wrong with being a furry! The more people who can be furries and not be weird about it can help normalize furries and maybe not stop, but slow the stigma against them! ^^
imo it just gets annoying when I constantly hear people screaming about if these guys are furries or not. if they're furries, they're furries, you know? if they're not furries but just an ally who likes to play some parts in it to joke around or something, that's okay! i absolutely dont know why people are going absolutely nuts whether sabersparks or theodd1sout is a furry; literally nothing's going to change in the end other than they'll have a heap ton of furry fans. i like these guys but i could give less a dimmadarn if they're a furry or not, lol.
I have the lingering feeling that they want to know a definitive answer whether or not their favorite content creator is a furry or not, so they know if they should keep following them or not. Some people - for whatever reason - have this incredible hate towards furries (usually due to misinformation or lack of knowledge) and would 'disown' the people they subscribe to as soon as they say "yes"

He probably is a furry, but is one of those people who is just not public and open about it. He will speak highly of them tho or make funny skits regarding them alongside the "I SWEAR I'M NOT A FURRY" skit just to keep people guessing.

I'm by no means a furry ,but I really enjoy talking to them. Y'all are great peeps and I am interested in how y'all do things. (Like I'll never get a fursuit ,but damn y'all are creative and talented making those things) I do like the anthro animal things in animation; hell I just finished beastars and BNA a couple weeks back; and I also have some more animal like characters for my stories. I just don't see myself as a furry though I fully support all y'all peeps who do choose to be one and would love to hear how it is for ya!
Well said, Beta! I remember that time where i considered myself a "spectator" of the Fandom, where I just liked everything they made. I think the creation of my world using Anthropomorphic Animals helped with me accepting I'm a furry. To be honest, I think more people should see the Fandom as a hobby than a lifestyle/mindset, for a few obvious reasons of course. I honestly don't see the big issue with having a problem, as it's more on the hater's problem for being so petty towards a hobby of all things. Anyways, well said, Beta!

The world I'm talking about takes place in regions inspired by Eastern Culture and is in a relative 1950s. I do hope to get to the 60s and maybe the 70s. I was also gonna talk about that kind of movie and TV aesthetic (if you've seen the old 007 movies or Star Trek: The Original Series), but that's something I should focus on later.

I’ve always considered the “furry accusations” as lowkey harassment. Like, people have to enjoy and indulge in furry and furry-like content without being harassed and made fun of.
As I am into anthro stuff since I was a little kid, I never considered myself to be Furry and do not want people to think that I am one. Do not want to be describet by people as furry as well.
You know, its very sad sometimes when you discuss some furry topis and then suddenly "Oh god, imagine being one of them." It makes me feel that being one is something bad.
Me: creates a bunch of hooman characters with decent stories behind 'em Someone else: "Cool." Me again: Makes a single character that so happens to be an anthropomorphic animal / humanoid animal with as decent backstory as rest of my characters Someone else again: "Oh so you're a furry?" Gods really love this video, Kinda describes how ive felt about the fandom for the last year or so. Twitter is literal HELL for one and the community\people can be tiring as hell sometimes but besides all that. I still LOVE what the fandom is at its core, ill never stop loving the creativity in art, digit, traditional, suits, characters and what the hell ever, i love it all and always will. But there really should be no issue with people liking those things and simply not wanting to be apart of the community, and just liking those things! And in my opinion, being a furry is simply a label you put on yourself, like calling yourself a weeb or like a fan of whatever culture or fandom for that matter. SO JUST LET PEOPLE LIKE THINGS WITHOUT HAVING TO DEDICATE THEIR LIFE TO IT.
I definitely understand why tons of people don’t want to be part of the fandom. I’m apart of the fandom because I love how people are super sweet and supportive of you, and stick up against the shady business in the stereotypical view of most of the public. I just wish people wouldn’t treat us like we are terrible disgusting people. The attack on a convention a few years back, bullying online, and harassment, it’s something people do because they are too insecure about their own hobbies or just don’t like to let people enjoy something because they don’t understand. All we are asking is for you to respect us and treat us with basic morals, and we can live in peace.
For the longest time I didn’t identify as one as I was mainly partial towards exotic mammals, reptiles, anthropods, birds, amphibians, aliens, and monsters before I found the basic wolf-like canine boring. I was even afraid to admit this to some other furries since some of voice discomfort of any depictions of anthropods and hairless animals. Even felt kinda out of of place half the time for that reason. Nowadays, I’m slowly getting over that feeling.
Hell, I had no desires to own a fur suit or go to furry cons as it never really interested me. I don’t consume a lot of furry media like I use to and half the time feel like when furries overhype anything with anthro characters in it, my interest for just plummets down into nothing. I feel like the only overtly furry thing about me is my fursona (they’re a kappa) and my enjoyment of furry art.

