"I met you in prison". LOL This video has a hundred things I love about Japan. The lady leaving a note, the son calling, the son saying we will pay all expenses, the insurance company calling you, the Policeman recognizing you at the station, the Suzuki lady seeming to pay lots of attention to your pointing out the car problems, the Suzuki lady watching the traffic so you can exit, the farmer at the market picking the better fruit pkt. etc etc..... OMG I love japan Yes Japan is not Utopia, but they do many more things right than many western countries.
I'm glad you are ok. The car was fixed and looked flawless. Made me wonder if I ever should rent a car in Japan. Both of my visits I used public transportation and very expensive taxi. Just that in America we drive the opposite side didn't make me confident about driving.
I think the point about lack of details and the need to not jump to conclusions is a big point that many people from high context countries miss where the reading the air is more important than the words spoken
Love the honesty of those involved in the crash, the police and the service centre that fixed the car. There's something about Japan... Glad you got a "new" vehicle, Chani. Safe travels.
I so like the politeness of Japanese people. The way the Suzuki lady guided you out onto the road and then bowed was touching. I want to go back there!
My previous car was hit on literally every side (just dings) while parked at various times over the few years that I had it, and funnily enough, no one left a note for me. Canadians aren't that nice after all.
Lord, I miss this level of customer service. In the us, or where I live now no police would be called for an accident of this scale. I also enjoyed watching the farmers market, and the little things like when they give you back your bag of fruit, they cradle it underneath with their other hand. It's just so considerate.
I’m so glad you weren’t in the car and that no one was injured! The dealership is definitely at the top of their customer service game. What is normally a harrowing experience was made much less so by the politeness and care of everyone involved! I’m so glad everything worked out so well!!
It’s amazing to see how polite, honest & what good service the Japanese people are. They are just lovely, I wish other places could strive to be the same way.
I so love that you told the police station: I met you in prison. Such a nice laugh when I really needed one. Glad your repair went well and no one was hurt.
I bet the police have enough experience with nervous people saying weird things, Chani. I love that you told us. The exceptional politeness is such a blessing in Japan.
Another great video, Chani. I guess if there's any consolation, it's that you weren't IN the car when it happened. Nonetheless, it sounded like a very frightening phone call to receive, which could have been eased so much if the police officer had told you your car had been hit while it was parked. How funny that you met your policeman from the prison! 🤣 It looks like the Suzuki dealership did a wonderful repair job. I LOVE that level of service that only happens in Japan. When I lived there when I was 20 and had a car, I used to marvel each time I drove into a petrol station. There would always be three people running to greet me; one filling the tank, one cleaning the front windscreen, and one the back, followed by the customary bowing as I drove away. It's the only place you get to feel like royalty without all the drama that comes with it! I'm glad you're safe, and that Millie seemed obvious to all the drama, sleeping in her cardboard house. 😻
The part where the "Suzuki lady" escorts you on your way is, well....Only in Japan! Another one of your boots-on-the-ground stories....really important things to know.
"Charter boat? What charter boat?" 😆 Natsukashi memories from Queensland 🙈😂 The Suzuki dealership lady running to the road to give you the all-clear to pull out onto the road brought tears to my eyes. Shinsetsu desu ne! 😊
The service and attention you received is on a whole different, and much, much higher level than you’d ever get in my country. Wow. I’m so impressed. I’m glad you shared the story of this experience, and glad it all came out so well for you. Happy driving!
That’s so unfortunate, hopefully turns out okay! Also, thank you for uploading your experience to TH-cam, I’m sure it will help so many people in the future!
Hi Chani! So happy you're ok! This is another example of how awesome Japan is. Not only are the people honest , they are extremely kind and efficient. ❤ 1:29
Hi Chani, a fascinating video! The car accident "nightmare" is in fact another evidence of how great Japan is. The service you received from the Suzuki dealership was something out of this world. I've been living in New Zealand for 30 years and have never experienced anything like that! On the contrary, the service here is mainly rude. For example, yesterday I bought a carpet rug for my living room from a popular shop. When I got to the check out to pay, at first they wanted to charge me the full price and were denying that it was on special. I stuck to my guns and they fixed the price that was advertised online, but wasn't on their system. The carpet is quite heavy. No staff offered to help me to my car. And the shop wasn't busy at that time. I am not going to start on the dirthy and quite hostile farmers markets here. Anyway, I am glad that your car was repaired exactly the way it was when brand new. We love Millie. Julia & Tiger Lily ❤😻
I hope that all the Suzuki dealerships are as awesome as yours was with this experience. 10 stars to them for their service and attention to detail. Also kudos to the Wakayama police department.
