Even back in the 1970s there were songs where one had to listen to a few bars to distinguish one from another. I always thought "Mr. Big Stuff" and "The Cleanup Woman" sounded quite similar. At least back then there was no gimmicky auto-tune, which really makes flawed singing sound like that of those with more virtuous voices and better senses of pitch.

I feel like a lot of these are just similar due to their chord/beat progressions, while others are just sampled from older songs. Either way there isn't necessarily something dodgy and evil going on between these similarities. Not everything is ever going to sound 100% unique.

it's not that songs are "copying" one another, but that there are basic tempos/rhythms/melodies that compose pretty much all songs in the pop genre. plus if you look at the music engineers behind many of these songs you'll see the same names cropping up over and over. it's not a coincidence, and if you ever hear someone expressing that "all pop music sounds the same" then this is usually what they're getting at
At the end of the fifth harmony song it says in parentheses “flex” because it’s sampling the original song “flex” this is done VERY OFTEN in ALL genres of music it’s SAMPLING. It gets even trippier when u notice producers like 40 and Kanye who sample songs and turn them into brand new songs with the same/ or different energy!
