I preordered this months ago and finally got the email a few weeks ago to finalize my purchase. Ted has been amazing in replying to questions and concerns but now that you’re doing the review, I’m even more excited for it. It’s modernizing the e39 and more. Simply badass.
I've been on the fence of upgrading me to aftermarket head unit but now that this is out I ordered immediately. Can't agree more with E39Source, I want the OE experience in the e39. Just keep it simple.
Ryan, you are not kidding. Since I got my e39 in 2011 I too have been searching for decent Bluetooth. I've been fortunate to have an Intravee to do music, but... Bluetooth! I can't wait to get a hold of one!
@@MrSevnie Am I wrong in saying that the Ncxus v3 Pro does not support drawing a UI onto the screen of the Nav/ Radio? If that's the case, the GROM BT3 would be a better choice as it at least displays metadata in the "Main" field of the Nav.
@@tass2001 yes it dont show The Song information but you can still change songs throught steering wheel buttons and so on. But its More than half of The Price of this and this doesnt support aptxhd format atleast by website information
@@MrSevnie - The BlueBus uses AAC for HD BT streaming, which is fairly comparable to aptX. At the end of the day, most people are going to stream music which is encoded at a much lower bitrate than either codec tops out at. While the Ncxus v3 Pro is a good option, it wouldn't suit my needs as it doesn't completely integrate with the vehicle. Of course, I am biased as I am the guy who designed the BlueBus ;). FWIW, I can't even make a BlueBus for myself for the cost of the Ncxus.
@@tass2001 I have a 1999 528i Wagon with business radio. Has 6 CD changer in back and cassette deck up front. Will this work? I am very very very VERY interested!
I've been literally getting on my nerves getting AUX on my E39 525D, finally got it right. bought a AUX - Bluetooth transmitter that just don't stay connected to the car's AUX idk why, sent it back. then this vid came out. lmao gotta get this
Awesome video and add to the M5 Ryan! I will definitely be considering this for mine. The minimal installation and return on investment seems like a no-brainer.
My 1999 E46 doesn't have a CD changer in the trunk, only the radio in the dash. How does the Bluebus connect to it? Does it go in the space behind the radio?
@@tass2001 Unfortunately it looks like European E46s didn't come pre-wired at all :(. I'm in the market for an E39 anyway so I'll make sure it has the CD changer.
What do you find wrong with the Grom? The only thing different I see with this unit is that you can change the blinker option which is actually pretty neat. I have occasional hiccups where the audio won't play through the Grom but I usually just shut the car off and let the Grom turn off, then turn the car back on and it picks it right up. The Meta-data is a nice feature as the Grom only displays audio data in the top most section in big text but its not a dealbreaker for me. All of the steering wheel controls work and I have Siri functionality just like this thing. I was hoping for a little more out of the device but I think the Grom is still a great unit.
@@Minerva___ A couple gripes...One is that it connects to the phone once you unlock the car, so if you are talking, you lose the connection and have to keep clicking back to the phone audio. The audio quality seems like it could be better. Maybe it's just me, but songs don't sound as clear as they could. I have M audio. Also the display of metadata in the center screen, it's just a very poor use of the space. I also find that when I click on the steering wheel for a next song, sometimes I have to click several times for it to change. Very weird. Generally the Grom is good, but I am being picky here.
Shifted Perspective Hadn’t thought about the call connecting to the GROM, that’s a great point. I’m not normally on a phone call so that didn’t concern me as much. The metadata/text on screen is maybe the biggest bummer for me but I’ve found the unit to be pretty capable for what it does. With Spotify over BT, it switches songs when I use my steering wheel controls to go back or forward. When I’m listening to podcasts, its somehow intelligent to understand the forward and back buttons to use them as “skip forward X amount of seconds.” It’s probably just coincidence but I really like the fact that I can do that from my steering wheel. I really do wish I could have that blinker feature. If the install is as simple as it seems/looks, I may go ahead with it anyway. Cheers.
@@Minerva___ - what more would you like? Chances are that I plan on implementing it at some point :P I would like to note that the "GROM disappearing" is not their fault. The radio in some of our cars has a shitty bug where it forgets the CD Changer is there under certain circumstances. I've gotten past most of those, thankfully, but I do occasionally hear about an "AWOL" -- waiting thirty seconds should generally give the GROM a chance to show back up, if they coded it correctly.
That looks great! So it’s basically like an Intravee with Bluetooth! This has loads of potential for me. I love the convenience of auto locking/unlocking, 3 indicator blinks, that the Intravee gives me but will it offer power folding mirrors, or water temperature monitoring like my Intravee does? Recently I bought a blue music device which gives me Bluetooth audio, but I have to choose between this or the Intravee. This seems like a great compromise 👍
How’s the audio delay between when something happens on your phone and when the sound comes out the car speakers? Say if you were trying to watch a video while parked, would the audio and video match up? That’s my big problem with Bluetooth a lot of times is that there is a big audio delay and watching videos becomes impossible.
I just watched a whole episode of family guy in my M5 and it was perfectly watchable. Then I got more scientific and found a test video where I determine the audio delay to be .25-.3 seconds.
Nice thing to oldschool BMW! I personaly have to my e39 Pibus, its a bit better in my oppinion and cheaper, but nice to see that there still are such people who do such things!
