I have a theory, she probably has dementia. There are studies that people with dementia tend to forget recent happenings earlier than older ones. And since she's reverting to her really old memories then she's probably near the end stages of dementia and he's still there to take care of her. It's such a sad and sweet scenario now that I think that it's rare to actually see couples literally grow old together and yet there they are, still taking care of each other.
Edit: notice how the time in the beginning starts from a more recent date to an older one? Yeah. That's it.

CRYING bc this comment is so true! I've worked as a care taker in both a senior living/rehabilitation facility and senior retirement homes. I've had my fair share of working with those who have dementia and they would sometimes revert to their childhood, adolescent or young adult years as well as the behaviors appropriate to those ages. In the MV I don't think she's reminiscing but more of like she has forgotten her real age, believes she is still and living young while her hubby is dancing and doing things she loves to make her happy (wanting to fix his collar, asking for hugs, dancing).
A dead giveaway she has dementia/alzheimer's is when the guy is worried looking for her but finds her sleeping on chairs in a public setting - most people who have this disease often have confusions in time and place, wander off and get lost and are then found in random settings. The director of this MV did their homework on it and portrayed it well. The fact that she and her hubby remember how to waltz and slow dance despite her losing her explicit memories shows that her implicit/procedural automatic memory is still intact... 😭😭😭

I found this song when I was pregnant with my first son, when I was giving birth I saw my husband crying over my struggle and the birth of our son, when I finished giving birth and recovered I watched TV in my hospital room. This song played when my husband held our son for the first time. At that time I leaned on the bed and cried seeing that moment. It's been 1 year since my son has grown and my husband's love is increasing day by day. Every time I hear this song I shed tears because I am happy, humbled and grateful.

Seeing the comments about how the lady has a dementia makes sense but after watching it for how many times, I think the lover (man) died at their younger years. Notice at the end scene where the lady is at the present time and she is old while the lover is still at his younger self means he died at that age especially the last line says "I stay where your calendar stopped" explains that the lady sees their past and possible future of them growing old together if only the lover did not die. That is why there are scenes that shows their young and old selves. Also, at the beginning where the guy heard whatever the doctor's diagnosis made him look anxious for the first half of the video while staring fondly at his lover. Maybe because he fears that he might not be able to live longer and leave his lover. This song is amazing lee hi, and the music video was made beautifully and executed well by lee je hoon and won jin a, by far my fave song this year

@@iz_cool so it starts with a girl dancing .....so from what I understood from this video's story is that the boy gets to know his girlfriend's situation and is sad about that but the girl still has some cheerfulness in her and she has a dream(?) for dancing with the male character so she is practicing and she also writes something in her nb and her boyfriend (?) reads that and starts planning to have a dance with her and after some time they do dance ...the story also portrays how they both stayed together just like they did in their 20s or 30s and also have the same habit of correcting the male's collar and their affection stays the same even after he found out about the girl's condition and still stayed with her ....

I'm 22 and I've never had someone loving me (romantically) in my life. That's why it glimpses them young and old yet they act the same as if they have fallen in love all over again. "My only love," since their love for each other has never changed.
This truly is a legendary song with a legendary music video. Thankful to An Shin Ae for writing such a beautiful song for Lee Hi, to my lovely Lee Hi for singing it so beautifully and memorably, to Lee Je Hoon & Won Jin Ah for acting in this masterpiece and Director Hobin for filming an MV that’s so good everyone asks if it’s a drama or a movie.
Love this song & the story telling of the MV! Brought me to tears because of how it touched my heart!
It appears the female character has dementia & is currently hospitalized for how progressive her cognitive functioning is (i.e. forgetfulness, wandering around, memory loss), while her loving husband continues to visit her there as often as he can. We are seeing the woman's perspective in this MV & I believe her mind thinks she's back in her 20s, hence why we are seeing the younger couple throughout the video. The core memory she has for this period in her life is the dance she is doing with her husband & that is why she's always practicing those steps. The husband sees her little notebook which marks that special day for their dance & practices the steps as well to make her happy and have her "dreams come true" like the song reflects.
I think at @5:15 where you see the subtle change in the husband's expression is where I personally wanted to bawl my eyes out. I think the actor did a great job portraying so many emotions in just one subtle glance. What touches my heart the most is seeing that undying love the man has for his wife, and although there will be pain felt in knowing your loved one is slowly losing their memories, he wants to "stay where her calendar stopped" and that is beautiful!

@@aliensprstr9595 i beg to disagree. maybe what you call "flopping" is just the mere fact that aomg cannot compare with yg's marketing in terms of song releases. but lee hi has been very vocal about being happy in terms of singing, performing, and just putting music out in the world. yg is great in terms of artist percentage in events, overseas concerts, and physical albums. it's also great in marketing as they are part of the the OG big 3 so they can easily bring music to mainstream media & make it boom. BUT, yg has been notorious in how they handle artists & the comebacks are always dragged out for long. in aomg, our hayi is able to sing and perform as much as she wants. she's been collaborating with other aomg artists since last yr. aomg might need to up their marketing game but as long as hayi is happy and code kunst is there to support her, we're here to back her up as always ♡♡♡

