Years ago I inherited that Ruth Stout book. Filled with so much marvelous info. Thanks for all the great videos you guys put out. I always learn so much from them.
Cute Baby Ducks and Goose! I love their names and that mess box! The big birds are probably just going through the normal transition of having a new home and will start laying again soon. So cute how you trained your young birds to eat from your hand! Such wonderful gifts from Vickie! I LOVW them! Ruth Stout has shaped my life in many ways! My mother has followed her methods for decades! Where did you find that old book!? I love old books!
That drip tub in the duck brooder is GENIUS!!! Where were you with that WEEKS AGO! lol. This may very well encourage me to have ducklings in the house again... Otherwise, NO THANKS! BLEH! I am really diggin' your pantry too though! GOALS! Your garden looks awesome!! Ruth Stout ROCKS! Y'all got some fabulous gifts!
Look at that garden! Yay! Nice job(s), as usual, Jaime and Jeremy! Your new babies are precious. Those headlamps are essential gear around here. We like the ones that go over the head and don't fall down, or the hat clips. Oh man, my package, totally blushing, so happy to make you smile, overjoyed you drank GOAT MILK out of it! Gotta say, teared up a little :) Don't worry, Jeremy, I'll hook you and the girls up with something neat once the weather is cooler :) Love to you all from us all!!
Hens love hidey holes. If you feel like going to the trouble, you could make circular cutouts, one for each nest, in a long rectangle of plywood and then nail it up on the front of the boxes.
A little tip if the birds don't learn how to get water, try putting some red tape or red sharpie around the hole. The colour attracts curiosity, plus they're used to the old waterer being red. love the vids xx
LOL...Ducks do NOT like new things! And will always be messy...but so much personality and so fun to watch while they are running around being silly. Have fun!
I have summer projects and winter projects, indoors for rainy days and outdoors when the weather cooperates. My problem is I can get new projects done before the rain quits, the snow melts, the season changes, etc. I'm trapped in the land of 90%.
It was lovely to hear you yell chook chook chook. We say it here in Australia and often get ostracized for it. Good work doing a good job with them all.
+Anna at the Farm - cabinet shelves made of particle board can be replaced with 1/2" plywood for pretty cheap and will outlast the rest of the cabinet.
Missed seeing you guys! Love your videos! You've obviously been hard at work! Super great idea with your duck set up, yes - they are soooo messy! But their cuteness makes up for it ;) I love my ducks, they have so much personality. Your little gosling is adorable - I really look forward to watching him grow. Is that a Brinsea Eco Glow? I've been wanting to get one, sick of using those heat lamps. Thanks for the great video!

