  • The Red-backed Flameback, also known as the Lesser Sri Lanka Flameback, Sri Lanka Red-backed Woodpecker, or Ceylon Red-backed Woodpecker (Dinopium psarodes) ( ගිනිපිට පිළි කෑරලා), belongs to the Picidae family of birds. Endemic to Sri Lanka, it is found throughout the island except in the far north. Some classifications consider it a subspecies of the Black-rumped Flameback.
This bird thrives in a variety of habitats including subtropical or tropical dry forests, moist lowland forests, and mangrove forests, as well as human-altered environments like home gardens. It is observable from distances of up to 1,500 meters. While it is predominantly found in the dry zone, it also demonstrates a preference for humid environments.