While I fully support furries, the reason I’m not a furry is use because I’m scared. I’m scared of the hate and discrimination I could face. I still live with my family and I don’t know wether they’re against furries or not, but I can’t afford to risk it.
I feel like the one thing you didn’t talk about that also hinders the ability to being called or being a furry, is the fact that like....what even is a furry??? It’s hard to call someone and or themselves a furry when they don’t even know what a furry is.
For the last few weeks ive been asking myself if I'm a furry after watching beastars and ever since then ive been wanting to actually draw furries since I hate drawing people but part of me is afraid of that furry label since I'm already a weeb and people who are anime fans get enough criticism as is but I just feel like like I should be able to enjoy like anthropomorphic animals without the hate and judgement
You should do what makes you happy and what you enjoy, don't let other people around you bring you down because if something you have a general interest and liking towards. Heck am a weeb as well but am also very much into the whole punk rock/rock scene and am a furry. Don't let others make your decision on what you want tho be happy and take pride in your interests even if others don't like it and want to sway you away. Be yourself! 👊
I totally agree with what DoodleNoodle said! Whether you choose the label or not is up to you. As for the interest itself, there's nothing wrong with that and it really does suck that some people make it out as a moral crime. All you can do is be you, and stand proud (accidental Jojo reference?)! What others think of you should come second to what makes you happy, but I do understand your fear. My brother is still anti-furry even though I’ve openly admitted proof that furries aren’t fetishes and have personalities. My school teachers accept me for being a furry, everyone accepts me for being a furry, accept my brother still doesn’t
I have paraded around both the brony and furry fandoms, and those are literally the only places that'll accept my random misty yet somehow realistic optimism. I like to think realistically, and I like to act optimistically, and the fact that I can do that around you makes it a wonderful place to be, and I can't thank you in the fandoms enough for letting me do that. so basically, here’s what i extracted, combined with my own knowledge: furries are mostly avoided because of their bad reputation with... unusual experiences. however, this stereotype is false, as a major chunk (at least 90%) *doesn’t* do this. the people who are much different than actual furries, and can sometimes be told apart. But there’s also the factor of people who find fursuits odd or sometimes scary, which can turn people away. my reason personally is that i would get *really* nervous. all the time. if i were to become one, however, coming out would be a challenge. when a new secret amasses, usually people will refuse to share, so that isn’t much of a problem until later, when the pressure becomes too great. starting with someone you can trust is a good start, but it might turn out worse. that’s all i have to say. sorry to end on a bad note, i’m not good at conclusions. This popped up in my recommendation, and I won't lie I kinda only watched because the thumbnail had me curious. Then I watched it and yeah, this is actually a very good video. Being a part of the brony fandom I've had lots of people assume I'm a furry or pick at me because they think I'm a furry and because I am a brony. I don't really call myself a furry, but I've gotten use to being called one at this point because I like certain ocs that people make in the furry fandom and like artists that draw stuff for the fandom. It would definitely be nice though for people to let other people enjoy the things they like though and not be judged for it.
