I thought the game was kinda charming, in some way like one of the last of a dying breed. It just feels like those Dreamcast/early PS2 era Japanese games that had their last hurrah with Dead Rising 1 (and in spirit kinda live on in Yakuza and Disaster Report). It has a ton of issues, but there's just some schlocky ernest fun to it that I can't really fault. Oh yeah, anybody else getting Half Life 1 flashbacks with those hit-sounds? It sounds like Ray turns into a scientist for a second there. Also, Ray must be one of the strongest beings on the planet, given how a 10 foot tall mantis would be one of the strongest creatures there is!

Hard to believe that I've been watching SGF since Highschool, and have since graduated college and worked a career for 4 years... I could say so much about SGF, but all in all I think these are some of the best LPs online. I know I've definitely watched the IllBleed playthrough more then four times at this point...
I started watching in college. Since then I graduated, worked for several years, decided I needed a career change and got a doctorate in a totally different field. SGF has somehow been a constant in my life. He really is a super great friend.
We had a blast watching this live, and every viewer's biggest take-away is the game's surprise fetish. But there are many more layers than just that -- we loved how the game respected women, we loved the game's SFX and audio design, it's amazing OST, and it's writing. Most importantly though, we all love Mike, our best and only friend in this world.
This is up there among the best Punishment Streams. The timeloop aspect really was fantastic- mostly because I fell asleep- woke up four hours later- and we were in the *exact* same place we were when I passed out. Nothing could compare to that confusion. Anyway, final report: Snake Plisskin could absolutely Escape from Bug Island. He'd also probably use the time temple to drastically alter the course of human history for the worse.
With the timeloop; Harry is saved because It seems like you cleared the mantises out a lot faster, and then were there imedietly when ape happened to give him the old one gun salute. Mike is saved because destroying the nest makes the spider attack you instead of destroying the bridge, so he can hang on for longer. But in the sandworm fight they just kind of? Arbitrarily arn't killed?
I feel asleep around three hours marks during stream (late night/early morning for me). Woke up for the end. I could lie and say it gave me weird dreams but i think the fact that recently ive been suffering from increas in nightmares and plainly weird dreams but slept like a baby to the sounds of bug island amazonian lizard women and time travel on belzebub island is much funnier.
I love the sounds the mantids make. They sound so adorably gleeful and the way they take time to get to you increases the "aw hi friend" factor. They're so happy to kill and attack people, love that for them.
I love that in the caves SGF is like "oh get barbed wire, I guess I could have upgraded the bat" and then in the next area he just gets a whole fuckin' medieval halbed.
Ah, the gorilla died when the statue of Beelezbub fell on it and when the rock crushed Beelezbub you can hear the Gorilla's roar. I guess that's something like subtlety. Other things you can find in the caves are badges that lower damage and samurai swords.
Happy Anniversary, SGF! Congrats on finally returning to and then escaping from Bug Island! I've been watching since the Illbleed LP, so thanks for the last decade plus! Well, back in the hole, I guess.

You know, at the time, we've rented this game (alongside Ju-on on Wii) and I actually loved it, so much so I had an hard time finding it for myself until I took it from another rental store selling it. I actually did a few runs of it. Now today, uh, I guess it leaves some to be desired, but it's also pretty niche, I liked the B-or-so Movie vibe of it, as I remember an old movie I liked about teenagers on an island of giant insects, and it has kind of a tongue-in-cheek humor that makes me think the developpers (sort of) knew what they were doing, [When asked about weapons, I'm not sure now, but Ray responds with:] "I've been killing giant insects with a bloody stick!" Perhaps one day I'll do a Challenge Let's Play of it again, where I rely solely on base weapons (Stick, Rocks, & Basic Flashlight), and actually using Rocks on the final boss leaves him heavily incapacitated for a while, so again, they sort of knew who would be playing their game.
Wait, wait, wait! So, what was the "something good" that collecting those purple crystals was supposed to bring about? Those never actually got used for anything!

Lol I got this game when I first got Wii and I had no appreciation for awful games at the time and returned it. Now MANY years later I regret it and really want to revisit these hilariously bad games. Omg it looks so magnificently terrible! I must get this game
Mutated Robert was surprisingly meaty and gross for this candy-coloured Wii survival horror game. And what was it about mid-'00s survival horror and jet-skiing off into the sunset anyway?
Re-watching this playlist to kill anxiety, uh, will the other streams be added? Namely boobsy and Illbleed. Either way. The creatures in this game are fun, they should replace the characters, it'll be twice as good.

Well, I maintained a straight face through this year's "Stream of Something that Shouldn't Have Ever Been Made," right up to and until I saw Blue-Light Special Science Geek_stereotypev2 get smeared by ... a Ghoul-rilla? Any hopes of serious plot beats were washed away in my head by images of someone spraying a can of Raid on King Kong.
Everything about the sound design in this game is so bad... DJ Mantis, the music, the screaming, the sound effects, the volume balance... Not that the rest of the game is good, but I think the sound really takes the award.

While the English voice acting in the game is terrific, SGF filling in for the non-VA'd lines makes it perfect
