it's not you, it's a known thing that locals hate when people call it san fran or frisco. I've seen surveys about it, articles about why it's wrong, etc.
San Francisco is just too long for people in the middle of a sentence, but they should just go with SF
I have actually always referred to it as Frisco or The City also SF