I don't know about Saber Spark. But I have met him several times before at Ponyville Ciderfest up in Milwaukee. His interests and tastes are definitely similar to what you see in the furry fandom. But he for sure is into the Brony fandom. But more or less for the friendships he has and things the show has meant to him. Sometimes we Bronies are called light versions of furries. For me personally I have been to one furry convention for the first time last year at Midwest Furfest. (The world's largest furry convention) It was a lot of fun. I didn't really meet anyone, as I went more or less, just to see what a furry convention was like, and how it compared to our Brony conventions. They are quite similar in many ways. But I had fun. I went to see who are some of the "bigger furries" are in the fandom. So I did go to one panel that was hosted by "Adler The Eagle". But all in all I just went to be more of a observer. I have always loved furry artwork and have been big into cartoons my whole life. But would I call myself a furry? Maybe? Perhaps. I just haven't done like fur suit or anything. But I do like what the furry and Brony fandoms have to offer. And I would go again to Midwest Furfest. Maybe next time I would try to meet someone. And maybe next time I would look into things further. I work a lot though. So i'm never up to speed as much as die hard furries or Bronies are on stuff within the fandoms. I haven't watched a lot of stuff. But I do go to these events just because I like the atmosphere and the overall fun I tend to have. Plus I don't do things on my spare time much anyways besides travel around in my car on weekends. Just usually work and home or local traveling to different towns for fun. So these events are a great way to get out of the house and break up my routine.
The only thing I don’t like about furries is that some are creepy. And some just look pretty freakin weird. I don’t really disrespect them. I also don’t really like the freakin sex addiction, jk I hate the sex addiction thing.
I am just so thankful this info exists. I about had a existential crisis when somebody called me a furry because I make comic books and movies about the adventures and exploits of a Upright walking, American Talking, Anthropomorphic Tyrannosaurus Rex. I came here after your video about the kid who got scared of a furry came across my feed. I watched it and I'm glad you called out Chaya Raichik (the person behind Libs of Tiktok). I decided to check out your other stuff too because you seem like a fun person. I probably would have been a furry if i had known about the fandom in my youth in the 90s-mid 2000s. I lived sort of a sheltered life through no choice of my own, so there's a lot of culture that I just wasn't exposed to. I always loved anthropomorphic animals. I still do, but not to the point that furries do, and I don't feel drawn to the furry fandom. It's not the stigma that keeps me away, since I'm openly trans and gay so I'm used to stigma. I just don't have the interest that I would have had as a child. Part of me wishes I had gotten into it and developed that interest, but now in my 30s, it's just not something I feel enough interest and curiosity in to get involved. I enjoy seeing furries doing their thing, though, because I like to see people being happy. I'm impressed by their art and their fursuits. One thing I do wonder, though, is if I had made a fursona, what would it have been? Probably an alligator or crocodile, honestly. Steve Irwin was my idol as a child.
When you think about it from a content creator perspective, making furry-adjacent content while denying being a furry is a pretty effective baiting tactic. It gets everyone riled up and leads to lots of clicks and comments. It’s a gimmick. I’d prefer to use the term furry for people who actively identify as such and have a more positive relationship with the community.

