    Just bought my first Dahon classic III today, 10/14/19. Found a used, but in very good condition bike at a Brownsville Tx. pawn shop. For $95. I’m a truck driver, and I was looking for something like this. I was even thinking of getting a scooter or something. I love my dahon and as we speak, it’s under my bed, in my semi. I believe this is the perfect bike for truck drivers. For when they need to go somewhere, where they can’t drive. Whether it’s because the truck is too big, or they can’t move their truck because of Electronic logging won’t allow them to move their truck another inch.

      I bought for $95, in LA West Covina. After that I return to my country, I was sell it for $50 to a very dear friend. I wasn't have no money to carry with me at the plane. Some nights I cry for my precious.

    Wow, the father of folding bikes Dr. David Hon! I bet over the 30 years there has been a significant amount of gas saved world wide and will be compounded as we go into the future.

    I was looking for scrap metal & came across one of these that someone threw out for bulk pick up. It’s a 1988 stainless steel 3 speed. Never heard of them before & I guess I’m going to keep it & restore it.

    OMG. I found one of these... A 1988 foldaway cruiser for 25 bucks. Hell yes I bought it. Put a couple new tires on it. I'm in it for 65$. Looks like I've got a cool little gem on my hands.

    Years ago I picked up an inexpensive Dahon at I believe a Target store in California. It was fine for around the neighborhood but not enough gear to get good speed. So modified it for more gear inches. I used to commute over 9 miles one way with it in Phoenix, AZ. It is very nice to know more about Dahon and to see that they make more refined and lighter weight bikes today.

    • @timmmahhhh
      @timmmahhhh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow I'm floored to hear that Dahon was once available at Target. My wife and I have had 26-in models for 12 years now and The past couple of days we've looked for models for our daughters. It doesn't look like the Han makes 26-in models anymore, just one 24-in and the rest 20-in. I'm in the Chicago area and the suburban's bike store that used to carry them no longer does and I found only one bike chain in the city of Chicago with three stores that has them.

    About 15 years I looked into whether folding bikes were a thing. I just moved to the Chicago area from Northwest Indiana and figured somebody had to design something for commuter trains. I'm surprised they haven't been around longer. I first bought a Bazooka bike on eBay which lasted me a few years but I didn't realize that I exceeded the weight class for it and the frame eventually broke. I replaced it with a Dahon Jack in 2009 and I still have it and love it. I bought my wife an Espresso a year later, also a 26-in model. Careless me I did not see that the handlebars were not removable but it's still a good compact bike and it's very ideal in that it is a 24 speed, whereas my jack is a 7 speed. I don't miss the other speeds and I think I remember at the time a 21 speed model would have been $100 more. I wish you still made 26-in 700cm models as it seems like the largest one you make now is 24 in with most being 20 in. I'm really surprised these haven't caught on more. We are looking at getting Mariners for our daughters.

      Hi, thanks so much for your feedback! We are so glad you have been enjoying our bikes over the years! We do have models with larger wheels such as the GB-2 (27.5'') and if you look on our global website we do have older models with 26" wheels dahon.com/bikes-category/bike-archive/?filters=bike-wheel-size[435], however availability of DAHON models does depend on regional distribution so it's best to either check with your local DAHON dealer (you can find their contact details here: usa.dahon.com/pages/store-locator) or online on our US website here: usa.dahon.com/collections/bikes.

    Love the mini-doco. I have owned a Dahon for the past 7 years. My wife owns a Bike Friday. Dahon has it all over BF when it comes to packing it up in a car or trying to carry it folded up stairs. My only question is where can I get my next Dahon in Australia?

    • @timmmahhhh
      @timmmahhhh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I've considered Bike Friday as it looked like it was very customized to the user. I live in the Chicago area and I found just one store that carries Dahon bikes now. 13 years ago I could find about five or six stores, I've only about half who will order it for you but don't have any in stock. Good luck finding one in Australia My guess is you'll have to order it online direct from the company. When I asked the other dealers what sort of lead time it would be to order a Dahon They told me they had no idea and that some bikes have taken several months to arrive.

      Their website gives you the specifications on frame types. The majority are aluminum but they do have a couple of steel but I don't think stainless. I look at that because I'm a heavier writer and I exceed the weight limit for aluminum.