Looks very cool. How does the Menu etc for things like one touch turn signals and otuerbsetting work when Connected to a car with MID rather than a screen?
Wow that is an impressive product! I have been looking for hack-free Bluetooth solutions for my 16x9 screen, but couldn’t find any. However, I found the e39 Avin Avant 4 and am seriously contemplating installing that head unit since it is the best aftermarket yet “OE” style I have found. It gives CarPlay, Backup camera, front parking camera, dash cam, and TPMS functionality if you add those options when purchasing. While I really want to buy the BlueBus, I think these features of the Avant 4 are too compelling for me, even though it’s a bit of a process to install it. What are your thoughts on this specific aftermarket head unit?
(BlueBus guy here, so my opinion is obviously skewed) -- I won't speak for Ryan, but I will tell you that my personal experience with an Android Headunit (Nexus 7 in-dash) was clunky at best. It worked well, and it was cool, but it was too "busy" and thus very distracting. I would also caution that Avin support doesn't have a good track record -- See this thread on M3F: www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=606158
tass2001 Thanks for the response and thanks so much for creating that awesome product! The link you provided is incredibly informative so I appreciate that. I have heard the same about Avin’s support track record, but from what I can tell they have gotten a lot better lately? I may have to try out the Avant 4 because of the backup cam and other features, but if I don’t like it I will switch back to the 16:9 and pick up the BlueBus!! If anyone else has opinions on the Avant 4, I would be love to hear them
@@RedstoneWolf531 thank you! I hope you don't run into issues with the Avin, but if you do, "I want a refund" seems to make their support responsive to your issues from what I have read ;)
I have not had any experience with the Avin Avant. I have largely been against aftermarket headhunts though, I've just never seen one that doesn't look and feel like a clunky bolt on mod from China.
E39Source That’s fair. Since the 540i is my daily and my first car, I’m not as worried but at the very least I can always back track to the 16:9 if things go south haha. If I do have a good experience though, maybe it would be worth me making a video on it? Let me know if that would make sense for the channel
So out of curiosity, let’s theoretically say I have the BMW car phone, the og, the one from the e38, and I don’t have any of the modules other than the armrest phone, and the microphone up in the headliner, now, would I be able to use that phone to pick up calls from the blutooth module, or does that require further modules and retrofitting, because that would be amazing
That's not something I ever considered! It would be hilarious to have a working car phone in 2020. However, I don't believe the BlueBus will be able to accommodate this, as I haven't even remotely looked into how that worked. I presume a proprietary protocol was used, as most of those signal lines vary between Nokia and Motorola.
tass2001 I mean, he says you can use the microphone in the headliner and the steering wheel controls to pickup a call and talk, i would imagine that was integrated with the Center console phone, and he said you have to rob a whole connector from the Telephone Control Unit, so I imagine it’s all interconnected
tass2001 I had no idea you were the creator of the device until I went to preorder one, I would love to get one for my ‘97 540, I’ve got four years as a GM cluster/radio technician, I’m very handy with a soldering iron, if you have any intentions of selling some as build it yourself kits, I would most definitely be interested
@@andrewmattera6205 - Haha no worries! As you can see here: www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e39-528i-lim/d0DPJQm there are a lot of data lines going between the TCU in the trunk and the car phone in the console. While there appears to be a microphone output from the phone, I'm not really seeing an audio input. Then there's the question of what exactly it would expect -- line level? Amplified? What impedance? So, it may be do-able, but certainly not something I feel adds enough value to pour myself into. There's a lot of fine pitch parts on the PCB (cadlab.io/project/1479/master/circuit/aGFyZHdhcmUvQmx1ZUJ1cy5icmQ%3D) so I wouldn't really recommend hand assembly. Even I use a stencil and solder paste for my home made prototypes. Of course, shoot me an email if you seriously want to assemble one. You can buy pretty much all the parts off Mouser (minus two). -Ted
I've ordered one. Thanks for the video. Love the turn signal triple/quintuple flash feature. I wonder if he can add auto-folding mirrors on shutdown too...
I own a 2001 740i with a phone package and nav. Which of the three user interface listings on your order page will work with my car ? I'd love to order one but the correct one. thanks
I'm going to get this for my car, and another for my Girlfriend's R53.. Incredible. I've been looking for something that would work like factory-integrated tech. My prayers are answered.
What year is her R53 and does it have the Business CD or the Nav system? I didn't really market to the R53 folks because it seems like they didn't get phone support until the 2003 MY "Business CD" units. If it's Navigation, or 2003 or newer, than it's good to go :). With that said, it would still work, but there would be no UI because the headunit doesn't support it.
@@tass2001 Well funny enough it is a 2003. Are you saying the '03+ can still get the on-screen information? I'm mostly interested in that and the seamless phone-sync'ing.
It's a nice thing but for similar price one can get aftermarket player with all of modern functions like the one from Eonon. I guess it's for someone who wants to keep original player
Hi! Yes, I developed this to be the ultimate solution for those who don't want to deal with an Android Headunit. I want to keep my car "original", which is why this fits in with the electronics so well :)
