Hello, Yes these are fully waterproof buoyant units. It has a waterproof rating of 16.40 ft (5m) @ 1 hr., 33 ft (10m) @ 10 min so in the event of having to use the unit, if you're on the surface of the water or within a life raft it will function perfectly well.
Why would you want to deactivate once you send the distress signal?