Why? ahem *It's that person's CHOICE whether or not to be a part of that fandom or not, not yours.* Are you not aware of the stigma against them? Choosing to not be labeled something is, really, no ones business but their own. Do I draw art? Yes, do I write? Also yes. Was I in theatre? Yes, but do I CALL myself an artist? No. Know why? Because I don't want to. And that's MY choice. Probably doesn't make sense, but, look at it this way; I'm guessing you're a furry? It's why you're fighting this hard about it. Imagine for a second you weren't, and didn't want to be, but you happen to like the movie How to train your Dragon, and drew pictures of toothless. Now imagine a random person coming up to you saying; "hey! You're drawing an animal!! You're a draggie! You want to have sex with a Dragon!!" Would YOU want to be considered a part of ANYTHING that had to do with that? You can keep drawing toothless, and not want to be called a draggie. And that would be FINE. You can do what you like, and choose not to be called whatever label they're using. It astounds me how much that has to be explained to the furries. People shouldn't have to wear rainbow furrie shirts for people to enjoy theirs people's work, regardless what they call themselves, or don't call themselves.

As an asexual young furry I'd have to say I've been duped. I went into the fandom thinking I wouldn't see porn everywhere or things like that because of other young furries (or furries in denial) saying that the super sexual furries are a minority, but I'd have to disagree. I get why people don't want to be seen as a furry or join the fandom, not even just because it's super sexual, it may not interest them, or they just don't really WANT to be one. Anyways I don't know where I was really going with this but yeah.
if you're going into adult spaces you're going to see adult content. it would be like wanting to get into anime and expecting not to see adult content. furry amino is one of the largest furry communities on the internet and is completely sfw and meant for minors.

Hey, just wanna add this comment, Furries are people too. Yes alot of our fandom is LGBTQ, but if you want more information please go watch "The Fandom" on Ash Coyote's channel. It's about an hour long and explains alot about our community. It will clear many things up.
As one of the people who aren't furries I feel like there are four distinct categories of "Not a Furry"; - The obviously not furries (AKA normal everyday people). They don't even need to deny it because nobody would think that they were. - The people who just aren't furries. I'm in this category myself. I personally tend to like the furry community because I consider the higher than average concentration of weird/lewd/degenerate/creative/artistic people to be a positive thing and as such I may know things/memes/etc that would make furries assume I am a furry. That said I have no particular affinity for anthropomorphic characters/animation. I've never had a fursona even after spending many years around the fandom. As such, I'm just not a furry. - The people who do not yet self-identify as furry (but probably will eventually). This will generally be younger/newer people. The kind of people who are using anthro avatars/drawing anthro art/any other furry related activity. They may not be fully aware of the fandom or may be slightly in denial but will generally either end up identifying themselves as a furry or in the category of; - The furries in denial. This'll be people who hide/deny the fact that they are furries. They probably want to avoid all the baggage and toxicity that can come with the label. Maybe they want nothing to do with the sexual side of it so they refuse the label entirely. Maybe they are afraid of the backlash they'll get over it since furry hating has become a fairly widespread meme. Who knows. It's unfortunate but it is.
Well beta let me explane why people don't want to be furries you see theirs this thing called the U.S.M.C and you get to go and pew pew some people in the middle east where its nice and warm and you get to ride in a armored car with a 50cal on the top where as your stuck in some convention with socially awkward people
I joined the furry fandom I love the arts aspect of it. I used to imagine myself as a horse when I was younger. It actually got me back into drawing and art. I've always liked anthro characters. I eventually want to start going to conventions. I kind of feel like I've been in it for years just didn't realize it.
Just because you like this one game/movie/series/etc. doesn’t automatically mean you or anyone else should force you to join and devote your life to its ‘fandom’. Do whatever you’d like and enjoy what you want to! You like this one thing? You like it! It doesn’t mean you’re immediately a part of its ‘fandom’, it just means you simply enjoy what it has for you- like a hobby, pretty much!
This is what I tell people all the time. Furry is a Self defined status; if you want to be a Furry, you are one. If you don't want to be a Furry, you aren't one. Simple. Respect others' decision on that matter too; you can't force them to be anything they don't want to be.
I’ve mostly just got into calling myself a furry because I’ve really gotten into anthro stuff liking a lot of the furry art and have even considered having a fursona and am fairly new to the whole being a furry thing but I don’t identify with the excessive hugging or touching. I’ve always had this channel and just started getting into doing regular videos and while my channel is mostly Disney themed, specifically parks themed, I’m still minorly a furry and may end up being a bigger one later on but for now
I have a great friend (which is a furry) who has increased the intensity of the facination & interests towards the furry community that I have & yes I love furries (in a good way) & your videos interestingly enough facinats me even more than ever before & I hope you keep up the good work 😎👍

Ultimately, I went into anthro movies poking fun at furries in a loving way (though I'm sure some furries still don't like that and that's understandable). It's become an inside joke for my channel so I'm just running with it. For all I know, maybe I'm on some path where I end up a furry convention someday. I'm not against it! A few of my close friends are furries. Again, I don't know what I am and I hope folks believe me when I say that. I guess time will tell! I'll tell ya this though: I REALLY like weird stuff and Bronies and furries definitely fall into that category and I love it