Hey man great video, very informative - thanks for walking us through this unit. Do you know if the BlueBus is compatible with factory DSP amps? Specifically on a 06 BMW z4M if that matters...
Looks amazing and I was about to purchase a Eonon replacement unit. I put my name down for pre order earlier last year but never received an email and now I can't purchase? Any help is appreciated.
@Amar - sorry! It's likely my email went to spam :(. Shoot me an email at tass2001@gmail.com and I will see about getting you some kind of loaner unit until I am able to to take another batch of orders. The problem is that I can only take a subset of orders (500 this time) as I have to manually source some of the parts to build each unit. The assembly house doesn't let me alter order quantity after the fact either...
With the BlueBus, you don't need the BMW bluetooth model, so that can be unplugged. Otherwise, reach out to the developer for help with this feedback issue. Support@bluebus.dev
It is now January 2020. I missed the pre-order deadline. Can we please get an update on when he will accept more orders? This is really the only thing my E46 M3 is missing. I need your help!!
Chris - No, but it will make things harder to work. For example, you will need to enable pairing via the command line interface of the unit, rather than through the head unit. Other than that, everything should work fine.
This really looks very promising - I have a late 12/2002 E 39 530i with factory bluetooth that works fine for phone calls. Would I be right in assuming that this product would work as Ryan demonstrated if I just unpaired my Iphone from the original bluetooth ? and you ship to Europe ? THX
Thanks! Mostly! You would have to either unplug it fully remove your factory BT module (ULF or TCU) before plugging the BlueBus in, or they will conflict and may even damage each other. But, the BlueBus can do almost as much as your ULF for phone calls, except for the phone book menu on the nav :). Yes, I'll ship to Europe.
One more thing! On my 1998 540ia I removed the analog cellular telephone. I replaced it in the center console with a standard armrest! No sure if that might make a difference? Thanks once more!!!
That tech doesn't matter, you just need the microphone in the headliner and the red/black wired cable adapter I showed in this video for the phone to work.
Deffinetly will order, but this got me wondering if i have installed modlight 2 to my e39 and it has its own comfort blinker and welcome home lights and etc. Wont they be interfeering? Hope you can understand my explenaition. And get back to me.
Hmm, at first I thought it was waaaay overpriced because I was under the impression that it would have hands-free bluetooth audio with metadata, and that's it. But I didn't know about triple-blink capability, I'd have to buy the updated LCM and that alone is a decent amount of $$$. Still on the fence about it since I have basic bluetooth audio (with no car controls, all from phone) installed for $10. Knockoff aux adapter to my MK4, then aux to bluetooth adapter taking power from the flashlight in the glovebox, I made the 12V adapter by butchering up my flashlight. Just need to have a think and see if the rest of the features is really worth the extra $180.
Keep in mind that audio quality is "likely" going to be better with my unit. Hardware alone (no case, fasteners, etc) costs me right over $100 per unit >_
I assume hands free audio works without having a SIM card installed? When I installed the GROM I couldn't get the microphone to work without installing a sim card and the microphone will also but out if the (wired) phone isn't plugged in which is unfortunate because the connector is wobbly. When you're using the handsfree does the audio play through only the small speaker in the door or all of the speakers? Tempted to get one of these and move the GROM to my golf.
Bluetooth audio works without a SIM, as long as the music is stored locally on the device. Phone calling or cellular streaming won't work without an active SIM, of course. Audio comes out of all of the speakers for music and calls.
@@E39Source I meant that I needed to put a sim card in the slot in the trunk of the car or the mic wouldn't work. Would be nice if this avoided that requirement. I always assumed that the handsfree phone only played audio through the door but maybe not? I think that's nicer than having calls play through all speakers. Do you have a video showing how this works with the Business radio? I'm wondering how you view/change the settings.
@@rsporsche Where is there a SIM slot in the trunk? I am not aware of any such thing. The phone should use all the speakers, at least thats how it was from factory (TCU) and with all aftermarket solutions that I have seen. I don't have a video of the BlueBus on an MID, but I'll see about having somebody make one.
@@E39Source The SIM slot is somewhere in the left of the trunk above where the CD changer is, I think with the cordless phones there's also a slot for a sim card in the phone or at least somewhere in the cabin? I guess I just assumed the phone audio would only play from the little door speaker because that's how it was in some of the other cars I've driven. I find it a bit bassy for voice when playing over the main speakers. Would appreciate a video of the bluebus on business radio but I imagine I'll buy one sooner or later anyway.
@@rsporsche That sounds like it's for the OEM BMW phone from 20 years ago. The BlueBus, and most aftermarket products, don't make use of any of that antiquated tech. I haven't noticed any bass problems when talking on the phone in the car through all of the speakers. I can do a video on the Business CD radio in my old E46 330xi that is in Ohio. I'll be back there in a couple of weeks and can film it then (early March). It works very well, though isn't as intuitive as it is on the nav display.
Just purchased this for my e46 330 non nav. Will I be able to enable the triple blink? And what other parts will I need to get the device up and running? Do I just need to find an OE microphone?