Interesting fix. Never saw the underside of a dryer before. However, I do have a question. For safety, why didn't you turn the breaker off to the dryer so you didn't have to worry about touching the wires? 😉
If you need a lil extra incentive to build a greenhouse, having one means you can do your drying on the clothesline year round. We put up a canopy over our clothesline so that we can dry year round, but during the winter sometimes our clothes just freeze into planks. lol
Like the original headlamp you have, never like the specialized battery but a better light source. With that said you can never have to many flash lights ;) The garden looks fantastic.
+Autumn Oaks Farm - I've been using the new smaller one for the last couple nights putting the chickens to bed and I'm pretty impressed. It's much lighter. The other one is great too though so I have to say I really have no preference and will grab whichever one is closest. The garden is thankfully starting to take. We'll see whether the soil amendments really worked this coming week after these 3 days of rain.
I just love your vlogs. They make me feel peaceful and happy for many reasons. You're so cute with your animals and each other. If I'm a good girl and eat my spinach and wash behind my ears, can I please be told the type of guitar that was in the opening shot? I loved its sound. My guitar was stolen and I can't imagine life without a guitar. Thanks! And good luck to the ducks and goose in figuring out the watering hole!! (I'm still reeling inwardly at your earthquake video Jaime and still pondering how you kept your head so well!! And Jeremy, will you please, next time, sing and play a whole song??)
+Sue Leigh - It's just a generic acoustic. Lyon I think. It's a cheese cutter for sure. Hurts the fingers. Unfortunately I don't sing. I don't really play all that much anymore either but I have a few things in mind for future videos. Maybe ease into something, we'll see. 😏
Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living Thanks for answering, and I hope you'll get to feeling you can do whatever it is you're toying with. I think there're a lot of loving, appreciative subs who would enjoy anything you do!
well I could comment on all your videos because both of you (and your daughters) really make it enjoyable but if I don't comment .... just know I'm always watching you .... lol .. and I mean that in a good way ...
It finally stopped raining and now they're almost back to normal laying. I fixed the nest boxes under their direct (and loud) supervision and they seem to approve. Guess we'll find out tomorrow. :-)
Haha! My hubby is looking too retire soon. I made mention of something I would like for him to do when he said, "You're going to put me to work aren't you?!" I replied, "Of course! Isn't that the whole idea?" He's great about the 'Honey Do's' but as he finishes one, I've probably already added two more. Just what's needed on a rainy day, right? Thanks for the videos Guildbrook. Love them! :o)
When they molt they stop laying. They will start laying again after they grow their new fathers. They will also stop laying if their routine or location changes and they feel stressed until they get comfortable with their new routine or location. They also don't lay during prolonged times of reduced light like in the winter and when they go broody. Also if you have no rooster, one hen will act like the rooster and not lay. Farmer's fun time- troubleshooting why your hens aren't laying.
+Gwenevere Kummer - I haven't perfected it yet. Just like the Michael Keaton movie Multiplicity, every time you make a copy of a copy it's never quite as good as the original. I like 🍕
No I normally do flip the breaker. I had worked on that dryer before though and know exactly where not to touch. I was nowhere near anything dangerous.
Is it Stupid of me to suggest that it would be a REALLY Good Idea to pull out the plug BEFORE you put your metal screwdriver or nut turner or whatever anywhere near the metal paddles, wires and 220volts or amps or other electrical unit of death that may be travelling around underneath the machine? I don't even shake the crumbs out of the toaster without pulling the plug out of the wall. 😁 The shelves did look great after you screwed the extra uprights in, do you think the 2 screws, even though they're long, are strong enough to support the extra weight of the shelves being back to front completely full, with the weight of the jars & the food inside? & was I alone in only seeing black spots in front of my eyes when you showed us how bright the torches were? 😅 It's amazing to me how quickly teeny, tiny birds 'grow' up, even the baby goat is looking bigger to me. All the rain will be great for the garden, (provided it doesn't wash it all away of course ) Really clever bit of editing Jeremy in the basement, It you'd've changed your head scarf, I would totally believed you had a twin helping out with the shelf project, I bet Jaime was delighted with you 💕.
aww what great mail and your duck and Mr ED...T-Rex gave me such a giggle.... TY for inspiration, since I've been depressed due to Hubby's bfs wife passing and family issues per the elder ones and my Mom being embarrassed of her poor homesteader life/per she just turned 71 July 2nd....my Dad, would have been 86 March 23rd this year, But the happier side is my father in-law is 87 and my mother in-law is 79 so they thought it would be a neat idea to do a bio of their lives, per your inspiration, my mom well, son is going to talk more to her...she told me to write a book, since I know her life story....soooooo we will see! excited to do my in-laws bio! 👍👍👍👍😉😉😉💚💚💚
not yet. still watching and learning. and waiting for the right piece of property to go on the market so i can live somewhere where chickens are allowed.

Not sure how I came up with that mess box idea but it does the trick. :-)
raining here too!!! neat to watch you get all that stuff done!! pantry shelves A-MAZING!!!!
It doesn't matter how long your videos are, I can watch them for hours ;). Love the ducks and Ed with the fabulous hair. They are so cute!
+Kara Bee - Aww thanks ❤️
You have such a beautiful relationship with your animals!!
I love watching you guys!
keep up the great work!!
We do love our critters :-)
Oh that freaked me out for a second when there were two of you! It's 2:30am and I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me...lol. 👍
+Nature's Cadence Farm - 😉
Nature's Cadence Farm Me too! But then reremembered, Jeremy is a photographer...
so he just used his talent and threw that in there!🤣
love watching all your updates as the homestead grows and changes. Keep up the great work! 👍
Thanks for watching Candace!
Your ducks are so cute and I love you goats👍☺
I have 4 of her books. Definitely a unique lady!

Hens love hidey holes. If you feel like going to the trouble, you could make circular cutouts, one for each nest, in a long rectangle of plywood and then nail it up on the front of the boxes.
+Rose Ramble - I added ledges today to hold the straw in better and they seem to really like that so far.
I really appreciate you are always fixing things! So many people just throw out and buy new!
+Carol Hennis - I know! Lol! I try to rebuild everything. Especially if it's old.
A little tip if the birds don't learn how to get water, try putting some red tape or red sharpie around the hole. The colour attracts curiosity, plus they're used to the old waterer being red. love the vids xx
They did end up figuring it out.
LOL...Ducks do NOT like new things! And will always be messy...but so much personality and so fun to watch while they are running around being silly. Have fun!
Boy we learned that real quick. I think they are settled in now and we're done changing things up on them... for now.
Wait for it. Always great to see a video from your family.
+pr4runner - Thanks for sitting through it lol!
That's an ingenious use of the clamps as jacks. I would have never thunk of that.
+Keith Brookshire - 😉
And, what's up with the out house in the pantry? :-)
+Keith Brookshire - Hahaha its a closet for the hot water heater! 😂
Mis you all!
LOL! "Ed has T-rex arms" 😂 Love this update.
Hahaha he does! He's so cute. :-)
You have a beautiful home.
Thank you!
Cool idea on the duck setup
Thanks. It works great but they're still super messy!
everything looks good around your homestead!
Yeah just really wet!
There's been a lot of cloudy rainy days in May here in Ontario this May
I have summer projects and winter projects, indoors for rainy days and outdoors when the weather cooperates. My problem is I can get new projects done before the rain quits, the snow melts, the season changes, etc. I'm trapped in the land of 90%.
I think that's a common challenge hahaha. You are not alone!
what a nifty duck* duck* goose* slop box....that's ingenious !! Cheese and Quakers you guys are funny lol.
+petsarenotmypeeve - ❤️
Great rainy day vid as I'm watching it on a rainy day here in nepa. Got a good chuckle with the JNullo holy crap bit! GFP, well you know :-)
+Locks Bog - Ha! No one else seemed to get the JNull reference so you win! 👍🏻
That mess box is genius.
It was lovely to hear you yell chook chook chook. We say it here in Australia and often get ostracized for it. Good work doing a good job with them all.
It's funny, I think we picked it up when visiting friends in Melbourne a few years ago hahaha!
I cant resist....duck duck .....Goose!!!! LOL
I'll have to use your shelf trick. 2 shelves are bowed in my kitchen (cheap cabinets)
+Anna at the Farm - cabinet shelves made of particle board can be replaced with 1/2" plywood for pretty cheap and will outlast the rest of the cabinet.
Thanks. My project for thurs.
Loved seeing your twin @ 11:34 ;-) lol.
Yeah that guy was just taking up space :-/
Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living Twins usually do. 😉 Hello from Raleigh. Hope y'all have a safe and happy Memorial Day! 🎉
That was cool!, twins

