I rarely comment on things but the bridge you walked across was used in John Carpenter's Escape from New York as the 69th Street Bridge towards the end of the movie! Most of the movie was actually filmed in Saint Louis! Love your videos Jacob! My wife and I hope to meet you somewhere one day!
The abandoned dock area was the old casino on The Admiral. Also go anywhere in 'The Hill' area for better Toasted Ravioli (T-ravs for short). Outside that one area, Syberg's is a local restaurant with several locations with some of the best T-ravs.
The old riverfront had a Robert e Lee riverboat. A real paddle wheel. It did excursions, evening dinner shows and weddings. Along with the admiral we had a very vibrant waterfront back then. Welcome to my home town.
it makes me so sad to see what Lacledes landing has become. As a younger man, I spent many a weekend going from bar to bar and restaurant to restaurant. As well as doing the cruises and the good old VP Fair on the arch grounds.
Thanks Jacob for this awesome adventure. I've been lucky enough to not have to evoke the playlist,as I haven't missed a day yet. I do hope you are having as much fun as you make it look. Thanks again Mr Carpetbagger for a journey well worth taking.
St. Louis used to have a beautiful riverfront. I remember visiting the McDonald’s and Burger King boats when I was little and the Admiral was always a neat sight, too. It’s sad that they’ve really let it go like this 😢
Jacob. You’ve made this adventure, so much fun, and I appreciate you doing this. I didn’t even know there was a highway for the Mississippi river following all the way along down and you made it really exciting with your stops of museums and everything else. Very educational and real fun. Thank you for sharing. It is really appreciated. You just take care and I’m enjoying this route with you on your journey.🫶🏻🤠
21:10 I went up the arch on Friday, May 17th and we had the projections. So, it seems like they just had an issue with them on Tuesday. Also, the Cardinals game was indeed suspended due to rain and resumed on Wednesday! -Andrew
First time commenting thanks for all your great videos in the hard times never know what ppl go through so just need a escape, something like that .. stay safe keep traveling
I grew up in Saint Louis. So glad you finally saw the sights!(some of them)! Good raviolli is the hill, even frozen ones from the local store are good, good raviolli is up to personal tastes of mixture. Many are different, but it is delicious all the same! Try as many as you can, you be the judge!❤
Welcome to St. Louis!! As a native I can tell you that true toasted ravioli (or t-ravs) are breaded then deep fried. The sauce can make all the difference also. I agree with the folks who say go to The Hill where you'll find wonderful Italian restaurants and some of the best t-ravs in the city. There is a bbq place in downtown (Salt & Smoke across from Busch Stadium) that makes brisket t-ravs which are so good!
Jacob. You were meant to do this!!! I mean traveling and showing the world❤ you are so good at what you do!! I always enjoy your videos. And you and Jen are good together too😊😊😊
The abandoned river front pavilion you seen was where the Admiral (built 1907) used to sit. As a kid it was a cruise ship that had music, dinner and live music. Then it left for the south for a while then made its way back to St. Louis as a Casino. Then it became too old for repairs and it was destroyed.
This was a fun video. I went to St. Louis with my family when I was younger. I didn't know about the river cruise. I'd like to go back and do that someday. I was surprised to see the top of the arch divided into two sections. When I was there years ago, you could go up and down either side and walk all the way across the top.
I suspect it’s an egress issue. A barrier at the top allows them to control the maximum number of occupants that can be on each side of the viewing area at any given time. This would prevent a scenario where, in an emergency everyone might try running to the stairs on one side of the structure, potentially exceeding the number of people the stair can accommodate.
With Jenn would be amazing too.... I doubt I will ever get to do Route 66 or the Great River trail either. .. my hubby and I are getting up there in ages and our bodies are falling apart now...we loved to drive places like Pugeon Forge and Florida plus all over our home state of Michigan including upper Peninsula which looks just like Kentucky...gorgeous..and a very long way up to the top too ...hoping we can be back on the rod this summer so we can visit my grandparents and dad's grave up near Mackinac City ..❤but would love to see Jenn do Route 66 with Jacob. He would love to show her all the things he has seen before
@@denisedarnell1641 I'm sorry to hear about your and your hubby's health, Denise. I really hope you get to experience Route 66 by yourself as well. It's an amazing adventure!
Not sure if youll see this but that Monument to Robert E Lee is actually the same Lee from the Civil War. He was an Engineer before he was in the military
it the same Robert E Lee he was part of what is now known as the army engineer corps it is a monument to his service as a united states army engineer. because the river was starting to w ash the western bank or the river giving the harbor trouble and threaten parts of the city at the time.
The abandoned pavilion at 28:50 used to be the entrance of the "Admiral" boat which hosted the President Casino inside. It was a floating casino and hotel. Sadly the boat was completely scrapped and the whole area is now abandoned.
Mississippi Nights, one of the best music venues ever, used to be on the landing. Until the casino came in and took over and made it a parking lot. Look up the history on it if you aren’t familiar. 😢
The abandoned pavilion where the homeless were living, formerly was the entrance to The President’s Casino on the Admiral riverboat. It closed years ago. It couldn’t compete with the much larger casino next door.
By what I remember the Casino on the Admiral is the same one that is now online, just changed owners and name over time. When casinos were legalized in MO they had to be on the River. They later changed that law requiring it to be on a river so they moved it from the Admiral to where it is today.
There are Riverboat cruises overnight you can take down the Mississippi River. They are not cheap, but they are similar to cruise ships, except smaller. They cost over $1,000 to book a room on the riverboat.
Yes, they are along with the control room and living space for the operator. Now a days their operation is controlled remotely and very rarely does city water let anyone inside.
Lacledes Landing has been changing a lot over the last several years. It used to be a popular nighlife spot and place to go before Rams games. Im interested to see what it will be like in the next couple years.
When I went to YMCA summer camp in the 70s we would go somewhere in St Louis every week. Every year we went on a riverboat ride on the Admiral riverboat. They also had a riverboat McDonald's for years down there. I'm in southeast Missouri now. Figured you'd be by here on this trip. Almost went to Lambert's today to see if you were there. Going back to work tomorrow. Safe travels.
I wondered about that because it didn't look anywhere near beefy enough to be driving the boat at the speed it was moving. Also, I don't think you need to be especially athletic to kayak/canoe/raft DOWN a river; if you want to go UPSTREAM that would be an entirely different story.
Bagger, you have christen this year as 'The year of the pressed penny. May I also suggest that this summer be declared as "The summer of the Riverboat"....

Kudos to your TH-cam Channel, Jacob! 👍👍👍👍 I know an individual who was in the high school marching bandand the school's marching band traveled to St. Louis and the band road up to the top of the arch.

I visited St. Louis twice. On my second trip I stayed in a hotel downtown and got to visit the arch. Those capsules are not for people who feel clostrophic but is defiantly worth the ride up to see the views from the top. I recommend the t-ravs at Anthonino’s. I’m a bad St Louisan and generally can’t stand the stuff, but I will eat it at Anthonino’s.