So many comments left here said that tears are coming out of nowhere. To think of it, isn't that how love is supposed to be? It is supposed to make us feel soft at heart and to feel the contentment yet heartbreaking. Honestly, I wasn’t that impressed when I first listen to this song but today, somehow I decided to give it another try and somehow that lalala part just got me this time. It’s so beautiful. I do actually fantasize myself dancing with my future someone while listening to that part. This is the most beautiful and painful piece ever! Both the music video and the song carry so much love and pain at the same time, I am a crying mess!
For those who might be interested to know the concept of the music video, here's my interpretation of the story:
Hold on to some tissues, you might need them.
Right at the opening of the MV we see the dates going from "23.09.2021" to "23.09.1996", which is the time frame in which all the events happen in the music video.
Its the story of a lady who is suffering from a chronic brain disorder which has made her incapable of recalling any memory of the previous day, from 23rd Sept 1996 onwards. For 25 years, every day her husband/lover helps her recreate the 23rd of Sept., which is the day of their ball dance party and the doctor's appointment. We can see @1:55 where she wakes up and looks at the calendar. The calendar has 23rd Sept marked on it and has no year on it. So she wakes up to the same date, every day, for 25 years. They continue to live the same day, create the same memories, every day as if its the 23rd Sept.
From what I understood, this is the memories of their day:
- The husband works from his desk at home
- They visit the doctor, and then go for her treatment. (@4:39 she is on the hospital bed receiving some treatment)
- They enjoy nature and each other's company while having ice cream together
- They go rowing in the river
- They practice the dance moves for ball party, whenevr they have time
- They get ready for the ball dance party
- They attend the ball and dance their hearts out.
The husband/lover has been recreating the happiest day of her life, for 25 years. This is the most precious lovestory ever. 🥺
The most beautiful yet painful part is that she knows she is ill, because she knows that she has a doctor's appointment on the 23rd, but she doesn't truly understand the severity of her illness as she wakes up the next day forgetting about it. For 25 years, she lives knowing something's wrong with her, but doesn't have the ability to truly understand the severity. Yet she still stays hopeful and continues to live her life to the fullest even when she has grown old.
They both stay strong throughout and never let each other down. Always stay hopeful, protecting each other and never let anyone feel any pain or pressure. Even after going through so much their eyes shine bright when seeing each other and their smiles never faded.
At the end Lee Hi leaves us with the message "I stay where your calendar stopped." (@5:23)
One thing that I didn't really understand well is her diary. Did she write on it everyday? Did she write the 23rd Sept entry on the previous day? I didn't see her writing anything on the diary, only looking at and reading the diary, which probably means the last date on the diary is 23rd Sept 1996 which she had already written on the 22nd Sept 1996. And becasue on 23rd she didn't write any entry for the 24th, she probably never realized that its not 23rd Sept.
Or maybe it was her husband/lover who in order to protect her from the shock of knowing about the severity of her brain condition, read the diary (@2:33) on 23rd Sept 1996 and tried to re-create all that she wrote about doing on that very day, and continued to re-create the same day, every day for 25 years. 🥺He didn't want her to feel overwhelmed or be in pain of realizing she has lost precious memories.
Wah this one made more sense than her having dementia :(
i hope the husband tried to explain to her about her ill at least one of the days throughout the 25 years because if not then he's a bit selfish. or maybe he dont need to take care of her and keep her all to himself, i mean truth hurts but at least dont hide anything from your loved ones. then again, we'll never know their situation unless we're in their shoes

The production and story line of the MV was perfect for the message of this song! Producers hit a home run on the MV.

When I started college I fell in love, the first day, with a girl I saw. Turns out she was a classmate. And turns out she was friend of one of my friends. In order to make small talk with her I started listening to kpop, she likes it. We slowly grew closer, I invited her out a few times and we had great times, singing in the car, I could spend years just driving listening to her voice... She then got a boyfriend, I was destroyed. But I acted like nothing, by this time I haven't told her my feelings for her. A few months pass by and this guy, who was a friend of mine cheated on her and she found out on her birthday. I was there for her, didn't want to take advantage of her so I decided to be what she needed at the moment: a friend. A few more months pass by and I was decided to confess and like a bucket of cold water I found out she just got a new boyfriend. Again, said nothing. But I couldn't stay to her side like I felt nothing. I had to take a semester again so we got distanced and bearly talked to each other. After like a year of literally 0% contact, I ran into each other in the hallway and just like the old times we start talking about how we've been doing and my feelings just popped from the box I put them in just to be destroyed by her boyfriend coming by. That day I decided to confess. I know, lame af and selfish but it's been 5 years, I've liked her since March 7th, 2020, I had to end this somehow. I wrote a whole essay telling her everything. Again, lame af, but I felt like if I was gonna confess I should tell the whole stort. She responded like an angel sent from heaven. She told me she always felt sad we distanced but she understood, she accepted my feelings and thanked me for them. Haven't seen her since that day. This song... it feels like someone is squeezing my heart. I close my eyes and can hear her singing in my car while I drive at night. I'm happy she is happy but what hurts me the most is I know very well I'll never develop this kind of feeling for anyone else. I've tried, but it had to be her. I'd rather just be alone instead of trying to lie to myself. Thank you for reading everything lol