I think getting cameras in your car is good advice anywhere you live these days! I honestly can't get over how polite the Japanese people are. I would love to live somewhere where people are so kind and polite!
Even better than here in the States, with our expression, "the customer is always right". (I am not even certain how widespread this this mentality is, anymore. It was the way of handling things when I worked in retail, decades ago...)
I’m so sorry that happened to your brand new car. The first few hours must have been very traumatic for you given the unknown. Am glad you are okay and the situation has been rectified to achieve a positive outcome. Love your videos and stay safe!
What wonderful service at the Suzuki dealer! And the mother who hit your car and her son did the right thing and were very apologetic. I have never visited Japan but always heard the Japanese people are polite and honest. As a tourist I would be afraid to rent a car in Japan (especially because they drive on the “wrong” side of the road) and your story only confirms that view. I’ll stick to public transit. I’m glad it all turned out OK in the end and no one was hurt.
Hi Chani, great news that all was resolved in such a short time. I’m impressed with the service you received from the dealership. Glad Millie is enjoying her cardboard box. 😊
I am so sorry that you had this unpleasant incident. You made a very interesting video out of it. Fortunately, no one was injured and thanks to the situation and your insurance and the very good Suzuki service team, everything seems to have come to a happy end.
You handled this situation with grace and patience. The Japanese certainly make it easy. They provide great customer service. She even guides you out into traffic. Accidents are never pleasant. I'm glad everything worked out.
@@ChaniJapan "I met you in prison"... LOL!!! I am sure that familiar police officer later explained to his colleagues what you meant by that statement. 😆 Glad things had a happy ending!
It must have been a really stressful experience, but it's all coming together nicely and we're really seeing the incredible quality of service in Japan. 💖
Aloha Chani ....Your channel is already interesting because of your perspective YOU DONT NEED CLICK BATE titles like this one ....There was NO nightmare that was super smooth and SO much easier than what you would experience in the US or OZ
In Melbourne 95% that you never find the person who hit your car , happened to me twice in car park when I do shopping . Japanese are honest and did a right thing , the lady at the dealer so polite , hat off to her the way she run to the street and watching traffic for you to get out .
There is a lot to be grateful for in this situation. I know if you had been in the U.S., it probably would not have gone as smoothly. I am so glad that you were able to get your car repaired back to its original condition so quickly.
What a pain! But I'm so impressed with the car dealership's service. I noticed when I lived in Japan that they have a much higher staff to customer ratio than anywhere else I've lived. I've never forgotten the airport shuttle bus I caught being waved off by a team of workers who'd helped stow the luggage, sell the tickets, answer customer questions, etc. In Australia the driver would do everything - there would no other staff. I wonder how it works economically. I know salaries are lower, but prices are also lower.
The Japanese are honourable and left their details at the accident. He even apologised over the phone for his mother. This would not happen in Australia (my car was hit in car park). The service repair was smooth and service exceptional in Japan (compared to my experience of repair). Bottom line, if you have to have a car crash experience, much better to have it in Japan! 😊
13:43 Lower-voice Chani freaks me out 😱 Hahaha. Great video, as per usual! Thank you for sharing your story. It's very helpful to hear how things like this are dealt with in Japan.
Just so love the efficiency and respect in Japan. Here in the UK, if people hit your stationary car, they generally just leave without leaving their details. Glad all was sorted and you can get back to your camping trips. I don't know what was more scary - the police giving you very little information in the beginning, leaving you wondering if this was some kind of scam, or you announcing to everyone in the police station that you had been in prison 🤣🤣!
Glad everything worked out! Honestly it's such a relieve to see how much work they put into making sure everything gets repaired the propper way and not even to mention the great service they provide.
watching how Japan deals with accidents makes me want to cry. watching how insurance deals with accidents makes me want to cry. watching how your dealership deals with accident repair makes me want to cry. here in california where i am everything will be bungled and frustrate you to death. and most probably no one would have left a note or called the police to begin with so you would just come out to the station and find your car damaged.
Sorry you had to deal with this unfortunate accident. I'm glad you were not inside the car when it happened thank goodness.I'm glad you were wise about a very good car insurance, drive recorder / dash cam etc. 😺
LOL "Hi I know you from prison" 🤣 Spewing Chani, what a pain in the butt...but glad it all worked out ok for you. Honestly I doubt its any worse in Japan than Australia with the silver drivers. Thanks for sharing your experience, some bloody good tips in there regarding insurance, in car cams and taking photo evidence to show your parked correctly 👍
I enjoyed the video, but I'm not sure which part was a "Nightmare" It seems like everyone was apologetic and your dealings with the police, insurance company, and repairs went great.