Toggle the sound output in settings between analog and digital and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise, contact Ted for support at support@bluebus.dev
I know this has been sorted out, but for posterity: this is typically caused by an OE iPod module being installed, or someone else having disconnected the audio input from the radio quadlock.
I have a 2000 BMW 540i w/o navigation. I saw one comment that it would work with a 2003, particularly since it is a later model E39. Does it work well with the 2000.? The video has a navigation system. Is the BMW navigation system worth having? If it is, what model is recommended? I use my iPhone for navigation. Where do you order the BlueBus?
All you need for the BlueBus to work is CD changer preparation (pre-wire). It should work fine in your car without nav! BMW nav is fine if you have it, but I never use it for actual directions anymore. Stay tuned to BlueBus.dev. The site will soon be updated with information about how to be part of the next order, and when units from the first pre-order will ship.
👍 Great Job! This may be a silly question, but will this work for any audio from the phone like Podcasts, TH-cam, and Netflix? Does it override the old system or work in conjunction with it? Thanks!!
Hi! The pre-order price was $190 and MSRP will be $239.99. This will work on your X3 and to answer about Bluetooth: It's up to you. My board will either work in tandem with the factory ULF, or completely replace it -- that's what "HFP" does in the Settings menu that Ryan showcased in the video.
@@tass2001 Thanks for the response! I'm curious to see a video with a non-screen/Business CD unit and the tweaking of the HFP settings, etc. Also, when do you think you'll be shipping the next round after the pre-orders? Will you be shipping to Canada, too?

