    I think it's amazing how he explains the flatground ollie in a language we all understand. "A magical way to elevate your skateboard... conquer obstacles." With his flawless word choice, he captured and explained the "magic" that was the humble beginnings of most skaters. Learning new and advanced tricks still offers a generous portion of that magic, but none can deny that strange and unique excitement we all felt when our ollies first began to click in our heads and fall into place. Well done Jonny.

    @0:24 I would hate to correct you Jonny, my brother from another mother!
    But I am from the Los Angeles area, and me and my Broz were popping ollies back in 79 all day long. Yes our boards are big and bulky and massively heavy. We had nose bone, tailbone, side ribs and even a truck guards for skates. I ollied off my first set of stairs, 7 set, in November of 1979 on my "Skull & Sword" The Rodriguez deck was the first pro signature deck graphic produced by Powell-Peralta. The graphic was conceived by Ray and Illustrated by V.C. Johnson with art direction from George Powell in 1979.
    Initially released in two distinctly different shapes; a 10" x 30" "Widetail" version and a 10" x 28.5" "Snub Nose,” it came in "Brite-Lite" Dayglo yellow, orange, purple and green. In years to follow, it was made in various different colors and a Powell-Peralta logo was added. In 1983 Ray's signature was removed and replaced with a Powell-Peralta script logo. The graphic was also used for T-shirts and stickers.

      william WilliamF so you were alive in 1970, your speaking from first-hand knowledge? Hummm??? No disrespect but, not everybody is narcissistic like you, not everybody wants to film themselves 24/7.
      I guarantee you there were hundreds of people that did 8 & 9 stairs before 1980 all throughout America let alone Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland Oregon, Philadelphia, Tampa, I bet you half of them didn’t even Ollie off the stairs, but bombed them at FULL SPEED AHEAD. My dad built me a quarter pipe in 1978 that was about 3 feet tall “YES we have pictures” I guess my father was trying to be nostalgic. We would rock that $hit all day long. PERIOD
      Us all dogs are the real pioneers of the sport, most of us did it not for fame or glory, but because we love to push the envelope.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always thought of the Ollie North and Ollie one foot as two seperate tricks. Main difference being in the technique. On an Ollie North you'd slide your foot all the way up and off the nose whereas on an Ollie one foot you'd stick your front foot off your board right after popping, and level it out with your back leg, similar to how you would for a No Comply.

    Here’s a rant from a Boomer!
    To be accurate, Back in 1977 in Los Angeles, me and my friends would ollie down a six stares at our local school! By 1980 with the new Peralta boards, we were all Ollieing on the park benches and board sliding on them!
    I personally have been skating since 1974, it truly pisses me off when young skaters like Jonny and companies like the X games contribute these tricks to people like Rodney Mullen and Tony Hawk, it takes a gargantuan shit on the thousands of OG skaters that paved the way for people like Jonny and others to have a career in skateboarding to this very day. We are the one’s a paved the way for modern skaters not, because we get paid for it, but because we love to skate!
    ALAN GALFAND & RODNEY MULLEN Might have been the first to be featured in a video doing an Ollie, but by no means they were the first ones to do an Ollie!

      Peter Pacciani oh wow, you called me old, how fucking original!
      Then again, I bet you haven’t had an original thought in your entire short life and only regurgitate other peoples trendy talking points.
      But obviously that happens more often than not when special snowflakes like you who are from a participation trophy era get triggered over the slightest little thing. I think you need to turn your oppression Olympics card in because you’re not using it right. 😂

    I’ve also seen “monkey grab” ollies where the skater pinches the sides of the deck (as opposed to the nose and tail) with their feet and jumps that way. Pat Gallaher has done them in some parts, though I can’t remember which ones. It’s like an old school kickflip but without flipping your board

    • @highanglelarry
      @highanglelarry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deck, trampoline. Dont jump, when you are skating though, just think about bringing you knees up to your waist. The trampoline thing is to get you use to the board sticking to your feet, have fun.

    • @highanglelarry
      @highanglelarry 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To clarify you actually gain little to no height when you ollie or whatever. It appears that way because of the crouched position to upright to crouched. Watch people's ollies and imagine where their head would be at the height of the 'jump' if the skater was standing on the ground.

    Landing crossfoot is the perfect position for a body varial. To me it seems like reversing the flow of the motion not to use the crossed feet to rotate your body - it's such a basic dance move: jump - crossfoot, rotate

    I'm 32 years old, been into skateboarding since I was probably 8 and just now learned that the China Nollie isn't the regular Nollie. I've never even seen his version of a regular Nollie.....I've always seen the China Nollie referred to as the "plain and simple" Nollie.....and i'm pretty sure that's the one used in every skateboarding video game, as well.

      Proprioception is the best way to prevent the ankle from twisting. The problem of using this protection is that your ankle muscles are not working properly and when you remove it the ankle gonna be so week that it can twist a lot more...