IMO, a furry is anyone with an interest in the whole anthro animal thing, every other aspect of the fandom from having a fursona to going to cons is secondary. I completely understand people not wanting to take on the label due to whatever reason, from the fandom's reputation to not feeling like they're really a part of the community and being more of an outside observer but in my book if you fit the basic definition you're one of us. It’s sorta similar to liking a video game: you still enjoy the game and what it offers, you just may not be interested in taking part of the fandom yourself, and that’s okay! You do what makes you happy, but just know on the other hand, there’s nothing wrong with being a furry! The more people who can be furries and not be weird about it can help normalize furries and maybe not stop, but slow the stigma against them! ^^

I have the lingering feeling that they want to know a definitive answer whether or not their favorite content creator is a furry or not, so they know if they should keep following them or not. Some people - for whatever reason - have this incredible hate towards furries (usually due to misinformation or lack of knowledge) and would 'disown' the people they subscribe to as soon as they say "yes"

Well said, Beta! I remember that time where i considered myself a "spectator" of the Fandom, where I just liked everything they made. I think the creation of my world using Anthropomorphic Animals helped with me accepting I'm a furry.
To be honest, I think more people should see the Fandom as a hobby than a lifestyle/mindset, for a few obvious reasons of course. I honestly don't see the big issue with having a problem, as it's more on the hater's problem for being so petty towards a hobby of all things.

Gods really love this video, Kinda describes how ive felt about the fandom for the last year or so.
Twitter is literal HELL for one and the community\people can be tiring as hell sometimes but besides all that.
I still LOVE what the fandom is at its core, ill never stop loving the creativity in art, digit, traditional, suits, characters and what the hell ever, i love it all and always will.
But there really should be no issue with people liking those things and simply not wanting to be apart of the community, and just liking those things! And in my opinion, being a furry is simply a label you put on yourself, like calling yourself a weeb or like a fan of whatever culture or fandom for that matter. SO JUST LET PEOPLE LIKE THINGS WITHOUT HAVING TO DEDICATE THEIR LIFE TO IT.
I definitely understand why tons of people don’t want to be part of the fandom. I’m apart of the fandom because I love how people are super sweet and supportive of you, and stick up against the shady business in the stereotypical view of most of the public. I just wish people wouldn’t treat us like we are terrible disgusting people. The attack on a convention a few years back, bullying online, and harassment, it’s something people do because they are too insecure about their own hobbies or just don’t like to let people enjoy something because they don’t understand.
All we are asking is for you to respect us and treat us with basic morals, and we can live in peace.
For the longest time I didn’t identify as one as I was mainly partial towards exotic mammals, reptiles, anthropods, birds, amphibians, aliens, and monsters before I found the basic wolf-like canine boring. I was even afraid to admit this to some other furries since some of voice discomfort of any depictions of anthropods and hairless animals. Even felt kinda out of of place half the time for that reason. Nowadays, I’m slowly getting over that feeling.
Hell, I had no desires to own a fur suit or go to furry cons as it never really interested me. I don’t consume a lot of furry media like I use to and half the time feel like when furries overhype anything with anthro characters in it, my interest for just plummets down into nothing. I feel like the only overtly furry thing about me is my fursona (they’re a kappa) and my enjoyment of furry art.

I have paraded around both the brony and furry fandoms, and those are literally the only places that'll accept my random misty yet somehow realistic optimism. I like to think realistically, and I like to act optimistically, and the fact that I can do that around you makes it a wonderful place to be, and I can't thank you in the fandoms enough for letting me do that. Evidence of that very thing is my username (That Autistic Brony in case I change it). anywhere else people'd be screaming at me for being offensive, which is actually offensive, because they usually say I'm faking it when I say I actually am autistic, also, I don't know why I'm sharing this here, I just needed it off my chest somewhere, and you seem cool, so thanks for letting me into the fandom.
so basically, here’s what i extracted, combined with my own knowledge:
furries are mostly avoided because of their bad reputation with... unusual experiences. however, this stereotype is false, as a major chunk (at least 90%) *doesn’t* do this. the people who are much different than actual furries, and can sometimes be told apart. But there’s also the factor of people who find fursuits odd or sometimes scary, which can turn people away. my reason personally is that i would get *really* nervous. all the time. if i were to become one, however, coming out would be a challenge. when a new secret amasses, usually people will refuse to share, so that isn’t much of a problem until later, when the pressure becomes too great. starting with someone you can trust is a good start, but it might turn out worse.
that’s all i have to say. sorry to end on a bad note, i’m not good at conclusions.