Probably the train ride home and not knowing what the police were talking about. I was going crazy trying to figure out what had happened 🤣 After that everything was very smooth and the people were fantastic 😃
This video is interesting. What’s puzzling to me is that at no time did you have a positive thing to say about the honesty and due care and diligence of the Japanese. I guess your goal was to explain the predicament and the subsequent good outcome.
Yes. I probably should have mentioned the honesty and the care specifically. I think the footage conveys that point and the words are more about the processes I had to go through.
That was a suspenseful episode. But I am so glad you were not in the car when the accident happened. Also in the end it turned out to be a very positive experience for you, especially with Suzuki looking after you. Blessings!😅😅😅
My heart broke a little but as the video went on I felt so happy for you to have received such excellent service, and the camper is back in all its glory. Especially glad that you and Millie were nowhere near the accident. Excellent video Chani, thanks for sharing 💜
Sorry to hear about your car. If it happened in Australia, they would just drive off. Just had a neighbour (rental) yesterday reverse into my house wall (we share a driveway), they had no intention of telling me (wall was significantly damaged). It was my other neighbour who sent me the footage and I approached them today. They tried to deny it then when I told them I had it on camera. I asked them why they didn't leave a note. Worst thing is they're vacating tomorrow (as it's a rental). They've said they'll fix it but I've contacted the real estate and the owner of the property (who I'm friends with). Hoping the real estate will fix it from the renters bond. *sigh*. It just ruins your day. I love how polite and considerate Japanese people seem to be. Wish Aussies were like that.
Japan is the most honest and trustworthy country, on late September I visited Aomori and forgot my backpack on the bus. After l went into the train station and I realized I left my backpack on the bus. Then I went to the bus ticket office to get help and after a few calls from the staff to get contacted to some drivers that they might look it out for me. No result then the staff suggested to report to the police by the train station as well. So the police have an interpreter on the phone to collect my information and report it in writing in order to proceed. In 2 hours they located my backpack which I have 2 passports credit cards and some cash in it, everything was untouched and waiting for me to pick up at the bus depot. Amazing service and amazing people in Japan. I was expecting it’s might take a few days to get it back because I trust Japanese customs and culture. I’m so impressed by the quality of the people they have! Worth the trip and experience!
I didn't see the nightmare... That was fantastic service start to finish. You see, here in Canada, if your car got hit in a parking lot - you would be on your own. It would just be another hit and run accident and you just deal with your own insurance company and repair shop. They treated you well.
Glad everything worked out, your car was repaired, and no one was hurt. I was feeling your stress as you talked about your train ride back to Wakayama. (And the, “I met you in prison,” was just too funny!) The Japanese level of honesty, courtesy and politeness is above all, and would be difficult to find in the US these days. Was in Wakayama last month and was thinking of you, and understanding why you like it there. It’s really a lovely place! Thank you for sharing your’s and Millie’s adventures with all of us. Stay safe and healthy, especially now that winter is approaching. God bless!
As someone whose car has at least half a dozen dents from various sizes caused by someone else while it was was parked, this story makes me very jealous of how would be like to live in a country where it seems the majority takes responsibility on their acts. Glad to know everything went as smoothly as possible for you.
Chani, what a terrible thing to happen! I'm really sorry. I can imagine what a stressful and frustrating train ride that must have been, but it seems like everyone, including the "guilty party" pulled together to get Mori back in shape and looking good! I look forward to the next camping adventure.... and thanks for all the good tips you gave us who drive in Japan. I will make sure I follow them when I drive my Suzuki Lapin around.
I have had two brand new cars hit and insurance here in the states refused to repair them properly. We are old and feel taken advantage of. Im so glad you are taken care of.
I saw another TH-camr say that insurance fraud is very common in Japan, so you are lucky you got an honest person. And the cameras are a great idea, I've been looking at some recently too.
I'm glad you weren't hurt and that everything has worked out in the end! The customer service from that dealership is really impressive! Otherwise, thank you for making a video we didn't know that we needed, but I'm sure it will be very helpful for the future.
Being in any accident brings such a level of anxiety in me, or relating with the garda (police here in Ireland), so I can really empathise [especially the part around the train ride]. However seeing the support received and the accountability of all parties involved, I wonder how much that must alleviated any stress. Go Japan!
