Might try an oscillating tool to cut those tabs off. These are really nice baskets! Thanks for showing the full construction, start to finish!

Looks nice. I think I would have pained the top tips of the black strips. Also, why don’t you like having the handles on. Thanks

My wife did suggest painting the tops,
As far as the handle, my very first basket i made was with a handle, I had trouble with it, and it didn't turn out very good.so I just started making them without the handle.

Use a 18 tpi hacksaw blade. I think it will work better. If that don't work try 32 tpi.