This popped up in my recommendation, and I won't lie I kinda only watched because the thumbnail had me curious.
Then I watched it and yeah, this is actually a very good video. Being a part of the brony fandom I've had lots of people assume I'm a furry or pick at me because they think I'm a furry and because I am a brony.
I don't really call myself a furry, but I've gotten use to being called one at this point because I like certain ocs that people make in the furry fandom and like artists that draw stuff for the fandom.
It would definitely be nice though for people to let other people enjoy the things they like though and not be judged for it.
I don't know about Saber Spark. But I have met him several times before at Ponyville Ciderfest up in Milwaukee. His interests and tastes are definitely similar to what you see in the furry fandom. But he for sure is into the Brony fandom. But more or less for the friendships he has and things the show has meant to him. Sometimes we Bronies are called light versions of furries. For me personally I have been to one furry convention for the first time last year at Midwest Furfest. (The world's largest furry convention)
It was a lot of fun. I didn't really meet anyone, as I went more or less, just to see what a furry convention was like, and how it compared to our Brony conventions. They are quite similar in many ways. But I had fun. I went to see who are some of the "bigger furries" are in the fandom. So I did go to one panel that was hosted by "Adler The Eagle". But all in all I just went to be more of a observer. I have always loved furry artwork and have been big into cartoons my whole life. But would I call myself a furry? Maybe? Perhaps. I just haven't done like fur suit or anything. But I do like what the furry and Brony fandoms have to offer. And I would go again to Midwest Furfest.
Maybe next time I would try to meet someone. And maybe next time I would look into things further. I work a lot though. So i'm never up to speed as much as die hard furries or Bronies are on stuff within the fandoms. I haven't watched a lot of stuff. But I do go to these events just because I like the atmosphere and the overall fun I tend to have. Plus I don't do things on my spare time much anyways besides travel around in my car on weekends. Just usually work and home or local traveling to different towns for fun. So these events are a great way to get out of the house and break up my routine.

This isn't a great title for a video, and neither is it's content. It's just furry gossip that tries to ride the line of drama, with a clickbait thumbnail to attract Piemations and Odd1's fans to grow numbers. Another Furry TH-camr falls victim to attention seeking and number garnering. :(

I came here after your video about the kid who got scared of a furry came across my feed. I watched it and I'm glad you called out Chaya Raichik (the person behind Libs of Tiktok). I decided to check out your other stuff too because you seem like a fun person.
I probably would have been a furry if i had known about the fandom in my youth in the 90s-mid 2000s. I lived sort of a sheltered life through no choice of my own, so there's a lot of culture that I just wasn't exposed to. I always loved anthropomorphic animals. I still do, but not to the point that furries do, and I don't feel drawn to the furry fandom. It's not the stigma that keeps me away, since I'm openly trans and gay so I'm used to stigma. I just don't have the interest that I would have had as a child.
Part of me wishes I had gotten into it and developed that interest, but now in my 30s, it's just not something I feel enough interest and curiosity in to get involved. I enjoy seeing furries doing their thing, though, because I like to see people being happy. I'm impressed by their art and their fursuits.
One thing I do wonder, though, is if I had made a fursona, what would it have been? Probably an alligator or crocodile, honestly. Steve Irwin was my idol as a child.
When you think about it from a content creator perspective, making furry-adjacent content while denying being a furry is a pretty effective baiting tactic. It gets everyone riled up and leads to lots of clicks and comments. It’s a gimmick. I’d prefer to use the term furry for people who actively identify as such and have a more positive relationship with the community.
The real question is : What are you gonna do if someone you THINK is a furry is ACTUALLY a furry ? UwU him ?