This is like a Bluetooth-oriented Intravee, with fewer car-specific features. Hopefully in time they will add more of what the Intravee has because the developer of that tech passed away some time ago and no one else really picked up where he left off. This could be huge especially with the resurgence of interest in this era of BMW. Glad to see someone taking the time.
Funny, I originally described the project as a "Bluetooth module with Intravee-like features". I do plan to bring some more of the Intravee features over as time progresses, along with some other ideas I have beyond what the Intravee did.
Keep coming back to see this and its still so cool! Only thing it needs is to be able to show the album cover on the screen! Maybe that could be a feature to be added in the future *hint* *hint* lol!
Thanks for the kind words (this is my baby)! Sadly, it's not possible to display album art. First off, BT in and and of itself doesn't stream the album art bitmap, but even then, there is no way to draw it onto the screen :(
@@tass2001 I understand, the album art would be like icing on the cake, lol! I had a buddy who owned a e38 740iL (with full 750il interior and a supercharged S62 swap!), and one of the things he was able to do was intergrade the iphone album cover onto the screen. Although most (80%) of the parts were OEM, he did have an intravee 2 and a couple other bits. He eventually ripped it all out and went fun NBT upgrade, then sadly sold it on BAT. Hello ! Question ? My old e39 with the 6cd player have 2 cables, My new e39 y have the dsp "professionnal" (bw85500) its needs 3 connectors ,without the third its plays but no sound, Those bluetooth adapters y find them on Amazon 35€ , but... its have only 2 connectors, there is no dsp connector on it , will it work ?
All factory E39 CD changers will have the small 3-pin cable which is for IBUS connectivity and power. Then you should have one of the following audio cables: 6-pin square cable is analog audio. The single pin round coaxial connector (looks like an antenna) is the superior digital DSP cable. The BlueBus is compatible with both.
Your 2000 M5 will not have the 6-pin (analog) audio connector. You'll be looking for a single pole black coaxial cable that looks like an antenna wire. This round connector plugs into the BlueBus on one end, and directly into the top of the amp on the other end.
Hi Mr E39 source. Have just ordered one of these from Ted Salmon and my order had been confirmed. I have a 2002 530d M sport touring. I don't have any microphone cut out in my roof lining. This is in immaculate condition and want to keep it this way, obviously. Do you have any videos on how to install and what recommendations for the phone speaker. Many thanks. Chris
If you don't have the cut-out, it is possible that you're not pre-wired for the phone system. Can you post the last 7 of your VIN so I can check if you have the telephone prep package? Otherwise if it is pre-wired, it may be as simple as cutting an X pattern into the slot where the mic goes and popping it in.
Hi Chris, I would recommend buying a headliner 'console' panel that has a mic cut-out in it already, so you can keep your factory one perfect somewhere safe. A panel from the US market will clip right in and give you the proper cut-out. You will need to wire the mic through the headliner, however, if you aren't pre-wired.