@ChaniJapan xoxo your videos are great. And congrats on launching your Japanese classes as well. I can speak a little bit if Japanese, but your skill set is IMPRESSIVE... and I bet you are a great teacher. watching how Japan deals with accidents makes me want to cry. watching how insurance deals with accidents makes me want to cry. watching how your dealership deals with accident repair makes me want to cry. here in california where i am everything will be bungled and frustrate you to death. and most probably no one would have left a note or called the police to begin with so you would just come out to the station and find your car damaged.
I know exactly what you mean. I would probably have a battle back in OZ too.
Sorry you had to deal with this unfortunate accident. I'm glad you were not inside the car when it happened thank goodness.I'm glad you were wise about a very good car insurance, drive recorder / dash cam etc. 😺
Thank you. I’m going to continue to be careful. It’s a bit of a reminder that anything can happen. 😃
Doesn't sound like much of a "nightmare". Glad you're safe!
Yeah just a train ride nightmare of stress 🤦♀️🤣
Glad you are okay and that Mori-san made a full recovery.
We love Suzuki! Such service! So glad we saw the young guy who was so nice. The lady too.
The young sales man is the same age as my sons. Such a good young man.
Thank you! I was really disappointed the car was damaged but it did all end well ❤️
Yes, Nancy! It was, indeed, "suspenseful"! Had I not been sitting in bed, watching this on my laptop, I would have been "on the edge of my seat"!
Chani, your storytelling ability is amazing. Clear, concise, funny and to the point. Love your videos❤
Thanks so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. ❤️
What a polite people the Japanese are, wonderful attitudes and service. If that had happened where I live they'd have just driven off
My heart broke a little but as the video went on I felt so happy for you to have received such excellent service, and the camper is back in all its glory. Especially glad that you and Millie were nowhere near the accident.
Excellent video Chani, thanks for sharing 💜
Wow I learn so much with your videos. Thanks Chani. Keep going, keep growing. I hope one day to meet you for a coffee in Japan.
Oh no😬That is not good. I hope the cost is covered.
What a lovely story. So refreshing to hear again and again everyone’s positive experiences.
❤I’m glad that everyone is okay and your car was restored to its new condition. Enjoying your videos.
Thanks! I was really happy the car was repaired so well ❤️
I didn't see the nightmare... That was fantastic service start to finish. You see, here in Canada, if your car got hit in a parking lot - you would be on your own. It would just be another hit and run accident and you just deal with your own insurance company and repair shop. They treated you well.
It was very excellent service. My nightmare was my embarrassing moments 🤦♀️ and thinking I was wrongly accused of an accident 🤣
This was a great and informative video! A perspective that we never see.
Thank you!
God bless!
Thank you. You were in Wakayama! Yes winter is coming. Time to get warm stuff out.
As someone whose car has at least half a dozen dents from various sizes caused by someone else while it was was parked, this story makes me very jealous of how would be like to live in a country where it seems the majority takes responsibility on their acts.
Glad to know everything went as smoothly as possible for you.
My case was very good and it was an honest person. I heard it is more common than not to own up to your mistakes here.
Can’t wait to be back in Hakodate in January. Japan is a fascinating place
Are you skiing?
Chani, what a terrible thing to happen! I'm really sorry. I can imagine what a stressful and frustrating train ride that must have been, but it seems like everyone, including the "guilty party" pulled together to get Mori back in shape and looking good! I look forward to the next camping adventure.... and thanks for all the good tips you gave us who drive in Japan. I will make sure I follow them when I drive my Suzuki Lapin around.
Thank you so much! Yes, it was a stressful ordeal, but I’m glad to see the car back in good shape. 🙂
I have had two brand new cars hit and insurance here in the states refused to repair them properly. We are old and feel taken advantage of. Im so glad you are taken care of.
That's really unfortunate. I know how frustrating that feels. So disappointing insurance didn’t do a good job for you.
Wow, that's a crazy story. Really unfortunate and something that makes you nervous. I hope everythin will be okay!
Our family still says 'what charter boat' when someone can't find something that's in plain sight.😃
Yep! Me too 🤣
Japan is just on another level. Cars are getting hit here and no one gives a crap to do the right thing...I want to move to Japan so bad
I totally understand 😬
I saw another TH-camr say that insurance fraud is very common in Japan, so you are lucky you got an honest person. And the cameras are a great idea, I've been looking at some recently too.
It seems like a lot of people are getting dash cams these days.
the lady running to see the traffic was hilarious! things that only happen in Japan, never in Europe.
Actually, they usually even do this at full service gas stations after a fill-up.
I'm glad you weren't hurt and that everything has worked out in the end!
