Abandoned Luxury Holiday Resort - The K Club Barbuda - Urban Exploration

  • We visited Barbuda in February 2014 during a sailing trip. The K Club used to be a multimillion luxury holiday resort for the chosen ones. Lady Diana with both princes used to come here for holiday. Most of the Club is still intact, no signs of vanadlism visible. This is probably due to the fact that Barbuda is only visited by sailors and that not by many as the Island lies pretty off track the usual sailing routes in the Carribean. The resort is easily accessible from the beautiful Lady Diana Beach - there is no security patrolling. In more than 48 hours we spent in Barbuda we have only seen 4-5 sailing boats visiting the island ( at least where we anchored ) The resort is abandoned for 11 years but the website is still in use: www.kclubbarbuda.com
UPDATE 2015 - seems like Robert de Niro himself bought the property in order to reopen th eclub in the future! Great news! www.travelweekly.com/Travel-Ne...

Nice pics, nice music but not together. It would've been nice to enjoy the emptiness, sounds from the sea, screeching sea birds, snapping of twigs, that you experienced.

WOW!! brings back memories...worked on the golf course in 1995-96..was there the 1st time Princess Di was there, could have had my picture taken with her & didn't (wish i had)...there probably isn't much to tell it was a golf course anymore..but i think you showed the front of the building that housed the equipment & fertilizer, etc...glad i found this...memories of going to "town" on friday & saturday night...what fun times!

also remembering what the K Club looked like after the hurricane in Sept. '95 that sat on the island for 24 hours.(i was in MA.on a 1 week break from the island that lasted a month before we could fly back)..not a leaf or coconut or bird to be seen. dozens & dozens of bags of fertilizer ruined..not to mention the buildings that had to be rebuilt. i can't begin to tell you what that was like....it took me days before i could get over the shock of the devastation..BUT...we came back & Princess Di visited in Dec..al i can say is..i wish i had a video camera on my shoulder to record the 10 months i was there...experience of a lifetime..Had a great golf pro there (Mr. Dillhole...LOL)..and a great Christmas party with the Pinto's...ah, memories
Thank you so much for the video..

Antigua is a favorite place of mine. I just can't stop going back over and over again. As good as Maldives and that is saying much. I LOVE the Maldives. I also visited Barbuda a couple of times. MAGICAL place. The finest, white sand and bluest water I have ever seen.

Fantastic job guys. Thanks for taking me back down memory lane. You did really good. I had the pleasure of working there and meeting Lady Diana and Lady Ferguson and the young William and Harry. The property is exactly what I remembered except for the overgrown trees of course. Hopefully, someone will make something of it. This is perhaps the only place in the world that you would have had the beach all for yourself. Excellent!

Thank you for the incredible tour. Down the way is Coco Point Lodge established by my late husband William Cody Kelly. Much history. His grandchild may be in charge of it now. I haven't been back since January, 1997. He died April 4th, 1997. I often think about the wonderful people of Barbuda. I'm reading a book called The Codrington Chronicles (early history).

Hi Silesian...I spent many a winter at the K Club...thanks for posting. I was there at the beginning with Geneeral manager Paul Himmelman...in 1990. Many stories to be told from those beaches, cottages, bar , restaurant, tennis courts and golf course.

The owners got old and its a long story. It was an amazing place and I miss Barbuda and the people. Next time you are in Barbuda go to Uncle Roddy's, Rodman George was the bar manager for a few winters when I was there. He will be able to tell you a lot of the history. I just looked at a video from the Club. When I get a litttle time I will uplink it and link to this post. Happy Sailing!

we were there back in 2012, and found the original K Club Sign laying on the ground,...Needless to say, the beaches--from the island's north west coast, all the way down to the tip of Coco Point, are nothing like you've ever experienced. Blinding white and pink sand, the consistency of baby powder, and technicolor water--in shades of aqua, ultramarine, turquoise, and indigo, Other worldly, really. The vibe there at the abandoned K Club is analogous to the rest of Barbuda...its an almost somber place---not like the Caribbean you'd imagine with steel drums, warmth, and big smiles--but what Barbuda lacks in soul, it makes up, in spades, with its BEACHES. I've only been to two other beaches which come close to the beauty of Barbuda--but still can't touch it (Playa Flamenco in Culebra, and a tiny island off of Salt Cay, in the Turks and Caicos.) Barbuda is a trippy place, challenging to get to. But if you are on a quest to find a PERFECT beach---the one in your dreams, that you just haven't found anywhere else on the planet, despite those lists in the travel books, blogs, etc., BARBUDA is IT.

I was there in 1992/1993. I was part of the Bel-Air Management team who were hired by Madame Krizia and Aldo Pinto to take over the management. I have pictures of the library, the bar, the company plane, under the umbrellas on the beach. The beginning portion of the video ( after the bungalows) was the housekeeping buildings. I lived in the rooms portion of the resort ( I was the food and beverage consultant from Hotel Bel Air). If you want photos or information please respond to this post and we will make contact. It was a magical place and the highest end of luxury during its hey day.

The person making the video said none of the bungalows or any of the facility look like they were broken into and that's surprise them. Well I spent 4 months as the golf pro at the K Club in 1998 and became good friends with so many on the island. Of course there are no break ins. Everyone knows everyone and no one could get away with crime on the island. I think there are only 1200 inhabitants on the island and they are wonderful people. I hated the K Club because the owners were total racist and treated the employees terrible including me. They wanted me to stay 2 more months but 4 months was enough with how I was treated so I quit. I sure would like to get back there because I love the people.

I wish I could add my photos, but unfortunately I cannot in this application. It was a magical time, the KClub plane, the skiffs to go exploring in the sea, an amazing tennis pro, chefs from Cipriani's in Italy and me, from Hotel Bel Air- everyone brought the best of the best of the hospitality world to this resort in the 90's.

Amazing place and great footage. The song was getting old lol but it was a good song to be listening to while watching this. Sad that this place lays wasted but at least nature hasn't destroyed it. Any idea what all the track in the sand are from? Looks like a truck or 4 wheeler had been there recently.

Just seen 1 bungalow. Where's the others! Okay I can see some more! Why can't we see inside? Strange architect! Not interesting at all. Place beautiful tho, could make it a little paradise for a community of Christians for worshiping the Lord, living a life of holiness. Now that home is beautiful. Why could we not see more of it???