Yes, but you have to configure a couple options in the BlueBus for this to work as the E36 doesn't have a "full" I-Bus network of modules and the ignition status is never broadcast.
@@tass2001 shouldn't the combo of Bluebus and CD43 (or BE2455) be enough. Don't see why it would need 'full' ibus. Other mp3/aux/USB interfaces all work just fine.

I would personally prefer this because it allows me to retain the factory navigation computer and display, which is part of the experience of owning and using a period car.
@@romainblanchet331 You'll need the 3-pin IBUS (black) and then either a black coaxial cable from the top of the amp or a 6-pin audio cable that would be for the CD changer.
I just got that!! But fml! The PO had done some work and had an iPod line hooked into the back I can only find 1 of the plugs and the small cable antenna type
The small antenna looking wire is the digital DSP cable, the other end should be connected to the top of your amp. Coming out from the carpeting, on the rear left down low near the frame rail, you should see the 3-pin IBUS connector that gives the BlueBus power/data.
I'd like to note that the deficiency with the S6/S7/S8 is because those phones have either tuned down the BT transmit power, or they simply botched the antenna design. If you're within a couple feet of the BlueBus, they work perfectly, but obviously this is not possible in the real world :(
Heya! One question, do you if it will work with the BM 54 audio block? My car does not have DSP or the CD changer. Will there by any issues with the wiring? My car was made in 2002-11.
Hi! It'll work fine with the BM54, but you should make sure you have the CD changer pre-wiring in the trunk as well as the telephone one (you can use mdecoder.com to check for the prep packages too) if that's important to you. Many EUDM cars did not come pre wired like US cars did.
@@tass2001 Well, most likely it wont be prewired, since I checked the trunk and did not see any lose wiring hanging around. Also, since I am in the EU, so most likely Ill need to get the thing wired up! Why do I need the telephone wiring tho? Since my car did not come with a telephone option.
@@mrvanagas - check around really well. In my M3, they were tucked away and wrapped up behind everything else. You don't need the telephone pre-wiring at all, but you need it to take advantage of all the advanced call features (OE mic, calls outside of BT mode) that Ryan mentioned. You could also just wire in the four wires to the radio from the BB that are necessary to make it work, and drop in any aftermarket microphone with a 3.5mm plug :)
As it happens to be, my two best friends and I have 3 three vehicles listed as compatible with this product. 2 x E39 and the Range Rover. Two questions. On the E39's is there a way to switch between the shuttle and the BlueBus or is that not the ideal way to use this? Can the BlueBus pair more than one phone simultaneously?
Anton, What do you mean by "switch between the shuttle and BlueBus"? Yes, the BlueBus can be paired with up two five devices at once, but it can only be connected to one at a time (which is like most BT devices).
What I mean is that my CD unit is still totally functional. I understand that the BlueBus “replaces” the CD unit. So you can only use one of them at a time. But would it possible to go back and forth between the two. Even if you would lose the one while using the other
@@antonvandermerwe9852 - this is possible, but you would have to physically change connections from one to the other. They can't both be connected at the same time. -Ted
@@tass2001 If the BlueBus uses the wiring from the CD shuttle, do you have to strip the CD shuttle wiring and fit a new connector plug? Or is it fitted with a connector plug already compatible with the original fittings?
On the Grom website they say if you are prewired for the cd changer you can use it for this type of functionality, but BMW has to code the car to enable those wires to accept a “fake” CD changer in this case a Grom or your device. Is this not required to make your device work?
That’s why I was asking. For the Grom no music would actually come out of the speakers until BMW enables the cd changer if you don’t already have one installed and only have the wires there.
@@groto27 I am much less familiar with the Z4. If the CD changer needs to be 'enabled' the same will be true for the BlueBus, as it uses those audio and IBUS connections. On the E39, features do not need to be coded on and off. Plug them in, and they work.
I wouldn’t mind seeing how it works with the basic in-dash CD player radio from a 530i. I’m not sure what the unit is called, it’s the one with just the basic orange pixels.
Nice, since my car never had the CD changer installed (but it has the wiring for it) would I need to go to the dealership and have them activate something?
I feel like it's highly likely that any off brand head unit is going to have rude and crude, noisey dac and amplifiers. If there is a corner to be cut, Chinese manufacturers will find it. The oem radios have more than acceptable clarity. However, having anything with a more advanced eq would be a welcome improvement, if you are changing out speakers.
That's still in the works. If you order a unit, I'll email you in the next few weeks about getting a cable. If you just want the jumper for your own use, I can give you the part number for the male side of the connector :)
I preordered this months ago and finally got the email a few weeks ago to finalize my purchase. Ted has been amazing in replying to questions and concerns but now that you’re doing the review, I’m even more excited for it. It’s modernizing the e39 and more. Simply badass.
Thanks for the kind words! I'm not sure I know who you are, but I try my best to answer everyone's queries as best possible :)
Im Emmanuel, but yea you’re great at it keep it up 💯
I've been on the fence of upgrading me to aftermarket head unit but now that this is out I ordered immediately. Can't agree more with E39Source, I want the OE experience in the e39. Just keep it simple.

