I've been keeping aquariums for 30 years but I've struggled with low tech planted tanks. I really like the aquasoil in the bag idea. Thank you your videos have given me a better understanding of low tech without dirt. Since I started keeping aquariums so long ago it's difficult to break away from the old norms of keeping an aquairum.
Did MD share a link to background film he is using on his tanks? I know in this video he painted back of the tank. I have scoured his previous vids with no luck so far.
this is the first tank of yours that I wasn’t completely sold on until the end - it was okay, but then you added the leaf litter and those stems and the extra lilaeopsis at the end and pulled it all together. looks incredible!! here’s to more apisto babies!
same, it's all about just taking action. I always say don't be crippled by perfection. Make a start and adjust as you go and see fit. I found this applies to far more than just aquascaping.
You have a great grasp of your audience 🤣 "he only says it now" doing audience commentary as well 🤣🤣🤣. Nice plant selection 👍 love the build. Good depth. 😍
I really enjoyed your video. I have always felt that the more natural you can make your tank look the more at home fish will feel in the aquarium. I see you are using many sticks that look like you may have collected from the ground locally. I have a huge magnolia tree that sheds lots of small branches. They are brittle and usually, I just take them to the fire pit and break them up and throw them in. I have been watching a lot of videos about leaf litter and adding tannins to the tank. So recently I went out leaf collecting. Now, these magnolia branches have a lot of character in the respect that they bend all around and are pretty cool looking. Over the next Summer, I will be experimenting with them in my tanks. I applaud your creation and your enthusiasm. I have been an aquarium hobbyist for 62 years. It is a great hobby and I can understand your deep interest. It just never gets boring and there is always more to learn.
I always appreciate your "Organized Chaos" approach to scaping. Maybe a little heavy on the plants for many, but they are natural filters and far more visually appealing than more boxes or sponges. Interesting to see the Cories so active in the mid and upper water column, not something I have seen. Goal should be to breed (not buy) more Cories for this and the future Corie tank,.... modify the plants / tank to naturally maximize egg and fry survival, if that is possible. Keep up the good work, love the tanks and your eye for design / lay out.
Love this. I really appreciate your naturalistic styling. I've attempted to do this over the years by sheer accident really. My fish are happy and I'm happy so win win. I don't use half as many plants, just three in each tank. Satisfying my fengshui ideas then 3 pieces of driftwood. I've just done a 130l with a large mopani root and hornwort for my pretty guppies. Inspired by you
ty for making the video. being a Christian it is hard to watch many things. you are my morning coffee and breakfast watch. you are so funny. but i am missing to see your boys. you guys interact so special. I agree with your changes. snap with your intellect in your art.
thanks Aaron, there are many way better at me, but I feel like I've got something that would appeal to new people and make them feel they could have a go at all this.
I love seeing the long term design process of this - like, it's ok to revamp over and over until you're happy with it. It's not a set in stone scape once you put it in the first time. Let your scape evolve as you feel it needs to. Gorgeous tank, once again.
I really enjoy your channel. Very informative, and thoughtful insight on aquascaping.. You've inspired me to get into planted tanks. Thank you!! 😊 👊🏾💯🤙🏾
The end of day one, I wasn't impressed with the scape.. It was missing something and just looked so drab. Then you came back and added more plants and took out some leaves and made the "right" changes. Now it is just a proper MD style tank! Impressive.
I like the clean aquascape look for than the accurate naturalistic looks but this one is definitely my fave naturalistic tank you've done. Curious to see its developments!
Hey MD. The females turn yellow when ready for matting. Because she was moved, she "lost" that color, but is not stressed. Otherwise she would be whitish. Regards and keep up!
The white background really throws it off it needs to be more “dark” that’s why it looked so bright even with the floating plants shading it. Still a great scape tho 👌🏽
Agreed but then I usually don't care for white backgrounds period. I feel like it detracts from the scape and vibrancy of the plants. Personal opinion though.
I just got 4 of the Venezuelan corys. All came alive and still doing well. They're in a 55g with sterbais, fairy and paleatus corys. I just need gold lasers to complete my collection...tank size limitation
Awesome some babies made it, my recent apisto pair have been laying eggs but they seem to disappear after 3 days or so, not sure what happening or who’s possibly eating them
I was wondering if you preheat the water before you put the fish back. It seems like they went from warm water to cold water pretty quickly ? I"m brand new to this. I have always wanted to keep fish and know absolutely nothing about them.
love this tank, about to set up a tank for my Apisto pair, but I'm getting conflicting info on pool filter sand. did you have trouble with diatoms in the beginning? wondering if I should just let it leach first before adding plants and fish and just do lots of water changes to let it all balance?
hey man... great channel you have here.. its nice to see someone promoting low tech tanks to show the rest how its done. I do believe in the concept of eco tank where once established, the tank takes care of itself.... My question is, do you ever use liquid ferts?

hey how are these fish doing? thinking of doing a similar setup for my apistos?
also do you really recommend that filter for long time use?
The feeling that there is more than 60 cm. This is facilitated by the author's unique design. The combination is professional.
....and also my tiny shrunken head in the thumbnail 🤣
The tank is taller than a average 60cm tank you can get at a petstore that’s why.
I WAS LITERALLY LIKE MD SHOULD'VE UPLOADED BY NOW, EXCITED AS ALWAYS
I could hear you thinking it...

