    Great interview. Kobe was a beast. Love him or hate him he did what it took to get his team to win 5 championships and he stayed loyal to the lakers for his whole playing career which is a rarity these days.

    • @Adam-tt5cs
      @Adam-tt5cs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +CycleCruza Not to take anything away from Kobe, he's probably a top 20 or 25 all time player (no disrespect, I just haven't watched the old guys play so I can't make my judgement objective about them), but you guys have to stop with this kind of stuff.
      "...he did what it took to get his team to win 5 championships...". No, HE didn't. Jerry Buss, Jerry West, Phil Jackson & Tex Winter did what it took to win championships. It was Shaq's team up to 2003, but they couldn't have won without the role players either - Shaw vs the Blazers in game 7, Horry and the refs vs the Kings etc. Later on - gm 6 vs the Suns Artest scoring on the layup after Kobe's airball, the whole team effort in 2010 vs the Celtics in gm 7 - Pau Gasol, Fisher and those guys. It all started with the management bringing great players, first off around Shaq, later on around Kobe and Phil Jackson's coaching.
      Second - he played with the Lakers his whole career, after he was traded from the Hornets. He requested a trade in '07 because he didn't get any help, and the Lakers trade for Pau Gasol in 2008. Who wouldn't be loyal.
      Like I said, no disrespect to Kobe - he's a top 4 player in the post Jordan era (alongside TD, Shaq, Lebron)

    Shaq was just about to leave his prime in about two years at that point and Kobe was just getting better and better.
    Shaq really had to go especially when you don't work as hard as you should to keep yourself in top form and making yourself still feel dominant.

    • @Adam-tt5cs
      @Adam-tt5cs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      +Natsu .D. Uzamaki The 2004 finals series proved that Shaq was still the best player in the league when he wanted to be. Kobe destroyed the team with his selfish play in that series. Shaq averaged 27 & 11 on 63% FG%. Kobe attempted 6 FGA per game more than Shaq, and had 4 less points and a terrible FG% at 38%. Then the team broke down, 2005 Lakers couldn't make the playoffs, Phil Jackson published his book in which he smashed Kobe. It wasn't until 2006 or 2007 that Kobe was a better player than really out of shape Shaq.
      He should've fed the big guy more.

      @HunchoHamza 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    My GF yelled at me from the next room & told me there was an accident and Kobe Bryant died.
    She is always staring at her phone and giving me trivial news, so I was only half-listening
    because I was playing with our kitten at the time.
    Then my brain suddenly went into over-drive and I asked incredulously:
    "Do you mean the basketball player ?"
    (Like there could be some other Kobe Bryant)
    She said yeah, so still not believing, I told her "no, that's got to be some kind of mistake".
    But then I rushed to the other room and grabbed the remote control to turn on the TV.
    I was semi-relieved to see CNN & MSNBC were still showing re-runs of their normal broadcast.
    But then I turned on Fox news and they were already talking about it.
    After a few minutes I checked back and that quick, both CNN & MSNBC had switched
    to live broadcasts as the story unfolded and I spent the rest of the day glued to the TV.

    "When to trust your team mates" this is why he never won a 'ship without TONS of help. The definition of a great player entails 100% trust in his team mates 100% of the time. I remember Kobe taking double and even triple teamed circus shots all through the 2000s and getting so much praise for making about 40% of them, at most. Meanwhile Lebron was making the simple pass to facilitate the simple bucket when defenses would collapse in on him. But I guess 1 on 5 basketball is more impressive than 5 on 5 to some people

    Kobe never figured it out that part of being a great man, forget about being a basketball player, is helping the machine as a whole thrive. The great ones have done this throughout history: Augustus with the principate system, Vince McMahon with the WWE, Bill Russel and Magic Johnson with the Celtics and Lakers, respectively. As a result, Kobe never reached the pinnacle of greatness as a basketball player. You cannot make a starting 5 of all time with Kobe because unless they bow down to him, he won't let that team thrive.
    Yeah, he got one more ring than Shaq, but he missed out on a lot of greatness as a man and basketball player.

    • @SpicyElaichi
      @SpicyElaichi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He learned that in 2008 losing to the Celtics. He tried scoring relentlessly and the Lakers got eaten up. He said he had to learn to get his teammates involved first and foremost. He made that Lakers team better, look what happened to those guys after they left that team. He aint like the guys today who know what their stats are and try to hit them every night, tryna get that last rebound or assist for a triple double, he just wanted to win.

    • @ConcernedResident_GiantStack
      @ConcernedResident_GiantStack 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpicyElaichi Good point. I guess I was going more just based on what he said in the video. I believed the same thing happened in 2007 when they were playing the Suns and almost won: Kobe passed the ball to his teammates more, allowing himself to depend on them. It wasn't enough, then, and evidently he hadn't fully grasped that concept till 2009 and 2010.
      It's funny how sports work in that it's very mental, not just being about your skill or physical capabilities. Case in point: the young versus the old George Foreman: young George had all the raw talent, but was too high string to use it to its most effectiveness, while old George had lost a lot of talent but was so mentally strong and calm that he could hang with the new era of super heavyweights.

Smh, how would you feel knowing that you can be one of the greatest of all time and people are always going to give credit to the other guy for your championships? That's bullshit, Kobe wasn't having that shit. Shaq wouldn't have won without Kobe. Period. He got lucky and left to a good team with a great coach, while Kobe had to play with scrubs. But he took the challenge until he finally won back to back. 5 rings is better than 4. Kobe> Shaq.