Probably one the best upgrades for our cars. I’ve ordered two.

Ionut, do you still have the old E38 L7 driving videos?
Ryan, you are not kidding. Since I got my e39 in 2011 I too have been searching for decent Bluetooth. I've been fortunate to have an Intravee to do music, but... Bluetooth! I can't wait to get a hold of one!
Just ordered mine the other day. They ship in July. Can't frikken wait!!!

Lots of cars didn't come with the changer but still came with the pre-wiring. Have you checked the area behind the trunk carpeting for it? :)
@@tass2001 Unfortunately it looks like European E46s didn't come pre-wired at all :(. I'm in the market for an E39 anyway so I'll make sure it has the CD changer.
This is legit. This seems much better than the Grom that I have
What do you find wrong with the Grom?
Chances are that I plan on implementing it at some point :P
I would like to note that the "GROM disappearing" is not their fault.
If I am not mistaken, one touch turn blinkers are available by default.
Certainly not on the E38/E39s, but possibly on the latest E83 X3s with the LCM IV, if configured for it.
Power folding mirrors is a feature in the works, per my understanding. Water temp is already supported.
This is great! Are any of the upgrades going to include DAB? Thanks
Retrofitting DAB is simply not an option, I'm afraid :(
Just ordered one, having mentioned it on our Whatsapp group there seem to be a fair UK interest too....
I cried when you said it's not compatible with E60. 😭 E60 never gets love unless it's an n54
Yeah it really doesn’t, it’s very sad. It’s a great car that was really ahead of its time in terms of design
PiBus is really good, but I really hate the ELK/XBMC interface, especially on a headunit :(
One question will my navigation still work ?
Yes, just as before!
Did I hear correctly that it will work with an E39 with a basic radio/cd changer (with stereo cassette!)?
If you're talking about the MID-based units, which have a row of buttons on the bottom labeled "-"
Then yes :)
-Ted
Looks very cool. How does the Menu etc for things like one touch turn signals and otuerbsetting work when Connected to a car with MID rather than a screen?
Hi -- here's a video that shows it working with the MID :) th-cam.com/video/_ei-4o9-qeA/w-d-xo.html

Next orders will be March or April, stay tuned to the Bluebus website!
Is the splitscreen functionality still available with this?
Yes it is
Does it support pre fl E39 equipped with MID DSP system?
Yes :)
Is there a solution for not losing CD player functionality?
God bless you guys. Fingers crossed for E90 and E60 support in the future!
Thank you! I don't ever plan on this because the E90 uses the MOST bus which is way different than old IBus cars :/
Will these be able to be updated after purchase when new features arrive? If so, how would that happen?
Yes they will :)
There is a USB (micro B) port on the board that will accept firmware updates.
Does the screen have to work to be able to set up/use this? I have a gen 4 head unit on my e46 with a dead screen.
GROM is in trouble. Once I get my broken DSP Amp back from repair, I'm going for this.
its nice, but bit to expensive for me.....
going for android for that price would be better :D but no oem look
Is there any phone integration beyond calls using the speakers and in-car mic? Do you still need your phone on a mount to make and receive calls?
You can answer/reject calls from the nav screen/radio as well.

Yes, they would interfere if you configured both to run, but If you simply disable OT Blinkers (set it to 1), then it won't interfere at all :)
when You are going to have it in stock?
I recommend buying from here: tinyurl.com/2tvv3wcu

@@E39Source The SIM slot is somewhere in the left of the trunk above where the CD changer is, I think with the cordless phones there's also a slot for a sim card in the phone or at least somewhere in the cabin?

Would appreciate a video of the bluebus on business radio but I imagine I'll buy one sooner or later anyway.
@@rsporsche That sounds like it's for the OEM BMW phone from 20 years ago. The BlueBus, and most aftermarket products, don't make use of any of that antiquated tech. My redundant question: will it work with my 1998 540ia with standard radio with cassette in the upper dash, analog cellular telephone, and six disc CD player in the trunk?
Just want to make sure it will adapt to my 540ia!!!
Last seven of my VIN if that helps: BW58861.
At my age you learn to ask twice or three times, then buy once!
Thanks in advance for your help and assistance!
Yes sir, it will plug in at the CD changer.
You have package S694A on your build list, which is the 6 CD Changer prep ;)
Also, I'm posting the link to a few BMW fan sites on FB.
Great ! Will it work on a E 53 2001 with profNavi16:9?
Yes
I'll ask him if he remembers how he did it, never know if that knowledge could be useful. Either way, this device is exciting!!!
@@carrier7676 - That's awesome! Sounds like he might have had something emulating the TV module to feed a video signal into the Navi. The "PiBus" does this, but I don't know about Album art specifically :)
tass2001 I’ll work to figure out what he actually did and get back to you guys. I don’t even have this item and I already love it! Like I said, the album cover would be the icing on the cake but I know that there are limitations with this hardware. So I’ll still love my “cake” with no “icing”, lmao!
Hello ! Question ? My old e39 with the 6cd player have 2 cables,
My new e39 y have the dsp "professionnal" (bw85500) its needs 3 connectors ,without the third its plays but no sound,
Those bluetooth adapters y find them on Amazon 35€ , but... its have only 2 connectors, there is no dsp connector on it , will it work ?
All factory E39 CD changers will have the small 3-pin cable which is for IBUS connectivity and power. Then you should have one of the following audio cables: 6-pin square cable is analog audio. The single pin round coaxial connector (looks like an antenna) is the superior digital DSP cable. The BlueBus is compatible with both.
@@E39Source thanks !!
Hello
I don’t have that 6pin connector on my e39m5 2000. I removed the CD only thing was connected is that 3pin connector. Any idea?
Hi Chris,
I would recommend buying a headliner 'console' panel that has a mic cut-out in it already, so you can keep your factory one perfect somewhere safe. A panel from the US market will clip right in and give you the proper cut-out. You will need to wire the mic through the headliner, however, if you aren't pre-wired.
@@tass2001 Ted - Great job on creating this product! I am super excited. I ordered 3 for my E46 and two E39s. I am curious which p/n you used for the BMW microphone. It looks like it should be p/n 84316938762 for all three of my cars. How do you confirm the wiring is there based on VIN? Mine are GF43975 (E39), CK38168 (E39), PL44250 (E46). I believe all three have both CD Changer and Cell Phone preparation.
@@karlschneider1675 - Thanks, Karl! All of your cars do have the telephone pre-wiring -- I use mdecoder.com to look up the packages your car was spec'd with. I do NOT recommend the microphone ending in 762 as it is has too high a gain and sometimes causes echos for the third party on the call (though this is inconsistent from car to car). I recommend 84318380338.

