"President and Chair" Bread and Puppet Theater

Bread and Puppet Theater celebrated their 50th anniversary with a special performance at The Sanctuary for Independent Media on Thursday October 17th, 2013. Their show included "President and Chair," a performance created in 1992 that pokes fun at presidents, election campaigns and puppet shows. One of the longest-lived theatrical companies in the country put on an amazing puppet performance!
Founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann, Bread and Puppet Theater originally tackled concerns of rent, rats, and living conditions of the neighborhoods of the Lower East Side of New York City. Today, productions have developed into more complex theater pieces, integrating music, dance, and more.
In 1974, Bread and Puppet Theater decided to pack up and move from the city to a farm in Glover in Northeastern Vermont. Bread and Puppet Theater has a wholesome and powerful language that can capture anyone's attention--a great form of entertainment for adults and children alike.