Imagine for a second you weren't, and didn't want to be, but you happen to like the movie How to train your Dragon, and drew pictures of toothless. Now imagine a random person coming up to you saying; "hey! You're drawing an animal!! You're a draggie! You want to have sex with a Dragon!!"
Would YOU want to be considered a part of ANYTHING that had to do with that? You can keep drawing toothless, and not want to be called a draggie. And that would be FINE. You can do what you like, and choose not to be called whatever label they're using.
It astounds me how much that has to be explained to the furries. People shouldn't have to wear rainbow furrie shirts for people to enjoy theirs people's work, regardless what they call themselves, or don't call themselves.

As an asexual young furry I'd have to say I've been duped. I went into the fandom thinking I wouldn't see porn everywhere or things like that because of other young furries (or furries in denial) saying that the super sexual furries are a minority, but I'd have to disagree. I get why people don't want to be seen as a furry or join the fandom, not even just because it's super sexual, it may not interest them, or they just don't really WANT to be one.
Anyways I don't know where I was really going with this but yeah.

if you're going into adult spaces you're going to see adult content. it would be like wanting to get into anime and expecting not to see adult content. furry amino is one of the largest furry communities on the internet and is completely sfw and meant for minors.

Hey, just wanna add this comment, Furries are people too. Yes alot of our fandom is LGBTQ, but if you want more information please go watch "The Fandom" on Ash Coyote's channel. It's about an hour long and explains alot about our community. It will clear many things up.
As one of the people who aren't furries I feel like there are four distinct categories of "Not a Furry";
- The obviously not furries (AKA normal everyday people). They don't even need to deny it because nobody would think that they were.
- The people who just aren't furries. I'm in this category myself. I personally tend to like the furry community because I consider the higher than average concentration of weird/lewd/degenerate/creative/artistic people to be a positive thing and as such I may know things/memes/etc that would make furries assume I am a furry. That said I have no particular affinity for anthropomorphic characters/animation. I've never had a fursona even after spending many years around the fandom. As such, I'm just not a furry.
- The people who do not yet self-identify as furry (but probably will eventually). This will generally be younger/newer people. The kind of people who are using anthro avatars/drawing anthro art/any other furry related activity. They may not be fully aware of the fandom or may be slightly in denial but will generally either end up identifying themselves as a furry or in the category of;
- The furries in denial. This'll be people who hide/deny the fact that they are furries. They probably want to avoid all the baggage and toxicity that can come with the label. Maybe they want nothing to do with the sexual side of it so they refuse the label entirely. Maybe they are afraid of the backlash they'll get over it since furry hating has become a fairly widespread meme. Who knows. It's unfortunate but it is.

This is the most serious talk about being a furry.
I joined the furry fandom I love the arts aspect of it. I used to imagine myself as a horse when I was younger. It actually got me back into drawing and art. I've always liked anthro characters. I eventually want to start going to conventions. I kind of feel like I've been in it for years just didn't realize it.
Now i'm gonna wait here.

This is what I tell people all the time. Furry is a Self defined status; if you want to be a Furry, you are one. If you don't want to be a Furry, you aren't one.
Simple.
Respect others' decision on that matter too; you can't force them to be anything they don't want to be.

I’ve mostly just got into calling myself a furry because I’ve really gotten into anthro stuff liking a lot of the furry art and have even considered having a fursona and am fairly new to the whole being a furry thing but I don’t identify with the excessive hugging or touching. I’ve always had this channel and just started getting into doing regular videos and while my channel is mostly Disney themed, specifically parks themed, I’m still minorly a furry and may end up being a bigger one later on but for now
I have a great friend (which is a furry) who has increased the intensity of the facination & interests towards the furry community that I have & yes I love furries (in a good way) & your videos interestingly enough facinats me even more than ever before & I hope you keep up the good work 😎👍