ryan, can you turn off the nav moniter while using bluetooth? or does bluebus force the screen to stay on..?
It can be turned off using the "Monitor Off" feature on the main screen. Turning off the radio turns off the BlueBus, though.
Sorry, I hope this isn't a stupid question. I have stock factory radio/nav/dsp/aux in my '03. Will this be able to plug and play as is or must I buy other software to be installed first before a bluebus? Thank you so much.

Should work in E36 as well. Late gen E36 headunits also have ibus.
Yes, but you have to configure a couple options in the BlueBus for this to work as the E36 doesn't have a "full" I-Bus network of modules and the ignition status is never broadcast.
@@tass2001 If it can be configured it shouldn't be a problem.
@@idonjohnson6999 - Yeah. Honestly I wish I knew more about the CD43 and E36 electronics in general so I could market the BlueBus to those guys, lol.
@@tass2001 shouldn't the combo of Bluebus and CD43 (or BE2455) be enough. Don't see why it would need 'full' ibus. Other mp3/aux/USB interfaces all work just fine.
@@donkremer6019 I developed the BlueBus so it would act like a factory module. Part of this means not connecting to the users phone until the ignition is cycled on. For this, I need the ignition status message. I do have a configuration option that makes the BlueBus assume the ignition is always on, and that’s how you can get it to work on an E34/E36.
Is this mainly for communication with your phone or does it also update/upgrade maps for the navigation system? As I understand the maps stopped in 2015, therefore I'm wondering if this updates those.
This is just for the phone/media/bluetooth. Map data will need to be read from the disks at the MKx computer in the trunk.
@@E39Source Gotcha! I think I'll still get one. Are you aware of any map updates to the MK4 computer past 2015 though?

Is there anyway to buy it in Europe?
You might ask the BlueBus developer, Ted, by emailing him at support@bluebus.dev.

It does not, just wax
@@E39Source Looks great, then with the ceramic coating would look even better :)
Ncxus v3 Pro does same thing with aptx hd format. It works with every phone. And it costs only 80$ with delivery
@@tass2001 Alright, thanks for the information! I will look into it!
@@antonvandermerwe9852 - the BlueBus is fitted with the OEM connectors :)
Does this work with stock head units with DSP?
Yes
My e85 Z4 doesn’t have the cd changer. Do I have to pay bmw to unlock/enable the cd changer wiring for this to work?
No, you just need to find the wires to use with the BlueBus. You should be pre-wired for the CD changer.
Sounds good. Thanks for getting back to me

Ryan, what are your thoughts on the Dynavin N7 - E39A - Pro? Overkill? Blasphemous aftermarket mod? Too expensive?
Blasphemous aftermarket mod.
Herecy!
Who/Where can I order the SES Connector (Red Cable) from?
That's still in the works. If you order a unit, I'll email you in the next few weeks about getting a cable. If you just want the jumper for your own use, I can give you the part number for the male side of the connector :)
Will you ship to Poland?
