Our parents told us speak Spanish at home, English at school, they always said you will need it in your life. We came from Oakland and moved out of State up north to Washington. Listened to hip hop, rnb and Mexican music, todo to que pendeje with the times.... it was rough for some of us, teachers or white people being asses cause we spoke Spanish.

No they don't look at Chicanos as less . Chicanos be looking at paisas as less. Because they don't speak English.

The more languages you know obviously is better . Having more dialog in a certain language helps if you want to learn or practice. People may see someone that looks straight Mexican with a big ole nopál on their forehead and assume they speak Spanish and when they don’t it throws them off like what?? Good topic , reminds of what Edward James Olmos said in the movie Selena .

Piyalli / Saludos carnal. This is a good topic. We need to peel back the layers on this. I'm a cultural educator and I would humbly appreciate the opportunity to have a deeper open discussion on this. Congratulations on the podcast and bringing these topics to light. Ometeotl

There are many generations of chicanos and chicanas that grew up like big mister and never really learned Spanish. It’s Not our fault that we didn’t get taught the language but also we’re in the United States we shouldn’t have to learn Spanish fluently unless the individual wants to get better at the little spanish they do know or they want to learn to speak it

Mexican is a nationality but having brown skin or having that native blood in our veins is what makes us native to this land. No white person can take that away from us

Calling someone a "paisa" was never disrespectful..
pai·sa·no or "paisa" -a person who shares one's place of origin; compatriot. Informal. a pal; buddy; compadre

Crazy well my jefe didn’t get told but refused to teach us scared we would be targeted speaking Spanish. Reality is Spanish is a European language .now if you said you can’t speak Nahuatl so I’m more Mexican than you then that would make sense but not Spanish that’s my opinion brotha

Not all of Mexico is mixed that’s a false narrative. There’s millions of full indigenous Mexicans alive and well.