Thanks Yvette! Yes it's a Brinsea. It works great. Highly recommended.

Thanks!!!
11:31 Why didn't you just have that other dude hold the shelf instead of the clamps? Sheesh. Love your videos, even rainy days.
+Peoria Dude - That other dude was just in the way.
You should get a long hose from a rain barrel for that goat water. It makes a huge difference!
+Kirk Shadel - Yeah that is definitely on the list!
Cheese and Quackers!!! Adorable💙
I love that you shared your day. You guys are such an inspiration! Thanks Jeremy & Jamie!!
That was a long one. Thanks for watching Michele. 👍🏻

Rainy days over here too. What's up with those hens being stingey (is that how that's spelled??) with the eggs! 🍳
It finally stopped raining and now they're almost back to normal laying. I fixed the nest boxes under their direct (and loud) supervision and they seem to approve. Guess we'll find out tomorrow. :-)
@ the 24:45 mark, nice bucket with a flat side, whats it's brand?
+Nu B - I think Little Giant.
Would you like to come to Florida? My hubby is sitting on a "honey do" list about 5 years long.

True, but we rarely see temperatures below 40!
Such cute birdies :) You guys have an awesome channel!!! One question: do you (plan to ) have a system to collect rain water? Cheers from Brazil!
+Ana Paula Guerra - Possibly yes

Am I the only WUSS who unplugs the dryer when he works on it?!?!? I might have to turn in my man card if I keep watching your videos!

They are water birds, they want to play in it. Give them a bowl to play in!

You must have one of every tool, lol
+Jessica Karl - I do have a few. I use them all 😊

Every regular dude should know that lol! Oh, by the way, what did I win? Lol
Correct. And I guess you win our eternal appreciation and admiration? Lol
T-Rex arms . . . too funny.
You guys are so cute.
+I'm A Believer - 😊
I don't mind the long video's. What software are you using to put them together?
What will you plan to do with the ducks ? Eggs ? Poultry in the freezer?
+d borgeson - Eggs and making more ducks!
You MUST unplug and electrical device before doing any repair
He did! He just didn't show it in the video!
milk jug waterer. clean water, no spillage, everything stays dry.
+Cheryl Taylor - Works well for chicks. Not for ducks.
maybe put the little chickens in to teach them?
+Cheryl Taylor - lol do you have chickens?
not yet. still watching and learning. and waiting for the right piece of property to go on the market so i can live somewhere where chickens are allowed.
so the ducks won't learn from the chickens? i know the little ones learn from the older ones...
got unsubbed...geez...this is crazy...enjoyed learning how to fix the dryer, but think I'd turn the power off first...
wait till those ducks start bathing in the water...so fun
+Albany Mountain homestead - You SHOULD turn the breaker off first.
+Albany Mountain homestead - They just had their first sink adventure 😂
where did you get the box you keep the ducks in?
+Albany Mountain homestead - Whole Foods. It's a watermelon box they put out on the floor. Just ask them. Wegmans up near you may have them also?
Loved spending a rainy day with Guildbrook Farm.

Meh. Details lol.

haha at 11:40-ish :-)
As soon as I saw it, I came to see any comments!!!
so your place is going to the birds.
your support for the shelves works great on the front. are you going to do the same to the back side?
your flashlights are cool. makes me wonder if you are responsible for the light fluctuations around tabatha's star (www.space.news/2015-10-16-alien-megastructure-possibly-detected-around-nearby-star.html). HA!!!!! just kidding.
+michael adams - Yeah birds everywhere. I'm doing the back side of the shelves tomorrow when we clean and reorganize everything. 👽
