    I am so blown away by this. I had an uncle who everybody called a dreamer, crazy, etc., and he was the one who introduced me to the concept of earth ships. Always wanted one, but haven't gotten there yet. This is just a level of amazing I've never seen before. Congratulations on a brilliant project! Cheers

      I live in the mountains of northern New Mexico not far at all as the crow flies from these Taos Earthship homes. In the small town of Pecos. I moved here 15 years ago from east Texas. You can definitely do it but it helps if you know some people here. I was told by many people before I moved here that without a lot of money it's impossible to do it but I proved everyone wrong. But it took hooking up with the right people. If you are still interested in moving up this way if you haven't already since you posted this 3 years ago I might could be of some help. Don't hesitate to ask if you want.

    The cooling system is brilliant. People with conventional homes can put this principle to use by opening a window o nthe north side of the lowest level of their home during hot weather, and also opening a window on the south side of the uppermost area of the house. Any door in between these windows should be open, of course. While not as efficient as the metal tube going through the earth berm, the natural convection currents will allow much of the heat to escape, and draw in the cooler air.
    If the window on the north side is shaded by trees and of foundation shrubs, and is also located in a basement, this method will provide even more cooling. A fan in the upper window pushing the hot air outward will increase the airflow.
    Since hot air rises but cool air does not, on super hot days the A/C can be run with these windows still open, reducing the indoor air pollution and affecting the efficiency of the A/C little, if any. By releasing hot air, instead of trying to cool it, one may even be able to save electricity, but it depends on the structure, its surroundings, and other details. It is worth experimenting to see which combination of windows works best in a particular home, and at different times of day.

    ugh, I have built 3 of these very very simply and with reused materials and there is NO way to build these for under $10,000.00 because you must take into account the car maintenance on your car if you are off grid, the fact you are the one doing the labor which if you are NOT working, your daily needs...best of luck to you and I am all for earthships, but it needs to be made clear.....these are NO simple build or task.

    this is so amazing! The "job" you do Dylan! To show to the world each end every off grid possibilities. Its just what i do. I were researching a lot about earthships, tree houses, tiny houses on wheels, mini eco houses, hobbit houses, rv-s, camper vans, caravans, static caravans... All is so amazing. I really cant stand the system anymore, im stuggling to do it over and over again every day...and i keep asking myself every day was it the last one?...but not there yet... At the moment i live in London im only 24 and a nanny with no saved money and no driving license.. and trapped in the big city life's problems such as incredibly high rent and i cant live my soul's passion. I have the goal set that i definitely will escape the system with going off grid. I dont know how im gonna do it but im gonna do it. Such an inspiration when i see videos of likeminded people.. keeping me up and keep going.

      The beauty of this system is that the black water and grey water would be filtered and sent to the aquaponics garden to fertilize the plants. Those plants would then ensure a food supply. Everything about this system is meant to allow you to be completely off-grid and completely self-sustainable. Some earthships also use the methane as a heating source for cooking.

    • @ginadelsasso288
      @ginadelsasso288 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YourMajesty143 the black water is used for out door botanical cells that are for landscaping. These plants are not meant for consumption. The grey water is used indoors for food production and to clean the water to use for the toilet.

    Is there a centralized resource for learning about the legalities of this sort of idea? I know that there are various legal complications dealing with building codes and the like. I have read and studied enough to be confident in starting the process of building and et cetera but unsure of the likelihood of losing the work put in to that point...

    Great way to re-use dirty old tires .... way better than ending up in a black smoke fire that burns to hot to put out and smolders for months. Hey here is a question. If a fire ignites a tire in a wall will the whole wall go up eventually? I doubt it really would happen ever but jeez that's why there's code anyway
