Thank you for this fascinating interview between two highly intelligent and articulate people. I've been watching Michelle's ministry videos and American interviews and I loved hearing her talk to a Ghanian. Her observations on the differences between Americans and others give real food for thought. Her on-screen Ghana persona is slightly different from her on-screen American persona but Michelle's true spirit is still strongly evident. She is an inspiration.
I think she makes a lot of sense and has answered the questions intelligently. As an African living in the West, her observations about the difference in mindset is on point. She is not putting black Americans down, and certainly a lot have come a long way in realizing who they really are and that our history did not start from slave trading but from great civilizations of which we are proud. She has truly adapted to Ghana, accent, expressions and all. love it. I am sure she drops that though when she travels abroad. True world child.
I am an African American and what she is saying about the myopic view and the slavery mentality is correct. Slavery was an institution for more than 300 years.The last know lynching of a black man was in 1981. Jim Crowe was not outlawed until 1965. Thus, we are really less than 50 years out of legalized slavery. We have made numerous strides and advancements, yet the fight is not over. I have seen Michelle numerous times and she is true through and through. Regarding her accent, I spent summers in ATL and when I return it is easy to pick up the accent(southern draw). So, it not that she is being phony it comes natural.