The customer service from that dealership is really impressive!
Otherwise, thank you for making a video we didn't know that we needed, but I'm sure it will be very helpful for the future.
Very good service at the dealer 😃 Thanks for watching 👋
Being in any accident brings such a level of anxiety in me, or relating with the garda (police here in Ireland), so I can really empathise [especially the part around the train ride]. However seeing the support received and the accountability of all parties involved, I wonder how much that must alleviated any stress. Go Japan!
Yes😃🇯🇵
Great video... Super informative with just the right level of drama.... Concerned but not stressed... Glad you and your lovely new vehicle are okay
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video.
@ChaniJapan xoxo your videos are great. And congrats on launching your Japanese classes as well. I can speak a little bit if Japanese, but your skill set is IMPRESSIVE... and I bet you are a great teacher. I have picked up my Japanese a bit at a time, ask have been teaching ESL 1:1 since 1996...in Vancouver BC, so lots of Japanese clients. Let me know if you ever get to travel to BC, I would love to show you the sights... Or point you in the direction of some driving trips you could take around BC.... You would love travelling here... Xo from Leslie in Vancouver BC
@@leslie6189 that sounds amazing. I’d love to visit one day. ❤️
@@ChaniJapan xoxo you are always welcome
Even though it was a bad experience, you have managed to turn it into a positive occurrence by helping others that may have similar problems. Also made me giggle a few times. Glad you are ok and all is sorted. 🙂
Absolutely! Thanks 😃
Good services at Suzuki shop, police department was helpfull, even the son of the lady was kind, but more important nobody injured and you have back your car.
Yep. All ended well 😮💨
Hi Chani,I'm glad everything turned out ok with your camper van.So as always your video is fun to watch God bless you and your cat bye from Kansas City, Missouri U.S.❤u
Thank you! 🤗
Surprisingly useful video, hopefully none of us ever need to use this information. Awesome little van.
Thanks for watching! Hope you never need to use any of this info.
Hi Chani! I just found out your channel, I'm so happy!! I decided to start from the beginning and check your older videos so I can know exactly what, you have done ever since you came and while I'm watching, this one came out!! I checked simply to make sure you were OK 😮 I kinda spoiled myself (in the video I'm watching you just, bought an Akiya 🤭) so please stay safe and I'll watch your videos until I catch up to this one 🙏🏾 Cindy
Thanks Cindy😃 I am totally ok ❤️
Thank you for sharing this Chani! It's these 'real' experiences that are so valuable to us moving to or newly living in Japan. What to do, how to do it and what to expect. We're sorry that 'Little Warrior' (my name for Mori) got damaged so soon. So happy to see the repairs are done!
just stable into your channel, your channel really great, lot of insight into japan first hand, detail explanation, not to mention great personality!, this channel really underrated, I'm glad you get your car fix again, I just sub, hope you great health!
Thanks! I really appreciate you joining the channel!
Hi Chani, so glad everything turned out ok, those first few hours must have been pretty stressful, thank you for sharing the process. By the way, your editing skills are getting really awesome, although lower voice Chani was a little freaky 🤣❤🇦🇺
Thank you so much! The car was damaged but it did all end well. 😊
Your final tag with Miss Millie in her box made me think about that saying: every Amazon delivery comes with a free cat toy. I really enjoy your adventures, keep up the good work!😊
She does love cardboard boxes 😊
Omgosh how stressful! Glad that everything worked out in the end! So funny about the police officer story! At least there was an officer there that kinda knew you and knows that you’re a part of the community!
Yeah. He was lovely and did laugh at me/with me 🤣
Wow, they certainly looked after you. Such polite people, you were very lucky Chani
Very lucky. Very polite and honest people.
Sorry that happened, but your video was informative, entertaining, and funny!
Thanks for watching! 😃
Wow, so much respect for all people involved. Japanese are awesome
Everyone was very honest and helpful.
Somehow when I started the video, I knew your prison visit would come up. I'm just glad you're not going back there now! Glad everything turned out all right.
Otsukaresama 😊 Happy to know nobody is hurt. You cracked us up with prison comment, Chani the ex-con. Lol another great vid! You are so talented 🎉
It's good to know that we all say or do things that when you think about it afterwards you feel a bit silly.. sorry to hear about your car..how efficient type police were..❤
‘Charter boat, what charter boat?’ 😂
Another great video. Glad everything worked out. Hope all goes as smoothly for Sailing La Vagabonde.
Thanks 👍
Oh heck, sorry to hear this! But chuffed you're safe.
Thank you so much for this video!!!
You’re welcome!
