Ben there was a species in Canada called the labrador falcon was this a local name or just another name for the gyr falcon or a separate species .

My understanding is that Labradors are just a regional name for certain Canadian gyrs. As I understand it, there are legitimate notable differences in head shape and brake shape from old world gyr populations that make distinct differences worth my of consideration as being a separate subspecies.
But to my knowledge, there are numerous gyr sun species that have been put forth and suggested, but none have been formally accepted. I could be wrong, But that’s my understanding of where it is currently at. I do know that regions have fairly distinct color Morris. A lot of the mainland old world gyrs are darker. Greenland has some of the whitest, etc. but gyrs apparently do have the ability to range far, and have proven to breed with distant populations ridiculously far from where they hatched. This is not always the case, but happens enough to diversify the gene pool and make distinct subspecies complicated.