Update!
Love this setup. You build the most amazing scapes on TH-cam. Even better than the high tech ones from the aquascaping pros.
Saturday mornings are ALWAYS the best MD content 👌👌
You have a great grasp of your audience 🤣 "he only says it now" doing audience commentary as well 🤣🤣🤣. Nice plant selection 👍 love the build. Good depth. 😍
Coffee and MD new tank. Lovely! HongShloy to you from sunny Bournemouth!!

I never get tired of seeing these new builds
Great build in the end! And lovely to see such action from the fish.
Looking forward to the cory tank!
You're an inspiration when it comes to fish tanks and got me back into the hobby. Keep up the great work!

MdDarling I love your stuff - you are so self-deprecating about your skills but I think your wofk is ammmazing - love love love it!!!
Great video, your enthusiasm is so infectious😁. I was moving plants around immediately I finished watching you work🤣. Thanks for sharing.
The overgrown foliage probably kept the babies alive by allowing them to hide.
Should use that trick in breeding tanks.
Beautiful MD Great job. Love from Malaysia
The idea with the filter bag is awesome!

That male Apistogramma is one of the most beautiful fish I have ever seen

You are truly a master at this craft.
thanks Aaron, there are many way better at me, but I feel like I've got something that would appeal to new people and make them feel they could have a go at all this.
I’m so keen for the neon blue Acara aquarium, crack on MD!!
next weekend hopefully :)
Those Apistos are stunning.
LOVE the way you set up the wood!

I'm getting used to these videos coming out every other day! I expect them now haha. Hoping you can keep it up! Love your videos MD.
Oh my…those corys are stunning. Gorgeous tank as always😊
Absolutely! Setting up natural setup is the best way to keep fish! 😊
The fish really colored up nicely. Hope you get more babies.
Здравствуйте.Вы очень позитивный человек,аквариумы просто шикарные,я подписалась и теперь не пропускаю ваши видео)привет из Москвы)
This scape ROCKS! Twigs/ leaflets etc... I myself bred Apistogramma cacatuoides.
Great looking tank. Apisto looking stunning!!
Great job. The contrasts are amazing. I always push the sand away from the front glass...it just looks better imo.
This tank looks amazing
It’s always satisfying when your fish spawn
Brilliant choice of corys!

I like the clean aquascape look for than the accurate naturalistic looks but this one is definitely my fave naturalistic tank you've done. Curious to see its developments!
Great looking tank! Well done!

Looks fantastic mate
I’ve never seen a sword that looks so crinkly, superb job as always MD :)
CORY ONLY TANK!!! WE NEED THIS!
Beautiful Tank 👍

Nice arrangement.
Now u have inspired me to make my 4th tank
Great video
Nice one MD
4K Super nice!!
Amazing as always 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
these apistos are beautiful

Agreed but then I usually don't care for white backgrounds period. I feel like it detracts from the scape and vibrancy of the plants. Personal opinion though.
Hey MD! If you're thinking of adding tank mates later on, consider pencilfish. They are small schooling tetra species. Very interesting behavior.
I just got 4 of the Venezuelan corys. All came alive and still doing well. They're in a 55g with sterbais, fairy and paleatus corys. I just need gold lasers to complete my collection...tank size limitation
Those corydoras 🥰
@MDFishTanks love this scape! Can you link the background paper you use??? Love this color.
I have some of these Corys too, though a lot smaller than yours. Also tempted to get some more though they are expensive like you said.
Awesome some babies made it, my recent apisto pair have been laying eggs but they seem to disappear after 3 days or so, not sure what happening or who’s possibly eating them
MD please consider getting dart frogs I think you would really enjoy them
It's definitely something I'm interested in.
nice music at the end 👌🏼
I think blackwater and black background makes it better
On a set up like this I’m assuming you don’t use co2. What do you use to keep your plants looking so amazing?
I was wondering if you preheat the water before you put the fish back. It seems like they went from warm water to cold water pretty quickly ? I"m brand new to this. I have always wanted to keep fish and know absolutely nothing about them.
Where did you get the sticks from ? Or did you just grab them from outside ? Haha
love this tank, about to set up a tank for my Apisto pair, but I'm getting conflicting info on pool filter sand. did you have trouble with diatoms in the beginning? wondering if I should just let it leach first before adding plants and fish and just do lots of water changes to let it all balance?
Amazing video again keep up the good work .just wondering where you get your tanks from looking for a 4ft one.
md: I wont put a lot of plants in
md's mind: it needs more plants
Thanks MD, another educational vid, can you please tell us what twigs (safe specie) of tree/bush you are using in the tank?
I liked the old one more
hey man... great channel you have here.. its nice to see someone promoting low tech tanks to show the rest how its done. I do believe in the concept of eco tank where once established, the tank takes care of itself.... My question is, do you ever use liquid ferts?
